It was the most lame, annoying, generic music that this lame, annoying, generic CGI action movie could ask for. Hans Zimmer did like *two* tracks that get stuck in your head because they always play every time you pause the game or start it up and go to the main menu.

The RAM requirements of 360 and PS3(512MB) was just killer last gen. Its impossible to overstate how limited that could be to devs like Crytek who were used to PC. If they were to have made a Crysis 2 or 3 this gen, it would have turned out differently, as open spaces are much easier owning to the PS4 and XB1's ram capacity
@cash_banooca17

The jaguars are weak, but far more capable than Xenon or Cell in normal tasks. base PS4 and XB1 could pull off a Crysis 2 or 3 remaster at a solid 30fps with high graphical settings if optimized properly. But yeah, 60fps would likely be off table with those physics intensive rendering features.
@cash_banooca17
@cash_banooca17 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you're right. But 30fps would be less than preferable. Especially with how fast paced Crysis is.
@MrInuhanyou123
@MrInuhanyou123 6 жыл бұрын
eh, i think it would be "fine". Console limitations and all that, console users are used to FPS at 30fps in many cases(every FPS was basically 30 last gen outside of COD), although this gen more franchises have gone the uncapped FPS route instead to hit closer to 60fps since they have a bit more headroom CPU wise
@cash_banooca17
@cash_banooca17 6 жыл бұрын
It would be tolerable yeah, as long as they wouldn't uncap the fps. I get horrible frame times in Crysis 3 when I lower settings because my CPU is dogshit alongside my 1070 in any CPU dependent game.

Crysis 2 (on PC anyway) was IMO the best looking game on the market in 2011 (especially after the DX11 patch), even above Battlefield 3 and Uncharted 3. Blur though? It barely looked good enough for the average standard at the same. Dirt 2 for example or Need for Speed Shift were heads and bounds above visually.

Crysis 1 was so underrated. All my friends just said that it was a technical benchmark not a game. They even didn't give it a chance. I loved it's freedom of playstyle and options to tackle missions. I loved Crysis 2 but not at first 1st. I missed the freedom so so much. But when I accepted that crysis 2 just wasn't crysis but it's own game, I also learned to love it in a different way.

Depends which game you play first tbh Crysis 2 was the first i played in the series and crysis 1 couldn't amount to crysis 2's level of badassery, and the aliens were so much scarier. Crysis 1 takes the crown away on the amount of freedom tho.

SYRØ that’s something i see so few people talk about. C2’s idea played so much on the creepy and morbid that no alien presence in any entertainment ever came close to it for me. If they ever pulled a trilogy rework of sorts i’d love to see them play even more on that aspects. You can see the concept very well in the wall trailer. You turn your head and there’s hive of mechanical slimy squids lurking in the wreckage of the skyscrapers. Watching you with their LED eyes while tilting their heads in a sadistic way. Then a metallic stalker’s growl, who jumps at you with the fierceness of a terminator and the agility of a leopard, and your throat is gone. Just wow.

Um.. "under rated"? Its known to have been the very last time there was a noticible and dramatic improvement in rendering technologies and game design. Id think the only person who would under rate Crysis, is someone who just does not understand what crysis is and was when it came out. Crysis was the birth of the modern shooter as all shooters itterated on Crysis's formula

+paul Aiello It better be impressive, especially when they're cheeky enough to charge $27000 for complete ships collection lol. Star Citizen is definitely no console game. Everything they're trying to do makes it a very premium proposition.
@paul1979uk2000
@paul1979uk2000 6 жыл бұрын
I've always looked at the money they asked for as support for making the game better but you don't have to pay that much, if you wanted, you can pay a low price and just get the game which I think is at a lower price point then what most games are on release, people spending more are doing it because they want a better game. In my case, I got Star Citizen and Squardon 42 at a low price of something like $30 very early on but I bought 2 other modest ships so spent about $100 on this game to support the development effort, I didn't want to go wild and spend a ton like some did but I don't see a problem with people doing that if it helps make a better game. In any case, if CIG gets this right, this game could blow away all the others we've seen in scale and the tech department and because gamers are getting to play it as it's being made, there is constant feedback from the developers and the fans so it's likely the game will be pretty good if not great as well.

