I think the thing people have to realize with the romance of Clive and Jill. They are adults, this is a very adult romance. We're used to seeing "romance" in games and even a lot of media as being hot and heavy, lots of kissing,,lots of... Physical affection.. But that's not all romance is, not all love is. And in that world, where both Clive and Jill are constantly under stress, the best show of true love is being there for one another, no matter how hard it is. And they both are. Through the years. And finally we see on screen physical and emotional connection. (Granted, I do personally think they probably have fooled around in the like 5+ years time jump off screen.. Like its pretty obvious thet had.. But actual romantic stuff like shown here.. Probably not lots of it)

My problem with it is the lack of much build up due to the fact that Jill is barely in the damn game. She's around for what, maybe 25% of the game? Less? My biggest complaint overall about the game is the way Clive was the only main character and the others barely got any development or screen time. Instead they choose to have a revolving door of forgettable NPCs accompany Clive if anyone at all. Game felt lonely. Otherwise awesome game, great main story and action.

I wonder if the emperor was originally going to be the big bad? dude gets a fair bit of build up and relevance before Dion just fucking kills him and nothing comes of him ultimately.

Ultima was always the big bad, its a final fantasy trope that the game gets turned upside down when the villain becomes serious
