Well the comment is true but Grimes actually cares what people thinks which is why she gets a lot of anxieties and panic attacks. She said she never got over her stage frights. She even got a panic attack after being on SNL. Because she cares what people think of her she tries hard to be original and different. Her having creative control over her songs is just something every artist wants but a rare case gets the opportunity to do so. There is a lot of self criticism and self doubt that has to be overcome when you are taking control over your art. She does care about what people think of her as a person or a performer but she has idgaf attitude as an artist.

I think what makes Grimes' music so interesting is how she tows the line between consonance and dissonance. Often times adding "incorrect" sounds into a piece of music can elevate it beyond what you could do with sounds that all perfectly fit together. This is something that trained musicians struggle with but iirc Grimes just kinda started making music for fun without any training. This provides a level of freedom to just feel the music and do what sounds good to you more than most other artists have.