I'm a big Crysis fan. Crysis and Crysis 3 are among my favorite FPS games of all time (along with the Metro series, Bioshock games, Doom, etc.). I also very-very liked Crysis: Warhead that was made in my country, Hungary. However I can't help but feel disappointed every time I think about Crysis 2. There are many problems with this game. To start off, the first game's unique alien-design was completely got scrapped and got replaced with something much more generic. Something that you can see in low-budget sci-fi series or something. As for the characters, the writers killed off Nomad abruptly and off-screen (there's a comic about this, but still) and they replaced the main character for no real reason at all. It was huge negative for me, because in my eyes Nomad was just as iconic to Crysis as Master Chief to Halo or Gordon Freeman to Half-Life. I know it's very subjective, but it was a bad idea in my opinion. The location/setting also changed (and it had a huge effect on the gameplay too, but more about that later). The jungle setting was one of the reasons behind Crysis' charm. It gave the game a very unique atmosphere. In the second game we got f*cking New York. Really? A city that I've seen thousands of times in another video games already? Just to name a few: Grand Theft Auto III and IV, Prototype I-II. Crysis 2 felt like just another generic shooter in terms of atmosphere and mood because of that. But as I said, this new setting (and possibly the limitations of the consoles) had an effect on the core gameplay of Crysis as well. The first Crysis had a great wide-linear level design. There was always a set goal that you needed to reach, there was always a sense of progression. However you were able to approach given situations/sites/objectives very differently, there were multiple routes to take and there were enviromental destruction (among other things) that enhanced immersion and elevated the game to another level. In Crysis 2 everything is extremely linear. The game is much harder than the first Crysis because small places are packed with tons of enemies, but the game doesn't give you the proper tools to play the game effectively / stealthly, etc (even if it has a stealth kill animation now). The explorable areas are simply not wide and open enough. In the end, Crysis 2 most of the time just frustrated me rather than giving me fun. However I love Crysis 3. It perfected the gameplay loop of the first game and it blended the good ideas from the first game (wide-linear level design, heavy emphasis on stealth, many options) with the good ideas from the second one (vertical gunfights... well, that's all). It also blended the enviroments from the two games (jungle and city).

agreed 100%, especially the "only human" mission in crysis 3, now that was a massive level with heaps of exploring, different pathways, sound, immersion and side objectives. playing that level on a 1080 Ti Ultra 4k with amazing sound just amazing.

I just replayed the trilogy, and I now think Crysis 3 is worse than 2. Sure, it's more open, but the AI is so stupid. I like the playful arenas of 2 more now. Crysis 1 is the best for sure, though.

I also feel Crysis 3 is underrated, i played the demo of crysis 1 first, then Crysis 3 and then completed the original after that. The poor performance of the original really kills the experience for me, but maybe i can't blame them too much for that. however i also felt Crysis 3 was genuinely better in many other areas. The music definitely better in 3. Prophet was far more interesting than Nomad, it felt like there was more variety in the gunplay and the story over all was far better.

I see this all the time and it doesn't make any sense to me. How is New York an overdone setting for video games? For Open World crime games like GTA? Maybe. But for Shooters? I literally can not think of one game besides Max Payne which was 20 years ago that takes place in New York. You name all these open world games but that is a completely different interpretation of New York. For GTA 3 and Prototype it's really like a cereal box interpretation of New York seen at a distance while diving around. In a shooter you actually get to see the city up close and personal and the step by step journey of Crysis 2, Half-Life style taking you through an entire day and night is intimate in a way that no other game in New York really has been. Jungle settings are not unique, Far Cry already did it earlier and since then Far Cry 3 and 4 did the same kind of motif along with 10 million survival games. Meanwhile I can not think of a single game that takes place in contemporary New York. This argument makes no sense to me.

Gameplay, atmosphere and soundtrack, and if you really get the story you can appreciate its complexity. Looking back clearly ps3 version wasn't optimal to play, enjoy it way more now. Will never forget the impact this game had on my life. Praying that one day this titan may resurface from the dust. Love the franchise and everything that made it what it is. P.s. I can't really imagine some games being built from the ground up for PC, a lot of great fighting games, racing games, Silent Hill, Resident Evil 1-4, Devil May Cry, Souls games, every Nintendo game ever, MGS, some of these series/games have come out later on for PC but the reality is you rarely see anyone build great games like these as PC exclusives, they inevitably take on a different shape or flavour. Which is good for the industry, last game I played was MechWarrior 3, not exactly possible on console without it's own controller Steel Battalion style (which should have been a PC game). Don't blame consoles for Crysis 2 being shit, I don't even think Crysis 1 was that great.

