@@moby752211 I did the same thing as well. Got the pirate version and finished it only to realize how extremely good the game is and then bought the full version. Crysis 2 was an FPS game way over its league compared to all the other FPS shooters at that time. From gameplay to story all the way to graphics and detail, just so perfect.

Laureano Alfaro I have to disagree with you on that, I never played multiplayer (I’m not a big fan of multiplayer (competitive at least) games) but I played all the games single player. While it offered some new concepts, I never felt like it was a great game worthy of high praise. To me, the reason it got talked about so much, was how great the graphics are, and those graphics still stand up even today. 2 & 3 did better for the story compared to 1, but they just never felt like great games the way uncharted or last of us felt

@bricaaron3978
@bricaaron3978 4 жыл бұрын
Except anyone could run it. It amazes me that this lie persists to this day. The first time I played the Crysis demo was on my brother's 8500 GT. The 8500 GT was not even a mid-range card, it was a _low-end_ card. A _very_ weak card in 2007. And yet I played all the through the demo without any problem and loved every second. That PC had a dual-core CPU, but Crysis would have run just as well on a Pentium @ 2.8GHz. Did I play maxed out at high resolution and 60 fps? _Of course not._ But I played it, without any problems at all. And when I finally built my first gaming PC in 2008, I played Crysis _maxed out_ on a GTX 260 less than a year after release.

@bricaaron3978
@bricaaron3978 4 жыл бұрын
@@tuocbui *"one thing about the crysis games is that it is extremely friendly to low end pc"* Right. And that's one major difference between the true PC games that were released pre-2008 and the PC ports/versions released since: Settings actually made a huge _difference._ Over the past decade, games have often had many settings which have little benefit and little effect on performance, or a big effect on performance but little benefit. And my favorite innovation of all: the Fake Setting. Yes, this is a real thing. Anyone can test this for himself, but there have been many games with settings--sometimes it's Textures, sometimes Shadows, or AF, etc.--that literally have NO effect no matter what the setting is. These are tossed in to fool PC players into thinking they're getting a proper PC release, instead of the usual toss-port with only Resolution and one or two other options. Talk about dishonest, lol!

ironically quake 1 was much more demanding for its time than crysis was. the best computers ran the demo01 benchmark at 15fps average in fullscreen 320x200. my last-year-high-end 486 dx4 100 ran it at 7.5fps. half as fast as its pentium counterpart. i had to run the game in a tiny window to get a barely playable 20fps average. quake only ran actually well when i got my pentium 233 mmx in 1997 then and my voodoo2 in 1998. and it was STILL more demanding than its sequel.

If not, do not buy it, it will show them that it's a bad one. etc. Crysis is a great game without problems, and they must be rewarded with it. @@BIOSHOCKFOXX As far as the Crysis series goes I think they were great too. I still think gamers would be better off without EA/Ubisoft though. If we were talking about companies that tried to take a game in a new direction that just didn't resonate well with the players I wouldn't have this extreme opinion. EA and Ubisoft seems like they deliberately and constantly are testing the limit of just how much they can get away with in terms of buggy, lazy titles instead of actually making a product that is genuinely good. I'm not going to support a lazy, greedy company just because it once released a great title for someone else.

What is so sad about Crysis is how it never had to die. We see that Far Cry has survived by staying unique in its open world approach to first person shooters. Crysis could still be relevant, but they kept trying to simplify it for consoles. Instead of keeping it open world, they contracted the level design. Instead of embracing the strategy brought by each of the different armor modes, they combined them together. It didn't help that the story was a little out there and harder to follow than it should have been.

Console is the platform where the cash came from. so they have to make the game which is compatible with aging console hardware. that's why we got a corridor shooter instead open world sandbox. we never got a true sequel of crysis 1. instead we got a call of duty rip-off.

