Is the general Idea, more or less, i can send my crypto back to my tangem 1.0, then reset factory defaults on my tangem 2.0, perform the procedure you described, send my crypto back to my tangem 2.0, then also if needed, with the seed phrase, put it on a new cold walltet type if needed? It's amazing how confusing the information is out there. Also is there a difference between importing a wallet vs recovering a wallet? Thank you for your time sir.

@@asdf9C Yes exactly thats how you can do it. You are just moving your crypto temporarily to 1.0. In regards to importing and restoring your seeed phrase, it is the same thing once you have a seed phrases it can be used to restore your wallet if your wallet gets lost, but your seed phrase can also be used in multiple wallets if you want to. Wherever your seed phrase goes all your crypto goes with it.

How do you know if seed phrase is not already in use? How to use seed phrase or child phrase to back up tangem ?

Any randomly generated seed phrase is so statistically improbable to be repeated that it’s pretty much virtually impossible that it’s been used. That being said, this does depend on randomness that’s as close to true randomness as possible, which means the random number generator in the card must work properly and not have any bias. Even using dice to produce entropy one should use dice with as little bias as possible, such as casino dice.

I have checked the entropy of my tangem cards, all of the seed phrases my tangem cards showed 128 bit I tested multiple seeds. all seed phrases show on the mnemonic reader as being 128.

@@Trevor-z7b128 bits is still safe from brute force attacks, so it’s a good thing. That being said, it’s a shame they are not 256 bits, because that is even more resistant to brute force attacks. What this means is that at some point in time brute force attacks may become feasible (we don’t know when), and it will be the 128 bit keys that will get broken before the 256 keys, though it’s not clear how quickly 256 keys will then become vulnerable afterward.

Would it be necessary to change the 'coin' to ETH or leave it as the default BTC. 2) If everything works off a ETH coin setting, why have so many options if most are EVM compatible? However, you mentioned to import a child seed phrase into MM (Rabby) to control the primary and any further wallet addresses generated off that seed phrase. My concern is this. Isn't importing a seed phrase into a hot wallet exposing it to an attack? Up to now I have just imported my cold wallet which works but I do understand that the wallet address Rabby generates are not controlled by me. Is importing a seed phrase to Rabby safe? Nothing is safe when you expose it online in any way, however, if you are using a child key then it is only that seed phrase that will ever be at risk, this is the reason for having a child key. You never expose your MasterKey and this is where you create a passphrase for it and store your main portfolio, because even if your masterkey was somehow exposed it wouldn't matter. After all, your passphrase hides all the addresses under it. The child key is used if you want to import a seed phrase into a wallet and only use that wallet for day-to-day transactions or smaller amounts of crypto. @@stevehk1800

Understood. I planned on not using my master key for anything other than as a gatekeeper for all the child wallets I’ve set up. My master has no assets attached to it. I've not added any assets yet so still can pivot if this makes no sense to you. The idea is to run a few of my high value accounts off child keys. I think I’ll rather import my first whole Keystone 3 Pro which has nothing on it but one single high value asset to HODL into Rabby. I have a second Keystone, with lesser valued assets but still enough to worry about. I’ll also import that whole wallet under a separate Rabby address, too. My Tangem V2 I use for daily stuff. I guess I lose the benefit of total control over wallets address and private/public keys but it’s a trade off to putting seed phrases on the internet. Would you agree with this strategy? Appreciate your insight on this.

Personally what I do is I have my Master which has a passphrase and all my main assets are on that passphrase-encrypted account/accounts. There is one further step I have taken to mitigate a wrench attack but can't disclose that in case it actually happens :). I use multiple child keys for wallets like Tangem, MetaMask, and Exodus. I don't use any hardware wallets only Tangem, I have in the past but don't anymore. I think it is important to never have your actual main holding account/accounts ever exposed under any circumstances however that is just me and I like to take extreme measures now with both backup and security especially now more than ever with the future potential threat of AGI/Quantum attacks.@@stevehk1800

They are both as secure as each other, the only difference is 2.0 gives you the opportunity to either 1. Generate a seed phrase in Tangem when you set up, or 2. Import your own seed phrase. With both of those options, it does give you the freedom knowing that if for some unseen reason you lose all 3 cards you still have your seed phrase to restore all your assets. Also one thing to note there is also a more secure option with your PIN allowing you to disable it. Personally, I think 2.0 is better because of those 2 options.

What I will say though is for s complete beginner to crypto the 1.0 process is alot easier and then it really comes down to making sure you dont ever lose those 3 cards, and if for some reason you lose 2 cards you can always buy another set of cards and transfer all the assets to the new cards.

I support both Tangem and Ledger, so this is just in general. So you know how everyone was questioning Ledger about their recovery service? Why isnt anybody questioning Tangem for being able to extract and generate a seed for their cards? Like its the same thing.

