A beautiful human being. When I listen to Artemis speak I can see the young, sensitive child who should have experienced unconditional love and support, but instead was exposed to highly damaging sexual abuse.

But we really don’t know if the description of his childhood is true. He has some psychosis. For one, he thinks the spots on his back are his bone marrow leaking out of his skin. He needs mental help and some love would help but he needs to get his head straight first.

Your videos make it so clear to me that trauma is at the root of 99% of all addicts' dependency. We are not born equal, with equal opportunities, or in equally loving, healthy and happy homes. The abuse many addicts had to face at young ages and then the judgment and mistreatment cast upon them from the world as they use drugs to cope is devastating. I hope people leave your channel with a little more empathy for those living "alternative lifestyles"... I know I have.

Most of us pass by people that have had trauma and learn to keep things together. Sometimes we pass the ones that can't keep it together. Always keep eye contact. Its a start for most to turn things around and feel human.

Addiction does not discriminate… I think you might be surprised how many addicts have a great childhood with little to no notable trauma, grow up in a middle class family, and are surrounded by a constant support systems. To make the statement you have is filling in the blanks you just don’t know or hear about. Remember, these are the types of stories people want to hear about and come here to this channel to hear about, not some seemingly uninteresting way they fell into addiction, with little cause and effect for the viewer to see. Addiction is extremely complex. Your effort in further trying to understand those who go through things such as addiction is amazing and I was in no way trying to attack or come at you, so I’m sorry if it seemed that way. Thank you for your time, as well as anyone else who happens to read this.

I couldn't imagine having that dignity ripped from you...Gosh, my heart pours open for you Artemis!! My life experiences tell me those with high functioning Autism are some of the most POWERFUL and beautiful spirits on this Earth. Never give up working forward with the beautiful person you are! Our vessels are important, not mistakes or errors. In the end, our lives will measured ONLY by how we treated ourselves, others and what we contributed. Everything else is just lipstick and rouge. Woah. As different as many of us are to Artemis, I can’t help but relate to so much of what they’ve stated. How lost they feel, the simplifying, reverting back to what the main goal is. To go back to a place that’s familiar, or if not, to be treated like an equal, like a human being. To be heard, listened to. So much of what we go through can seem overwhelming and complex, when really it comes down to wanting to feel loved, accepted, and to have some mild purpose in life. I hope someone sees this and is able to help. 🙏

I wonder if Artemis is familiar with the book Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. It's about a family from Cyprus that immigrates to the midwest and a child within that family who is born with intersex traits but is raised female. As an adult, they reflect that they should have been raised male instead. Does Artemis' experience mirror that story? Are they subconsciously parroting its narrative as a coping mechanism?

I am Greek and hearing her story, Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides hit me immediately. It wasn’t her confusion “Cyprus, Greece” because many Greeks and Greek Cypriots consider Cyprus as part of Greece - historically, not de jure - for instance in everyday life they will say “I am from Megalonisos,” meaning “I am from the big island.” considering Cyprus as the largest island of Greece. The similarities with the book are astonishing. Maybe, this is her way to escape her hard reality. Who knows. I wish her the best.

How..? He's requesting for them to make his parts work so he can have a baby; he said he doesn't have millions and millions of dollars for the surgery to make his parts work so he can give birth. He also said he doesn't want to go to the hospital, because he doesn't want to receive medical attention.... he's alluding to the fact they want him on psych meds. The only way the health system can take individuals like this one seriously, is if we had proper protocols and places to house people with mental illness. Right now, nobody can make these people get help despite the fact they're not well enough to make sound decisions for themselves... the system just leaves them in the street. It's not helpful to act like there's a possible way for this man to have a baby, it's just the health system that's not taking him seriously enough to do so. That's cruel, to fuel an impossible fantasy like that.