I've come to accept that Steam cant be my sole distribution platform for PC games anymore. I use Origin and Microsoft store/xbox a lot as well though not anywhere near as much as steam. and Uplay just for some reason have to be there even though all their games are on steam. lmao. MS store /XBOX is doing great things, but they need work. the store itself isnt very good, and the XBOX app is a bit of a mess and even more so is the UI on the xbox hardware itself. its mindboggingly stupid and messy. But Play anywhere is nice, Microsoft releasing all their games to both PC and XBox is nice, and I am quite tempted to give gamepass a shot as it seems to be a great value to me. its a double edge sword. its great for PC gamers, but for xbox itself I find that the only noteworthy redeeming factors of the current Xbox'es is 4K blu-ray playback, gamepass and Backwards compatibility with older xbox'es. And ofc Xbox one exclusive games before play anywhere really became a thing, like all 4 of those games lmao. As for Crysis 3, I remember at the time I was let down that it wasnt on steam. As annoying as that is origin isnt to much of a hassle to launch and just find the game you want to play so I am not all that bothered anymore, but I feel like all their games could easily just have been on steam as they once were. Microsoft I understand because they have the xbox brand and play anywhere along with gamepass that makes a good cohesive entity that is not really compatible with steam as a seperate service, but they got to fix their mess of a store and the xbox app. And the XBOX UI itself on the console is the worst. I loathe the ui on my Xbox One S, it used to be decent at least back in the 360 days and now its just a nonsensical incomplete mess. Steam have just stayed solid. if it aint broke, dont fix it.

Please do a "The Rise and Fall of Mafia". Similarly to the other game series you usually talk about in these videos, the Mafia series also had amazing potential and while flawed delivered a unique first game with a well written story and realistic game mechanics. Then it fell hard and after a period of "development hell" for Mafia 2 and then Mafia 3 it turned to an awkward and buggy gta clone. I think it would make a great case study. Btw great video as always, keep up the good work

I have a really strong bond to the original Far Cry. It wasn't really a great game, but the engine was pretty incredible - and the really amazing part was that it sort of appeared out of nowhere, at a time when gamers were really drooling over the "next gen" games that had already been on the horizon for years - Half Life 2 and Doom 3, among others. But there it was - out of nowhere, Far Cry looked like it was half a generation ahead of THOSE next gen titles... And to top it all off, it actually released before any of them (Far Cry released in March, Doom 3 in August, and HL2 in November). 2004 was one heck of a year for PC gaming. But that's not really why I have such a strong bond with Far Cry. I used one of the early Far Cry demos, which by mistake or otherwise, included the full CryEDIT editor - as part of a presentation I did at school. The presentation was about game physics - and I fondly remember building a physics sandbox in the demo. Stacking barrels and boxes, spawning all sorts of objects and such, so that I could show off how advanced game physics had become, using a live demo. Brought my gaming PC to school and everything (because of course, no machine at school stood a chance at even loading the game). I remember even learning about some of the scripting tools in the game, to create AI groups and paths and so on. So, in short - it's a really weird feeling watching this video, and remembering how this CryEngine piece of gaming history got started. And to think I used the engine as a class demo, before the game was even out. I'm feeling old.... Edit: OH AND ALSO, the Fry Cry multiplayer was *the bomb* at LAN parties. We had a local annual LAN party, and we would play Far Cry (original, no mods) Assault maps. We even had a tournament each year. Something about the Assault game mode, and that freaking beeping sound when the flag was about to be captured... It stirred people into a frenzy. So much yelling and so much panic and so much fun during those tournaments. The multiplayer was broken in a lot of ways, but we didn't care - we kept playing that game until like 2010, becase nothing else managed to pull people in quite the same way. And as an added bonus, the game's multiplayer was always quite obscure, so nobody was amazing at it - unlike CoD or CS, where there was always a handful of people at the party that would just be so much better at the game than everyone else, that it wasn't really fun to play. Far Cry was the great equalizer.

I didn't know anything about Far Cry before Far Cry 3, finding out just now that the original had to do with mutants more than it did terrorist groups or extremists. Didn't know that it started out with the plot of a 90's Sci-Fi movie. I said out loud to myself "THIS is what the original Far Cry was about!?" Having experienced the opposite just now, what were your reactions to Far Cry as the series progressed, as it became more grounded in reality and lost the original idea?

