I love press-ons, they are so much healthier than any other nail enhancements like gel, dip or acrylic. However, as a nail tech, I don’t recommend pushing anything under your cuticles. Any nail treatment or service should never be painful, even if just for a day. If you push too far or knick yourself without realizing, you’re leaving that area exposed, with the dirt that will inevitably stick to the press on tape, there’s a potential risk of infection. Just my humble opinion, great video otherwise.

I somehow came across this video and I have to say "OUCH!!!! NO WAY!!!. Having been a nail tech for 25+ years, I have to say that shoving the fake nail under the cuticle line is a really bad idea. It hurts and is uncomfortable for a reason! The matrix of your nail is under there, you can see the edge of it as the half moon on your nail. If you damage that, you've damaged your nail for life. I can not recommend what she's doing in this video. I see many comments below about how using glue makes them just pop off fast, which is true. If you want a press on nail to last, use builder gel, poly gel or even a soak off gel to attach them to your nails. Clear, full cover tips (they have to be clear or close to it or the gel to cure) are all over out there and you can use those and just decorate them yourself. You can also fill them in as they grow out instead of shoving them up to your first knuckle and being in pain for a week. There are a ton of DIY Apres' dupe nails showing how to do this and yes, you might have to buy a small LED lamp but they aren't that expensive any more if you pick on up on E-Bay or Aliexpress, you can actually get everything that you'd need to use. This video, especially the shoving the nail under the cuticle edge is totally wrong. Some of you may disagree and that's fine, they are your nails, do with them what you please but honestly, shoving a plastic nail under and into your nail matrix is not good. That's why it hurts.

I love the "imPRESS" sticky nails, but even they will pop off pretty soon. I would usually have one or two that would pop off within a day. I started lightly filing the top of each nail after doing the steps you showed, but I also bought some glue at the Family Dollar store. It's the strongest glue I've ever used and it's cheap. It's from LA Colors. I apply a thin layer over the nail, put the fingernail on, then press/hold for about 15-20 seconds. This allows the glue from the nail to stick to the super strong regular glue and it's about 2 weeks before I notice any become loose and usually, only 2 or 3 become loose. They still don't fall off. I can then add a small amount of glue where it's loose and press them back on.

I started using a base gel polish instead of nail glue to attach them and it seals the edges better and cover with a topcoat which keeps out moisture and lifting. Hi, really nice video. I was on the fence for the longest time because in the package, the nails didn't look like they'd fit. But, I tried a box and was hooked. It's been a couple of years and rarely am I not wearing a set. Along with the ImPress, Dashing Diva makes nice press ons too although I do prefer the ImPress. Prep work is key although for me, I am not a fan of pushing back your cuticles. Instead, I still push the nail slightly under the cuticle and yeah, they really do look salon professional. I use a glass file because it's kinder to the edges of my nails when filing. Also, after I use the alcohol rub and my nails are dry, I lightly buff them with a light grit buffing block, then press each nail a full minute. It really helps the adhesive stick. Also do them at night before bed without getting my hands wet for about 8 hours. I can get 3 weeks but tend to switch them out after 2 and I usually wait 24 hrs before applying a new set.
@CrystalClues4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jilly - oooh I'll have to check out Dashing Diva. Good point on pushing the nail slightly under the cuticle. That's probably sufficient and won't hurt. I have a glass file that has lasted me a long time. More sustainable too. Pressing each nail a full minute is actually a good idea - I haven't tried that but I will! And good call on doing it before bed so that the tape can really stick and set. What length do you usually go for?
@jillyfae48954 жыл бұрын
@@CrystalClues Hi again, I have tried the newer medium length, but find they really are too long for daily activities, so I tend to go for the short which looks lovely and has a salon look to them. I do have several spare boxes of the medium and I wonder if the sides could be cut so the nail could be a ballerina or coffin shape. I will try that for the next set and let you know. I made the cuticle comment because I think what so many forget is the part of the nail where the cuticle is alive and growing, so over time, pushing back and or even cutting the cuticles could not only harm the skin and nail, but cause infection. Btw, really enjoying your channel. :)
@CrystalClues4 жыл бұрын
Jilly I usually wear medium too but the short sounds like the most long lasting because the edge is less likely to get caught on something. You have a strong point on not hurting the cuticles because you’re SO right, over time it can really affect how it grows... I’ll be honest I didn’t think about that so thanks for bringing that up Jilly. I tend to alternate between glue, bare nails, and the press ons. Do you use polish anymore or are you mostly done with that? Haha
@jillyfae48954 жыл бұрын
@@CrystalClues I don't wear medium as often, and the short are more long lasting. I type, do dishes, laundry etc, just don't put pressure on the tips, like open can tabs or open boxes. I do prefer the short length because without pushing your cuticles back, the nails even fitted in are long enough. I haven't used glue in over a year because it did damage my nails. Press on with adhesives....bare nails only to let them breathe a day or two. Otherwise ImPress or Dashing Diva only. If I am wearing a French manicure set I will use colored polish just on the white tip for something different.

