It changed the game to make it more "competitive" and adding competitive mode for TF2 (the piece of shit 6s instead of Highlander, and using the terrible 5CP mode at that). This included absolute destruction of casual mode for a while (because you literally had to wait a long time to find a game), but even after fixing that soon there was - you got penalized, IN CASUAL, for leaving and no one would be filled in. There was no autoballance as well. They fixed most of the stuff above, but haven't fixed the following : They removed Ad Hoc connecting from server browser (which meant you can't go back to the server you left, neither your friends can join your game in progress), removed team scramble and map change/extend vote (kinda reintroduced it again but it's limited to selection of 3 and still requires a fucking reload of the map even if you vote the same map).

CSGO already has its own weird equivalent to portals IMO. Just look at nuke, the verticality of the map does basically the same thing by making a super shortcut between two otherwise extremely distant parts of the map. (think back to when the vent came out over the scaffolding on site) Oh and I love the thumbnail!
