The animator(s) did an excellent job on the facial expressions and body language. They accentuate the dialogue so well and they made Spyro look absolutely adorable! Thanks for compiling and sharing all of these; that must have taken a while. All the best!

Easily the most effort I’ve seen in developing a video game, let alone a remake, in a long time. I didn’t play much of Spyro as a kid, but seeing the massive overhauls in design that are unique to EVERY dragon is just mind blowing to me. Then when I realized the dragons were themed in relation to their hub world, I was just totally caught in amazement. THIS is how you put effort into a game, no matter the caliber. Plenty of present day devs need to take notes.

I like that most of the dragons in the remake first start off to fit their advice, dragons on gliding and flying typically have large wings, or those on mechanics, like the save dragon, have attire to fit their advice. Some are also built, typically the ones that boast of their strength are very big and with large upper torsos. Then later they just fit what their land basically has.

As far as I can tell from IMDB, Michael Gough (voice of Gnasty Gnorc) is the only one of the original game's five (5) voice actors to make a return for the remaster. And he's only credited for Gnasty there, so I can't say whether he reprised any of the 14 dragons he originally voiced, or did any others.

I only just now realized that it isn't only the first dragon in Gnasty;s world that is a repeat. ALL OF THEM are dragons you previously freed. That must mean that while Spyro was freeing the dragons, the dragons that were freed weren't just sitting around uselessly - they were actually trying to fight Gnasty but lost, forcing a retreat after a few of them were turned back into statues (or, perhaps, it was only a band of dragons that attacked Gnasty, all of whom were turned into dragons a second time during the battle).

Unpopular opinion probably but I actually prefer the original dragons. I didn’t think the needed clothes, hats and paintbrushes etc. I also prefer the voice acting in the original. I loved that the original dragons had a distinct colour palette and size depending on what world they were from. That was kinda lost here. That being said, Spyro himself is flawless! So much expression and so so cute! An amazing game! I come back to it every year at Xmas for nostalgia vibes!

I admit I was kind of lukewarm in the release leadup by the dragons they showcased (except Gavin-- I was always tickled by the teapot on his tail and his "Big and strong!" animation, he's wonderful) but once I saw the sheer scope of them in-game I was really blown away by how all-in they went. I saw some complaints at the time about the dragons being humanized by wearing clothing, and while there is definitely use of actual clothing pieces it's mostly the Artisans and gives them a very appropriate Renaissance-era vibe-- for a world of artists, it's perfect. Coupled with the personality in their animations and expressions and the dragon redesigns are by and large phenomenal-- they really have a feeling that, if Insomniac hadn't been constrained by the system, it's very much what they would have done. (Given Toys for Bob seemed really keen on getting Insomniac's feedback on a lot of their designs, that's not a surprise.) I love the dragons from the original game, too-- given the limitations of the original Playstation they actually had a lot of personality in them, as well. I know they use only a few different base models but they really eked out the feel of each realm-- you could tell the Artisans apart from the Peace Keepers apart from the Beast Makers and Magic Crafters and Dream Weavers. Toys for Bob took that and really went above and beyond the call of duty in recreating them. There's just so much respect for the original work, you really feel the love that went into development. My only complaint is that the Peace Keepers don't have the same body type or semi-quadrupedal stance (or neat leopard spotting, although I saw the markings across some other dragon designs) of the originals. Peace Keepers were my favorite type of dragon as a child so it was a little disappointing to see the reimagining losing those particular aspects.... although the Peace Keepers still look fantastic. It's just such a joy to experience.

On one hand, I do really like how each dragon has been given a different model and have extra details added to them. I can't help but feel some of the delivery of the lines didn't quite match the original's though. Particularly with Spyro himself. I don't know, I can't help but feel Tom Kenny is kinda forcing a bit of his performance a bit, compared to Spyro's VA in 1 who whose delivery sounds a bit more natural. He still did a good job in 2 and 3's remakes, probably because he actually did Spyro in those games all those years ago.At that point, Spyro was slightly more mature and experienced, and I feel Tom Kenny portrayed that pretty well back then and now.

Spyro: September '98. Spyro was voiced by Carlos Alazraqui for one and Tom Kenny for Two: Ripto's Rage, Three: Year of The Dragon and reprised his role in the entire remastered trilogy, whilst Parappa was, apart from the anime, portrayed by Dredd/Dread Foxx.