I have been doing my own nails, using store bought press ons since I was old enough to use the glue lol. Manufacturers have come a long way since then and I love all the new stuff. HOWEVER the IMPRESS nails are NOT meant to be a nail extension. The material is MUCH softer than the normal KISS nails. DO NOT DO THIS! I followed this video and I super regret it. It’s been 2 years and my nail is still deformed. I wish this video would get taken down because it’s really bad information. I got mould forming under the nails which I couldn’t see obviously because I was trying to make them last and they were shoved under the cuticles. My nail was green for a month until it grew out again. This deterred me for ever messing with my nails again, but now my nail is just simply not smooth anymore.

This happened to me but it was my fault, I left my nails on too long and I don’t use dish gloves so dirty water got under the nail and form bacteria 🦠. Be careful not to blame someone else’s win for your mistake.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I had damage when i removed a gel-type nail from my thumb. After that started having permanent veetical split on my thumbnail. But the dermatologist said the gel nail and removal had nothing to do with it; it was a flaw that started naturally. Later I found out my Mom has a similar thing in the same thumb,so it'a apparently genetic. It was just timing that made the nail treatment seam to have caused it.

I put them under my cuticle too! Once you complete the dry manicure they are already have a space. That’s a good 1-2 weeks worth of real estate space there. Doesn’t hurt. You don’t jam them in there to the point of pain. It works. Trust me. No blood. No pain. Sensitive? A bit. If it hurts then move it up ever so slightly. I always use dehydrator. And glue. No tape.

"The line of crud" is your cuticle on your nail bed and you should not sea saw your natural nails with a nail file. You should file one way only. It allows water in as you break the seal of the nail and causes jazzed edges where the water is then absorbed and when it dries causes lifting and chipping like with chipboard.

Some of the nail brands are too flimsy and bend and break too easy but the gel ones are great. I find them at Walgreens or CVS. Think Walmart has them too… they run about $8-$11. I can’t use the tabs for some reason the jus lift right away and get my clients and my hair stuck underneath 🤷🏻♀️ maybe I’ll try the blow dryer and punch down like someone else said.

@CrystalClues3 жыл бұрын
Actually I tried this. About half of them come off (the tape can be slowly peeled away) but the other half end up a bit warped at the tips from all the jostling. The material is very thin - which makes for comfortable wear as intended but once you remove the tape it can become misshapen. But for the errant one or two that seem to not have stuck on to begin with, I think glue would be fine!

2 things: 1. Do not push a foreign object up under your cuticle. That is unsafe, and you’re just asking to damage your nail matrix. Damaging the matrix can lead to rough and abnormal nail growth for the rest of your life. 2. Do not keep nails like this on for a month. She told you that crud can get between the nails. Washing your hands will put water between the nails that can’t dry. You know who LOVES warm, moist areas? FUNGI and MOLD. Unless you want to end up with a case of onychomycosis that will cause your nail to thicken and turn yellow and possibly fall off, do not keep these on for more than a week or so.

Hey so can I use glue with the sticky stuff on the fake nails? Would it mess anything up?
@CrystalClues4 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. I wouldn’t put the glue between the sticky tape adhesive that comes with the nail. The tape is designed to adhere to a clean and dry nail bed. But sometimes what I’ve done is wear the nail until it pops off, and then I’ll gently scrape the tape off (it feels gummy and sort of like the adhesives you get on junk mail when they include stuff stuck to the paper.) Then if the nail isn’t too deformed or “lifted” looking on the edges, you could use glue on just the plastic part. But the nails are very soft and easily misshapen so as a heads up you have to be gentle or it might get bent out of shape during the removal process.
@courtneygreen19024 жыл бұрын
I wear the Impress nails and I create a double bond when applying them... so I peel off the plastic paper covering the adhesive on the nail and then I use the Kiss brand brush on nail glue on my real nail and lay the Impress nail down hold for 15 seconds and viola. Hope that helps!

I just tried your technique last night and am hoping my results are as good as yours. I do have 2 cuticle areas that were a little sore this morning but are better this afternoon. I love these nails and have gotten 2 weeks wear but a month would be incredible! I am so happy you don’t have to file the top of your nails because that is one reason mine are ruined from filing before gluing on nails. Then there is the whole process of removing them with acetone. Impress nails have the strongest glue I have ever used and are the most awesome nails ever! I just wish they would have more solid colors that are just plain.