Hi, it isnt the same thing. You can't extract the seedphrase. You have 3 options 1. As per normal choose to activate the cards with the seed phrase never visible and never accessible. 2. Generate a seed phrase and copy and store it safely. With this option the seed phrase is burned onto the chip as it was with option 1 the only difference is you get to copy it when you first set up the wallet, you don't have access to it in Tangem after that.. 3. Import your own seed phrase and again burn onto the chip, this seed phrase can't be accessed from within Tangem only you have access to it wherever you have it stored and saved..

They can just store it.. and send it out once you go back online no? I say use a burner phone, that is offline, and factory reset it after the cards are created, only way to be sure.

You are right the phone needs to be clean and not compromised. I personally use a burner for my main portfolios and then just my regular phone for the everyday use Tangem wallets. I use ESET which scans my phone regularly and have never had an issue but I think many people might not have any type of protection on their phone so it might be a good idea I make a quick short video on these issues. I have placed my order three weeks ago, it said within 3-10 business days I should receive my order, I still haven’t received it. There is no number to call, and via email they keep on writing, it is shipped now I should receive it within six business days. It seems like they don’t recognize they screwed up and pretend that this is normal. I would not trust these armatures with one single cent of mine, let alone my cryptos.

No you cant and here is why: Standard Compliance: Seed phrases are designed to be compliant with certain standards (like BIP39) that specify how they are generated and used. Adding or changing words can make your seed phrase non-compliant, potentially leading to compatibility issues with wallets and services. Entropy and Predictability: The security of a seed phrase lies in its randomness (entropy). By adding your own words, you might inadvertently reduce the randomness, making the phrase more susceptible to attacks if your added words are predictable or easily guessable. Recovery Issues: If you modify your seed phrase by adding words and then need to recover your wallet on a different service or device, the modified phrase might not be recognized, leading to loss of access to your funds.

You might want to take a look at this betterhumanz.com/security When you generate a BIP39 Seed phrase you can access all chains when you import that seed phrase into Tangem, and all addresses can be accessed by that tool, just keep in mins Tangem uses BIP84 Bitcoin addresses, so you need to select that in the tool to see the address.

But if I just use the ethereum coin, like you did in the video, to generate the pass phrase then it's fine the way it is where it says Bip 44. Right? This is where you dont understand. When you generate a seed pjhrase all the addresses for all the chains are created, the tool just allows you to display all the addresses depending what coin you choose in the tool will display those addresses, they were already created. No you dont need to factory reset your wallet, that was simply a demonstration. You can simply scan your cards and set them up, then if you have another set of cards you can scan them and set those up also. Once you have the cards all activated then you simply scan a card to open that wallet for that card.

Hey great video! But isn't the sub-seed phrase generated from your video also a BIP39 seed phrase and therefore limited to the 2048 words entropy? Something i didn't yet understand here, it seems. Hope you could explain that in more depth, since I wasn't able to find anything on the web to that yet.

A 12-word seed phrase is 2048^12 is equal to 5,444,517,870,735,015,415,413,993,718,908,291,383,296 combinations in this current era even with the current supercomputers power it is impossible to brute-force a seed phrase. What I will say is you can future-proof because of (maws law)(even if it has slowed down) by using a 24-word seed phrase and another layer on top that will literally make it unbreakable. Keep into consideration you have to make sure the entropy (randomness) is at least 128bits for the 12-word and 256bits for the 24 if you want max security because if the entropy is too low you will run the risk of your seed phrase being brute-forced. I have a video coming out in the morning with something I have built that will solve many of these issues :)

Great tutorial! You might be able to explain better than Tangem support. I reset Tangem 2.0 primary card to factory settings prior to resetting the backup cards. Now, when I try to reset the backups I get the error message. Are those backup cards now worthless?

You use the cards when you connect to a dapp using Walletconnect to make any type of transaction or connection. The card is your key and to do anything that requires authorization you need to tap your card on your phone (NFC) to confirm :)

If you only plan on using the Tangem to simply hold your assets then you don't need child keys. Just realize though that your 3 cards are your keys so if you lose all 3 cards then you lose your assets.

In other videos I've seen people using Sparrow software and they could see each UTXO individually. I've sent 2 transactions to my Tangem now. A small one to test it, and then the rest of it to follow. But where are the UTXO's kept so I know how many I have, and so I can consolidate them in the future?

Click on Bitcoin on the home screen that will show you the transactions, and where the transactions are there is a some text that says "Explorer" on the right where it says "Transactions" if you click on the "Explorer" text it will show you all the information and transactions for your Bitcoin address. @@Solo6R

Why not use the master key instead of the derived seed phrase when creating the private key in the Tangem app?

You can use your master key if it is passphrase encrytped, then you simply hold the majority of your portfolio on the address that has been derived from the passphrase encryption. The BIP85 is a different method of making sure you never expose your masterkey anywhere at anytime and just use the BIP85-derived seed phrases for specific wallets.

