Closed to the public. Drops off deep at the end of that shallow section. Really unstable crumbly sand and heavy mineral content. You sink really quick. Someone drowns there every year

On Saturday Edwin Caballero, 23, of Plainfield, New Jersey, visited the Heritage Minerals property, a privately-owned 7,000-acre tract of land in Manchester. He then went missing that day between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Family members said they last saw him near the shoreline of Crystal Lake, a body of water within the property.

As someone who used to live on the woods to that property. Don't go back there unless you want a ticket for trespassing on private property and definitely don't swim... every few years someone dies

I see people swimming in there all the time no problem, even toddlers with their parents. Drinking and getting tipsy, or not knowing how to swim is the problem. Drownings happen on every single body of water. Nothing special about this water than the idiot getting drunk or not knowing how to swim to begin with.

@@e5m956these types of aquifers have no shoreline in some spots, deep drop offs, and the temperature drops can cause you to spasm or have cramps. These are way more dangerous then the usual lake with a normal shoreline that gradually goes into the water etc

I used to go back there because I live only 35 miles away. I always went alone, I always swam nude. If I could buy this property from Hovnanian and develop it myself I would want to turn it into the "largest in land area clothing optional, nudist, naturist, recreation area, campground, resort, community, town on the ENTIRE PLANET". Just like Paradise Lakes in Land O Lakes Florida but about 10 times the size. Just like Whispering Pines in Ocean Isle Beach North Carolina but more than 20 times the size. JUST LIKE CAP D'AGDE on the Mediterranean Sea in the south of France but the buildings would hold NOWHERE NEAR as many people because there wouldn't be 3 or 4 buildings 5 stories high as much as there would be about 15 buildings no more than 3 stories high. There would also be miles and miles of bicycle, hiking, and jogging trails (some sand, some asphalt), as well as a few outdoor swimming pools more than 150,000 gallons in size, some horse stables and paddocks, a golf course (of some size), a planetarium in one of the fields in the woods, an ham radio listening and broadcasting station in one of the other fields, the worlds largest outdoor go cart track, and a number of other amenities that I won't list here simply because I know I'll never be able to do anything with it.

I also have a dream of winning the mega millions or somehow getting the funds to buy this property except I wouldn't change a thing about it. Let people just enjoy the land the way it is and how they always have. ATV riding, 4x4ing, camping, jet skiing, or just walking your dog... Over the summer me and my friend has taken well over a dumpers worth of garbage out of there. It's a beautiful place, I can't believe how much trash people leave there. We try to cleanup whatever we can fit on our trailer when we go here. I'll never lose the dream of someday acquiring this land and donating it the public to be used exactly the way it has been used and I wouldn't change a thing except making sure you follow the boy scout rule- you pack in, you pack out. No littering, take care of the place as if it was yours.

Is this spot accessible for hiking? I know swimming and off-roading can earn you a ticket, but would you get ticketed just for walking there?

@Dcvmnaturalist
@Dcvmnaturalist 4 жыл бұрын
Jason Schmalz - I’ve been there a few times, always see people. I didn’t see any “No Trespassing” signs back when I visited. There used to be buildings that were off-limits & clearly marked. There was supposed to be a whole development back there, but idk what happened with that because of the uranium back there. It would really mess up the headwaters of the Sunken Branch of the Toms River.

@AScannerClearly
@AScannerClearly 2 жыл бұрын
It’s technically only contaminated with what was already in the Earth there to begin with; they mined out monazite sand (typically black to orange in color) which is rich in Titanium & Cerium, but also contains small amounts of Uranium & Thorium which are radioactive. They’re tied up in the minerals and not in a water soluble form, so swimming there is not hazardous from a chemical standpoint.