I wish so much that everyone could have seen what this game originally looked like before it had to be stripped down a bit. @Ken narville Not saying the game-play was great; I really hated that they COD'ized the whole thing because that's what was popular at the time and because they were sacrificing their resource-heavy sandbox mantra so they could optimize it for stupid shitty consoles. I loved going nuts with the console commands in Crisis 1 and Warhead, the physics were so wonky and fun! For Crysis 3, I just meant to say it was a good wrap-up plot-wise, had great graphics, nice music/atmosphere, etc. but yeah, it was a completely different beast than the first two (the original and Warhead). Much less replay value for sure, way more on-the-rails; I've actually been playing the original and Warhead recently again, just because they're so freeform and chaotic and fun even 10 years later.

+Cynical Joker Alcatraz is killed in the beginning. His mind and conscience are eliminated, leaving only his body. A body alone is useless. No direction, no purpose. But it does have form. Prophet finds him as he's dying, carries him away and puts him in the nano suit. At that point, Alcatraz the body gains the suit's intelligence. At this point, Alcatraz regains the mind. The suit's AI tells him where to go and what to do. With a mind, his body now has direction. Over the course of the story, it's revealed that Prophet's consciousness was left behind in the suit when he took it off. Something to do with the mind/body symbiosis that characterizes the relationship between suit and wearer. Certain events allow that residual consciousness to awaken inside the suit's AI. Prophet is now in the player's ear, telling them why they need to complete the mission (and when they need to go off-mission). Prophet is conscience, and he gives Alcatraz purpose. Body/mind/conscience. Form/direction/purpose. That's a complete human, right there. We lack form, we're an empty exosuit with an AI fruitlessly buzzing at nothing. We lack direction, we're a form in which no consciousness can awaken in the first place (Prophet existed in the "deep layers" of the suit's AI). We lack purpose, we're just a physical form running at mission objectives unquestioningly. I thought that was pretty profound. The first game, by comparison, is just regular alien sci fi with some light political thriller mixed in. Meanwhile, the third one is a saturday morning cartoon about hunting bows and the alpha ceph.

Crysis was never meant to be open world nor should it ever be. We already have enough game companies jumping onto that bandwagon already. While Crysis 2 was the weakest game out of the three, it was still much better than most trash we got back then and are getting now. Graphics will only take you so far. Crysis 1 was incredible and way ahead of its time, but with all the console peasants around it was inevitable that the next games be held back in that regard. The most important thing will always be gameplay.
@DatGrunt
@DatGrunt 6 жыл бұрын
I think the fun came from the open-ended gameplay of Crysis 1. Yeah it was "open world" but even if it was a bit less open the gameplay would have shined through. It was truly revolutionary in terms of gameplay and visuals. Even today when I play the game I'm honestly surprised how well the game looks. Sometimes it's downright beautiful when the moon is shining down upon you or when the sun is coming down. You know those types of games that look so good you just stop and look around? That happens a lot to me in Crysis. The story and characters weren't amazing (I think Crysis 3 was the best in that regard) but it was still extremely fun.

You weren't a superhero, you were just a special force guy with an enhanced suit, but not immortal. You had to be very cautious, plan every move, had to use the environment, the suits abilities. Our mod and servers are free to play and download, and work with both Steam and CD versions on 64 and 32 bit. The official online servers were shut down on May 31 2014, due to Crytek have huge financial problems. Do your tribute and buy Crysis 1 from Steam, get our mod, play the game and enjoy what everyone was talking about back than. At the moment, you need a PC that can run CS:GO on Max Graphics on 100 fps, in order to play Crysis on Mid-High settings on 60 fps, so this SHOULD work for most of you. BEST REGARDS GERMANCRYSIS.COM

"Optimizing" for consoles in Crysis 2 & 3 are the real downfall of this beloved original PC exclusive series. Not only that, instead keeping the open world level design & sense of freedom in Far "Cry" & "Cry"-sis, they did the ultimate typical mainstream shenanigans with corridor levels COD clone for Crysis 2-3 under "EA." Meanwhile Far Cry's Ubisoft keeping the open world aspect with its dunia engine, made FC2. It become a cult classic like original. Then, FC3 became a huge success 'cause it's the only "open world" fps game at the time for every platforms.