"I'm a big motion blur fan." FINALLY someone who can see why motion blur is great! I've always loved motion blur when done right and I can't understand why so many people hate on motion blur...it looks great!
@TyrannoWright
@TyrannoWright 4 жыл бұрын
Motion blur only works if it's implemented or used correctly. It benefits people who have have a fairly low framerate average and works on it's own if it's *not* used in a cinematic sense for others with high framerates. Source Engine games like Half-Life 2 have great motion blur compared to most games today that smother your screen to an obnoxious amount.

Good to see some real appreciation of Crysis. It really was so much more than the graphics that made it a great game. For me it actually did stealth better than any other game, including the ones that are ostensibly in the stealth genre. There was nothing quite like creeping around, utilising all the suit's powers, and then striking from the shadows.

Warms my heart to hear talk of punishing P4 CPU’s with this thing. For me Crysis started on a 2.3Ghz Celeron D (a cut down P4, with no hyper-threading, less cache etc) and a nvidia 7600 GT. Even the menu’s were a slideshow.

Crysis 2 was the final nail ob the coffin of PC exclusive graphical showcase games. Graphic blockbusters for PC alone just commercially didnt make sense. Even today according to Steam only few % of gamers actually have a high end graphic card. So it doesn’t make sense to make games for that crowd

Crysis Franchise was suppose to be on PC, and was amazing for the time and still is, now however, once you play the Original Crysis and warhead, and come back to this, you will be amazed just how terrible it really is., consoles destroyed the Franchise, created by Developers that just got too greedy, and underestimated the PC fan Base. Alienate your Fan base and abandon them, and they abandon you. You clearly see the difference in PC made versus Console Port. Two is NOTHING like the Original. Felt 110 percent like a console and optimized for console.

When Crysis 2 came out I hate the huge downgrade they had to do to the engine in order to get Crysis 2 running on console... we lost the volumetric clouds we had back in to 2007 and instead of that we've got the traditional dome with a nice texture on it... we lost the famous procedural destruction I remember myself chopping all the trees and foliage in the first Crysis and they had to cut it and also the water physics ocean had to be removed for a more traditional mesh animation with a procedural texture on it... it's sad... I will love to see a similar video talking about Doom 3... I know John covered Doom on all consoles on an amazing DF Retro episode but when Doom 3 came out we didn't have PC tu run the game properly my first experience with Doom 3 was 3fps with all the settings off and 640x480 years after I was able to play the game finally and years after to modded and even today the modded version of Doom 3 can look better than the new Doom also they had to cut so many features when they ported the game to console for the Doom 3 BFG version of the game and they re-release the BFG version of the game on PC but if you compare the vanilla/original version of Doom 3 on PC with Max Settings and the BFG version of the game you can see as well al the cuts they had to do because the console version of the game... so at the end... the BFG version of the Game on PC is worse than the original version of the game because the console version again.

Crysis 2 is still absolutely bloody gorgeous at times and that's on just the 360 version. Very much enjoyed the game too. Crysis 3 similarly. Crysis is also rather good of course but I'm despite still being a lot of fun, I don't tend to play it that much these days I've got to wonder what the deal is with people thinking a game like Crysis 2 on the 360 somehow having an atrocious frame rate. The dips that are there are hardly game breaking and in no way reduced my experience. Fair enough that it bothers some that require absolute perfection but it's not game breaking like people bang on about The way Digital foundry are waffling on about here I'm guessing they can't go near an N64 then or PSX and Saturn for fear of passing out with disgust

I think you're looking at it wrong: Crysis2 wasn't a sacrifice to make it run on consoles. It's Crysis1 that wasn't a viable product in the first place, yes it was more advanced than its sequels in many aspects, but there was no market that could actually support a game of that scope,(ONLY ultra-high-end PCs) and definitely not sequel after sequel. I don't think creating a "future proof" game is all that impressive, any AAA dev can cram in all sorts of simulations, advanced physics, attention to detail and amazing graphics without a care in the world about costs, how well it'll run (they can even make it so that no PC in the next 5 years can run it if they wish), and absolutely no care for optimization, etc. The REAL challenge comes from pushing the boundaries of what could be considered impressive while at the same time making a product that can sell (AKA recoup its costs) in a timely manner, and is viable for at least mid-tier PC's, without sacrificing their game design goals.

You know like the bad aircraft mission nobody likes that got even cut from console versions, the very linear alien invasion mission where they just swarm you with aliens at times with little to no cover or the final level where you mostly just walk in a very linear ship until aliens show up for a bad boss battle what all just screams open level design -_-