Meth-induced psychosis is fascinating. You can never be too sure what parts of the story are real and make believe. The problem is that even post-recovery, the fabrications can persist. Artemis is a very nice man but according to my expertise as a psychologist and unfortunately I didn't know how to translate everything because I am French, he is a boy who, according to me, has been sexually exploited since childhood. This fear radiates from his being. I don't know if he has female genitalia because it is very rare but he has been so abused that he doesn't know what sex he is anymore. I have worked with adults who have been victims of pedophile rings and he has all the characteristics. Such traumas can destroy a life and he may have developed all the symptoms of autism. The town *patriarch* + my *grandmother's cousin* ( _both over 75 at the time_ ) were both *raping* me at the very early age of just 4, here in a very tiny village ( _population 100 back then, 300 presently_ ) on an island of *Greece* .... what "saved" me was that at age 5, my father brought us to America, and I grew up there, escaping the deviant lustful desires of these *paedophiles* . I didnt tell my mother about what had happened to me until I was 27 ( _after the birth of my daughter_ ), because she wanted to take my daughter with her on "vacation" to Greece when she was 4. It opened up a floodgate of memories I had tried to suppress throughout my life, and when she asked to take my baby with her and bring her back to this village, I FREAKED OUT! Because, that *town patriarch* was STILL ALIVE!!! In fact --- he lived to be 106 years old!!! YES. Now -- I will tell you HOW I came to BELIEVE that God is REAL and He is out there... My mom went to Greece that year, but WITHOUT my daughter of course. I was a VERY OVERPROTECTIVE mother. I never left my child with ANYONE except my mother. I need to just put that out there. When my mother went to our village, she went to "his" son's home ( _he and my mother were best friends growing up in this town, and his son was also the town's teacher_ ); when she went to his son's home, the old man, who was once the town's *patriarch* who stood 6'5" tall and looked like John Wayne -- a GIANT of a man, was now in a wheelchair, crippled and unable to walk, blinded and couldnt see, was stricken w/ cancer, stricken w/ dementia, and a host of other EVILS. Yet, God kept him alive ---- in order to TORTURE him. When he heard my mother speaking w/ his son and his daughter-in-law, he recognized her voice immediately ---- and he leaned over to her and asked her "Where is Leena? Where is your little girl?? Is she here with you??" ( _in his demented feeble mind, I was still that 4 year old little girl_ ); when he spoke those words to my mother, she could not contain herself any longer --- she broke out in tears, excused herself and bolted out of there as if the devil himself were after her. She ran home and called me immediately, crying hysterically and beyond herself, saying how "sorry" she was for not being able to protect me, for never having "known" and how she would never forgive herself because I had to carry such a burden on my own all those years. I told her : This is WHY I've never wanted to go back to Greece -- even for a vacation ( _which she begged me to do every year_ ); At that moment, she finally "understood" WHY. When my daughter turned 15, ( _and believe me, I EDUCATED my daughter at a very early age about the human body, sex + gender education, and...paedophiles. My daughter KNEW HOW to PROTECT herself!