Cynical Joker idk about you but in my own experiences it didn't feel like open ended at all (maybe because how the mission/target locations placed?). It felt just like linear Crysis 2 but with bigger area. What people expected back then is more open world like Far Cry & Crysis, especially on how people were loving FC2 & FC3 open world level design with sandbox. Even the car driving in Crysis 3 was very limited in certain mission if I remembered.

Same thing happened to F.E.A.R 2 and 3. Instead of sticking to the brilliant design of the first game, they downgraded it for the consoles. I guess from the time of when Call of Duty was at it's most popular, they decided to copy the gameplay. Why do developers have to seriously have to downgrade their games to fit the console audience, I'm sure they wouldn't mind a PC shooter on their console.

Couldn't agree more.. yes Crysis 1 and Warhead were technologically more impressive for their time, but as for sheer enjoyment, Crysis 2 takes the cake. The suit is actually fun to use and doesn't run out of energy after you so much as fart too loudly, the verticality and setting lends itself to far more interesting combat scenarios unlike 300 moronic soldiers walking and crouching towards you in a straight line every 25 meters shouting classics like "Kiiii Hiiiim", "Mouu aut" and "Hekky Shekkky" which 'til this day make roughly zero sense. Let's not forget Crysis 2 also had an amazing main theme thanks to none other than Hans Zimmer. It just felt more polished, more grand and way more fun.

Crysis 1 multiplayer was pretty fun to play. And it was much more dynamic than the one showed in this video. The problem was it was very difficult since you had to struggle a bit to be completely able to control the Nanosuit abilities in the multiplayer, you could combine the abilities and “create” new ones. It was a hardcore multiplayer. But it really was fun. It was the best multiplayer I ever played. And I played many: Medal of Honor, Battlefield 2 & 3, COD, etc.. The_North

I LOVE the first crysis. Still think it's one of the best shooters ever. And I totally disagree with the usual criticism about the linear action of its last third. I remember how mind blowing was to leave the alien ship and see everything frozen and the aliens were unleashed. The contrast with the first two thirds made the gameplay fresh and, most importantly, the narrative richer and more engaging.
@bricaaron3978
@bricaaron3978 5 жыл бұрын
I agree, except the actual gameplay with the aliens is terrible. That was flat-out a mistake. Crytek violated a few basic rules of shooter design, the biggest one being that enemies need to have satisfying *feedback* when you hit them. It's just no fun shooting metal casings that don't react to being hit in any way. I admit, it didn't bother me a whole lot on my first few playthroughs, when the game was still fresh, but over the years, I came to realize why so many people didn't like the later parts of the game. Overall, Crysis is the best shooter ever made. I feel genuinely sorry for people who have never played the real game--the PC game--and think it's just a "tech demo". No shooter has better movement and weapon mechanics, and better overall feel. Cevat Yerli is a big, fat, greedy butthead.
@burstingwizard975

I have mixed feelings on the aliens. On the one hand they really FELT alien. They really felt like they came from another world and were there for unknown reasons. That aspect of it was perfect Fighting the aliens wasn't as satisfying as fighting the Koreans though, at least not the little aliens. Blowing the fliers out of the air was fun, especially when they land somewhere and blow up. I wish the final third had been a fighting retreat from the Koreans and the bigger aliens while they fight each other. The lack of satisfaction from killing the little ones wouldn't matter as much if the Koreans were fighting them and you. A three way fight would've capitalized on the open world shooter feel of the game, rather than minimizing it

Yes but there are still people who enjoy it better, it isbt fact those are just features that in your opinion make it better. The general fact of the matter is that most people didnt like the linear gameplay for a crysis game, that doesnt make it fact.

