Hey, stop selling and be candid. It isn't as though supply will actually decrease. It's merely going to increase less quickly. And it already only increases at a glacial pace. The total number of BTC is _irrevocably_ scheduled to increase by only _10% over the next 116 years._ (!) So even the current rate is so minuscule it's basically undetectable.

That's true but it's always a function of supply and demand. There's currently a lot of demand because of the ETFs and the supply coming into the market has to come from somewhere. At the moment some of that supply is being filled directly from the miners. After the halving the miner supply will be cut in half, so it does have a real impact on the floating supply available on the market. The rest of the supply has to come from existing holders, many who don't want to sell it at the current price.

@@ExpensivePizza I suppose it's a matter of opinion up to some point, but I don't see how 450 coins a day will make a great difference when there are already 19.6m of the things, with close to 400k trading daily. Besides, the miners commonly hold the coins on their balance sheets anyway. (Or _hodl,_ if you prefer.😄) I have a bit of the stuff myself but I'm strict about not fooling myself in any way. The halving may very well lead to a nice rally, and I hope it does, but it will have everything to do with sentiment and speculation, and little to do with a suddenly restricted supply.

@@dixonpinfold2582 I think we can both agree the halving tends to fuel the rally even if it's just sentiment and speculation. Even if that's all there was too it I'd still make the case it matters a great deal. That said, I think some of your assumptions are a bit off. First of all, there are 400k transactions per day but that's not the same as 400k whole bitcoin trading hands. The average transaction size is only 192.46 USD which is about 0.002667 BTC per transaction. So if my calculations are correct those 400k transactions add up to about 1066 BTC changing hands. That's a significantly different story when you're comparing 1066 BTC trading against 450 BTC coming from the miners. The other thing to consider is that the 900 BTC produced daily from the miners currently represents about $64 million in USD terms. After the halving if the price stays the same it'll only be $32 million which makes a very significant difference to their ability to pay electricity bills. What do the miners do in this scenario? Well, their first point of call is to try and sell their BTC at a higher price. The market understands this dynamic and expects the price of newly mined BTC to rise. So it's no surprise buyers will pay the higher price, hence the rally.

Miners profitability will be tested at the halving, if you go to the on chain data analytics its showing that the other forked versions like BCH and BSV (im thinking due to the higher transaction thru put) is more profitable to mine than the higher priced BTC version prior to the halving, thats really weird. The flawed mechanics of BTC protocol should kick in and test the miners' economic viability post the halving event.

Bitcoin is trading like a hot commodity now, when instead it's supposed to be a viable, substitute currency. Currencies don't skyrocket relative to one another unless there's an economic disaster in that nation, rendering the currency worthless; that is not going to happen with the US dollar. I don't see how this skyrocketing price can sustain itself in the long term. Short answer is no. Dogecoin was sort of a copy of the idea but they have a much smaller market cap and ecosystem of miners and nodes. Bitcoin was not created by a company but by a non profit community. Big difference with pretty much all the alt coins. Satoshi never sold one bitcoin, he has 1 million. It's ethical, sound money to give people a chance to ignore the banks with their tantamount bailouts. Most alt coins are not robust and ponzi's to get rich quick, pump and dump. The biggest is Ethereum and it's founder already sold 25% of premined coins after they abandoned Proof of Work and Proof of Stake which basically hands all power over changes in the system to the whales and is therefore less robust than bitcoin since the big players are allowed to change the rules constantly.