_ ); my mom took an early retirement and decided to go back to Greece to live, and wanted to take my daughter w/ her for the duration of that summer. My daughter wanted to go ---- she had never been outside of NYC, and my mother told me "Dont you worry -- I will watch her like a LIONESS! She will never be alone w/ ANYONE!" ---- I said ok, but believe me, I would call every day and every night just to hear her voice and to tell her "goodnight my angel, I love you so much".... Towards August, she was missing me terribly and kept crying on the phone when I would call her at night, begging me to _"please come mommy, its so beautiful here, youre gonna love it I swear!"_ ...IF only I could tell her WHY I had vowed to NEVER go back to that country, that island and that town... but I couldnt do that to her. By the end of August, my daughter told me on the phone that she didnt want to go back to America, and that she wanted to remain and live in Greece, and she wanted me to sell off everything we had, pack my bags and go to Greece as well. I told her to put her grandma on the phone. I told my mother that IF she planned on keeping my child there, she would have to MOVE to the island's major City, which had a few schools, a high school, and a major Hospital, clinics, access to private doctors and a host of modern day conveniences, as close to NY as possible ---- and maybe THEN, I would "consider" going as well. But there was NO WAY IN HELL that I would allow her to keep my daughter in that town w/ that MONSTER still ALIVE!!! My mom did as I told her. She moved to the island's major city, rented a beautiful house right on the beach, put my daughter in private school, hired tutors for her to learn the language ( _she did not speak Greek at all_ ), she made friends, and was beyond happy to live there w/ my mom. The phone calls did not stop however. They went on for MONTHS + months on end ---- and it was always late at night that my daughter would cry on the phone, begging me to please go there. Finally, by the beginning of April of that year, my mom said to me : _"Please come honey. You wont ever have to 'see' that bastard, we're five hours ( by car ) away from our town. He can't hurt you anymore baby. Please, come, your child misses you terribly."_ .... Believe me, it was w/ a heavy heart that I packed my bags, ( _trunks basically --- I had all of our clothes and items shipped_ ) and got myself a plane ticket, quit my job, got on that plane and left my beloved NY and America, to go back to a country I had never known. I arrived there w/ a heavy heart --- but with a big smile on my face as soon as I saw my baby running out of the house and into my arms. It felt as if DECADES had passed since I had last seen her. The next day, was our "Big Easter" --- it was Sunday, April the 16th --- the day of my Birthday. At 7 PM, my cousin called us from the town to wish us a Happy Easter, and she informed my mother as an "after-thought" : _"Oh, btw, grandpa Marcos passed away this morning at 6 AM, the town's Church bells rang for him."_ *I was born on Easter Sunday of April the 16th at 6 AM.* IF that is not *GOD* ---- I dont know what is. HE waited and waited... and brought me back HERE, and KILLED this MoFo for ME on the exact day and hour that I was born in! It was the BEST Birthday present I had ever received!!! Yes. I KNOW He did it ---- and thats when I KNEW that God is indeed REAL + TRUE. That's my story. Forgive the lengthy "digression" --- but I had to tell it to you like it was and as it happened, and for you to KNOW that yes, there are EVIL people out there in this great big world of ours... and they are capable of DESTROYING YOUNG CHILDREN as young as INFANTS ( _oh yes, believe me when I tell you --- INFANTS; but that is another story, much more heinous than what I suffered_ ) ; and IF you do have young children yourself --- all I will tell you is this: NEVER EVER LEAVE THEM OUT OF YOUR SIGHT!!! WATCH OVER THEM LIKE A LIONESS!!! Good luck to you my sister, may GOD always keep and PROTECT you and yours from every evil in this world. 🙋 Stay SAFE and may God continue to BLESS you in everything you do! 🙏 Much love across the miles. ❤