"7OXICiTY" was the name of an on-line Crysis-Wars server I started in January of 2009 which became arguably the best multi-player experience of the Crysis franchise, it was utterly customised with server-side code which upgraded and enhanced the vanilla Crysis-Wars to one which gave the player instant access to a range of commands which ranged from !Boxing to !Race... it was amazing to host and an honour to server the many players who passed through our doors, many other servers tried to copy our style... but we we're all flattered and just made it the best we could, so many talented coders and players joined our ranks, I was dreaming about it the other night... that's why I'm here now, we closed sadly around 2013 I think... a good run, had many good times and met many good people, they inspired me with their joy using the server and from their suggestions I/we went on to create a better and better experience... I have a few videos on my channel if you'd like to view some examples... the server software we used was built in house, we all pitched in to make it great, !Duel... ahh yes another one... I used to be the overload-admin, just doing my thing, enjoying the game, I loved using the vehicles over anything else and made many extra !commands to facilitate extra VTOLS and weapons etc... I miss it and them... I must of so missed it I haven't really joined up with anything else since... I've made an arcade game shooter in the mean time but besides that... no, it's odd actually... anyway I'm rambling... thanks guys you were the best.

Why did it close down.
@gan9e
@gan9e 5 жыл бұрын
@@theenglishmajor1198 I think it was when the GameSpy service for listing available crysis-wars servers closed down... leaving only a single solution to play on-line in the form of a custom grass-roots server listing-system which bypassed the old GameSpy connection, which sadly we didn't want to be a part of... because of our own custom server-software called UMBRA we thought was special enough to have its own solution to getting on-line which wasn't done... and if we didn't supply our own solution to playing our version of crysis-wars on-lne then the only other choice was to join with this other system but having to abandon the years of development in UMBRA, it would of all been made redundant overnight... so sadly it dissipated... it was the last days of Rome and everyone went mad... including myself... I gave away a version of UMBRA to a competitor in a blind hope of them taking up the mantle and running with it... as all around me was crumbling... I was like Princess Leia inserting that death-star data card into R2... but It was misjudged I think... nothing came of it anyway, we all knew in the dying days of the clan/server that there's always other games... I occasionally pop into have a look at the other chaps who are still going... hosting games, nice to see... also the ghosts of our command codes echoed in their servers... it seems the default is a rather moribund server system which took many hints and command idea's from us but it was a kind of flattery I suppose and we were lucky to have a really talented set of people with us and a great legacy... one which we kind of buried, but the videos remain... I should did out some more... it's been 10+ years since I first made that 7OXICITY server... I loved it...

I really like crysis 2 and 3s multiplayer way more the crysis 1 and warheads, I also liked the story for crysis 2 and 3 more , but the game play and level design of the single player campaign for crysis 1 and warhead were very much superior

Crysis was a beast. I still remember how we've scrambled with Nvidia to build a 5000 US-Dollar water-cooled PC to handle this game for our editorial review :O)

If they don't melt graphic cards doing so Because even tho this video doesn't tell anything about it, I feel like Crisis 3 also sold less because it was just to ressources demanding for its time. Look at the rain effects, and the size of the levels. Most pc users didn't have a machine capable of rendering that.

@@Sir_Bucket I really feel this is overstated, I played all three (not warhead) and even though I would consider graphics when buying machines through years as someone who liked playing and had a young son that was crazy about video games, I really never had the luxury of splashing on top notch equipment and would always purchase/build machines that were just above average both in terms of price and capability...

It doesn't mean they can't continue with the series though. Agents of Mayhem is the story created by one of the endings of Gat out of Hell. They could create a story on the basis of another ending. Or, they could reboot the whole thing. There are far too many ways in which they can continue the series.

Im not lying when I say I cried when the crysis remastered was announced... Crysis 3 introduced me to the game and I fell in love with it. I would come home, turn on my ps3 and play it all day. A year later I would receive a pc and play crysis and crysis 2 which I both loved. I love everything about this game series. The suit, the guns, *THE MUSIC* , and the lore. IM READY FOR THIS REMASTER!!!