Agreed. I would suggest using the master key otherwise you now have two keys you need to protect and also have to remember a more complicated process. One thing not mentioned is that you also need to keep track of which sequence number you used for the derived key or you may get the wrong key if you go back to the master key and derive the keys again. Each sequence number produces a completely different derived key. It’s just way too complicated to use this approach which increases the likelihood of error.

Just trying to import my own offline generated seed phrase with my phone also offline and I get several error messages saying it can't create the wallet. Do I need to have my phone connected to wifi while setting up the wallet?

Yes they haven't developed the offline feature as yet. My advice is to use a factory reset phone that is only used for crypto apps. And use a seedphrase that has a passphrase, and keep the majority of your assets on the hidden account. If you are not sure how that is done let me know.

Ok good. tangem cnan't create wallet offline and restore wallet via seed phrase offline. so it's not security. they help you save the certificater on their server.

Correct they still haven't updated that feature yet. If you have factory reset the phone then only install the Tangem app and make sure you are on a private secure home network then the risk has been mitigated.

it isnt a website it is a html page, hence why you download the stand-alone version if you want to be 100% sure. I have scanned the HTML file and checked all the lines of code there are over 30,000. It is safe. The best practice is to download the standalone version and then use it on your computer it will run locally and not on the internet. If you want to be even safer simply disconnect from the internet when you use the generator. @@BillyJakeBulda

I still CANNOT see Tangem being the safest to keep your funds in!! If someone enters your house and steals your 3 cards if you happen to have them in the same place they can steal your funds by changing the passcode with the help of the second card and clean your funds without any problem!! At the same time if they steal your ledger OR any other cold wallet to get to your funds they need to enter your 12 or 24 phrase! If the above is true HOW IS IT that Tangem is the SAFEST most SECURED wallet in the market???? Ok you might say keep the 3 cards seperate! But if it happens to be that someone steals your 3 cards they got ALL your funds which they CANNOT do if they steal your ledger or other cold wallet!!

Not if you have disabled that feature. And if you have all 3 cards together then you for one never listened to any advice from anyone at all, and 2 it is plain foolishness. As for a ledger if they are going to steal a ledger then I am sure they know what it is and they will just wrench attack you. Secondly Ledger looks like a crypto device and Tangem looks like a debit card so there is that. Thirdly if you or anyone is like 99% of people that don't really take the time to store their seed phrase in an actual place apart from the sock or office desk draw, then they will get that, but if you take the default Tangem route there is no seed phrase, so there's that to.

@@BetterHumanz I do know that you don’t store your cards in the same place and also seed phrases seperate etc! My argument here is that IF someone happens to steal ALL your Tangem cards they can get in to your wallet WITHOUT the 12 word phrase CORRECT???? I just got the 3 cards and been testing with other phones etc (like if someone stole my cards) and I could easily enter wallet by installing Tangem changing passcode with the help of the second card and easily got in to wallet! With other cold wallets if you attempt to do the same you need the 12 seed phrase to get to wallet but with the Tangem YOU DO NOT NEED 12 seed phrase to get to wallet!

@@BetterHumanz I was hoping that when I installed Tangem on another phone Tangem could see that account is attempted to be opened in another phone and would ASK for the seed phrase to continue but it didn’t If you do that with any other cold wallet and attempt to log in using another phone you MUST enter the seed phrase but with Tangem you DO NOT This makes TANGEM THE WEAKEST SECURITY OF ALL WALLETS in my opinion! I will put it another way If you gave me your ledger and also gave me you 2 or 3 Tangem cards I am guaranteed I could get in to your Tangem by creating a new passcode with the help of the second card BUT on the ledger I could Not UNLESS I had your seed phrase THIS IS MY CONCERN

The only way they can get your funds is with the cards. If they had your seed phrase they could but if you setup Tangem before the virus then they have no way to gain access to your seed phrase either.

You dont need to be online when you generate the seed.

Malware runs offline as well and ‚calls home‘ as soon there is again an internet connection… Avoid any installed third party ‚keyboards‘ if you type in your own seedphrase. I think the safer option is to let Tangem generate the backup seed but I am not so happy that Tangem generates only 12 words seeds. Only with tbe option to use and type in your own seedphrase a 24 words option is available. But typing is more risky than just writing down what was generated by the Tangem app.

@@viperviperpiroYou can only remain off the network until the point where you press the “Create wallet”, at which point you need to be connected to the web or you’ll receives an error message that a certificate cannot be loaded. 3 of your 12 words will be on the screen at that moment or all 12 to 24 words if importing a seed phrase.

After keying and hit create wallet, your wifi is still off after you click the create wallet? Then at scanning of backup wallets then on wifi again just before you scan the backup card #2 and #3? thanks!!