One theme I notice in watching Marks videos, is that almost all, if not all of these humans, we’re abused in some way, as children. It makes me so very sad. And so sure that’s where we have to focus our love and attention. By keeping the children safe. Love and protect them. All of them. With all of our might. If we really want to change the world, we start with changing the way we raise this entire generation. ♥️

I also felt like Artemis’ reference to “the conflict” had something to do with themselves being trafficked, but I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what or when they were talking about. Now reading your comment, it all makes sense. They could very well have been trafficked from Greece as a baby. They vaguely talk about the original family in the mid-west, maybe people who trafficked them further. They know they were abused many times, but has no idea of how many. Seems a lot happened in very very early childhood. My heart breaks for Artemis. I truly wish them the best of luck and positive guidance through life.

@@ashby4211 he certainly doesn't know squat about Greece if he wants to return there. He's got the immense privilege of living in the US and he should take advantage of it. That being said, he mentioned his family briefly at the beginning and said his siblings have careers unlike him. I can't find the part where he says he might be from Cyprus and not Greece, that's suspicious. Artemis is in a sad place. Artemis is also, very delusional. I hope they get help, they’re close to being unable to help. (This is an edit; Crack cocaine very commonly causes psychosis. It causes paranoid delusions, and schizophrenic behaviours. It is very, very well documented. This person, is clearly suffering from severe mental health disorders, and needs serious intervention. Hopefully it is crack cocaine induced, and they can get clean, and get healthy, and deal with the trauma that led them to drugs in the first place. What bothers me most in many responses to many of these types of comment sections, is the pure ignorance when it comes to peoples attitudes towards delusional behaviour. Someone having delusions, is not disgusting, offensive or wrong, therefore someone pointing out delusional behaviour is NOT someone who is offending the person they are speaking of. How hypocritical can a society be, when they state that mental health needs to be addressed and the stigma around it needs to be dropped, yet in the same breath, they vehemently take offence to the word delusional, and make it an insult. YOU friends, are the hypocrisy and the stigma holders here.)

Artemis is sweet. But, the more he talked, the more everything made sense. Mark always talks about how much doing these videos has not only taught him about alternate ways people survive on the streets but about how addiction and mental health issues are correlated and further explain how/why many of these interviewees live destructive lifestyles. Artemis’ story, for example, was all over the place. First he was from Greece, then Missouri, and then he mentioned another place that he may have been born in. He then went on to talk about how he has a uterus as well as male parts. He mentioned wanting you have a baby, yet when asked if he has a menstrual cycle, he admitted to not having one. I found that when he was about to rant about a (likely nonexistent) aspect of him or his life, he continued to say “I don’t know how to explain it”. I’m no therapist, but again, it seems like he a constant battle with mental health issues. He struggles with his sexuality, he’s experienced some trauma and has yet to receive proper counseling for it, and he’s lost. If you listen closely, you’ll notice that he rambled, but his story was fragmented and most of it made no sense at all. Thank you for sharing this video, Mark. I hope this guy gets some help soon.

That's where I landed, too. What did seem true was that he was sent to private school, got a high school diploma, and went to college. He mentioned several subject he studied. Do human traffickers care enough to support a child with special needs to the extent that the child makes it to higher education? That part just doesn't make sense to me. I do not doubt that Artemis has experienced trauma. It seems, though, that fiction and non-fiction are not separated in their mind and they have a tenuous grip on their life narrative. That being said, I believe them when they say they hate and avoid violence. They're not cut out for the streets. My heart broke for Artemis when they expressed a deep longing to find something and someone that feels like home. This person is more innocent and confused than most that are portrayed, which is why I think so many people feel a longing to protect and shelter them.

This young man is showing signs of catatonic schizophrenia, which could have been prevalent before his drug use or exacerbated because of it. There is a possibility that he was in fact born in the USA and not Cyprus. It is also hard to know if anything else he talks about is in fact true or just part of his psychosis. What is apparent is that he needs immediate medical/mental health treatment if he has any hope of recovery.

It sounds like he is saying he grew up in a cult. Maybe sex trafficked. Makes me sad. I can’t imagine anyone hurting my children. I have an autistic son and I hope no one ever hurts him because he wouldn’t hurt a soul.

@@Azozeo People can care about other and still have some personal boundaries. I used to let everybody move in if they were broke and/or addicted. So did my mom and grandma, so don’t act like there aren’t people who do that. I know many who do. If you’re like that, it’s even more helpful to volunteer officially, or get a job where you help people, like human services, social work, teaching, or counseling. For the past several years, I mainly do it that way (though I help friends, without moving them in). I’m actually able to help a lot MORE now that I don’t have someone’s partying, stealing, or drug use to worry about. I don’t judge people for those things, and I’ve had my own problems. but they do drain you.

@@piotrmitrega2765 If you're asking why it makes my heart hurt, it's because I can see he's suffering, and I feel that. If you're asking why I wish I could help him, it's because I can see he's struggling, and I wish I could help. As to how I would help, obviously I know nothing about his life circumstances, but at the least, if I were in his orbit, I would hope to be a kind and unconditional listener.
