Most people there were either unaware of Crystal Castles or didn't like them. The Cure were headlining with Franz Ferdinand and this was an NME show. As much as they tried to push Crystal Castles, their readers never really liked them and most of their fans thought the NME was shit. Also sound issues and the bass being too heavy in the mix meant the crowd couldn't really hear anything anyway. This was one of their worst gigs in the UK, we'd pretty much been the first country to adopt them and they'd toured the UK several times between 2007-2009 including the festival circuit. These were their best live years imo, this gig, not so much.

I love that their shows deny pleasure. I know people like to debate who was better between Edith and Alice, but I say alice. She’s just so natural on stage. She treats the stage like it’s her living room. Edith brought a lot to the band when Alice left and has a very exceptional voice. The only downside to castles ending is that Edith was just starting to get more comfortable on stage and in turn not sound as nervous on the mic. I just gotta give Alice the slight edge though. She was really young when she started the bad and just had such beautiful performances. Alice’s performances are pretty tame now compared to this version of herself from years ago.

To those saying she appears drunk or on drugs - I don't know, I think she's just a very natural, in-the-moment performer. Having myself played in bands and also getting loaded at times, I couldn't in any way do what she is doing. She's not missing beats or cues or anything. If you want to see what drunk on stage is, go see Amy Winehouse - she can't even start a song. Alice Glass is just an amazing performer - highly under-appreciated. One of the best of her generation.
