Did this series ever continue? I'm reading the book for the first time and have found these videos a very helpful companion.

I didn't see this video. . . . Lol. . Well it is really really awesome and gives me more insight into my own prophesy experiences. Thank you, Paul.

Dr. Jung's spiritual world was certainly in alignment with traditional Christianity in the sense that what he demonstrated is that The God-Image (The Self) could not empirically be distinguished from the metaphysical God, which is what Theologians talk about. As he explained, previously we had a religious formula for everything that we find in the Psyche. He definitely was able to prophesy. This is covered at Pp. 175-176 of Memories, Dreams, Reflections, which I know you are reading, and which is a direct parallel to your comments about John Brown, and beginning at Pp. 123- 125 of The Red Book, Reader's Edition. The events to which I point were Dr. Jung's discovery of the Collective Unconscious, which was certainly at work during Biblical times.

I've not heard a lot of traditional Christians agree that Jung's spiritual world is in alignment with traditional Christianity. I believe that Jung believed it was, but we usually look for broader consensus for something like this.

Well that may well be because Theologians and Freudians attacked Jung's thinking for the last century, so I would be very surprised if you had heard very much at all until the last 5 years, perhaps the last 10 if you were attentive. BUT, the appeal of Dr. Jung's ideas is finally catching on, perhaps because Jordan Peterson, as a differently named interlocutor, is catching a new generation of thinkers, whose attitudes have not been poisoned. Further, even I did not realize until last summer, that Jungian Analysts themselves kept Dr. Jung's writing on Christian issues hidden away--apparently because they felt they had to project their fledgling new profession from attack by Theologians. For example, the people who assembled the Collected Works of C.G. Jung and his Collected Letters (2 volumes), apparently selected out some of the most poignant letters related to this topic. This is perfectly demonstrated by Dr. Edward Edinger's book _The New God-Image_, which discussed Dr. Jung's perspective through 14 letters--7 of which do not appear in Collected Letters of C.G. Jung, and though they may be in the Collected Works, they are stashed in Volume 18, where few would ever tread--not because of fear, but because of the shear immensity of Dr. Jung's intellect. Your very interest in Jordan Peterson's work proves the appeal of what he was saying, so you might as well go to the source. As for Dr. Peterson's "agnosticism," I believe what you are hearing is the traditional Jungian Analyst bias to always say that they are talking about The God-Image in the psyche, the deepest Archetype, which is demonstrable empirically by Psychologists, while they claim that they are not talking about the metaphysical God. This bias is apparently a professional courtesy extended to Theologians, because both Dr. Jung and most of them do say that human beings can't differentiate between The God-Image (The Self) and the metaphysical God. We attorneys call that a distinction without a difference. Also, it ignores the fact that the Psyche itself is metaphysical, and that essentially everything we know about psychology comes from metaphysical constructions. But picky picky ....

So your observation is fair enough, but my observation is that the Carl Jung Depth Psychology Facebook page had about 4,000 members when I joined it about 2005, and today that number is well over 60,000, so there is simply no question that you are going to be hearing a lot more about Dr. Jung in Theological settings going forward, for better or for worse. Your efforts here are no doubt useful, at least for you, because forewarned is forearmed. People who understand what Dr. Jung was saying, like me (to my limited extent), are the jungle creepers that Theologians will need to deal with going forward. As I've said before, it is best to think about how Christianity can revivify by integrating with Dr. Jung's work, because it's far too late to put a finger in the dike that has been failing since Nietzsche.

Looking forward to learning about Lewis. Although I'm an Anglican I am ultra ignorant about him. Read "Great Divorce" and "Screwtape" years ago. That's it.

I'm re-reading Alan Jacob's book "the Narnian" and loving it all over again. I read it a decade ago and like it even better now. www.amazon.com/Narnian-Life-Imagination-C-Lewis-ebook/dp/B000FCKH7O

Hey, I am commenting on this video because it is the latest. I just watched the interview with Jordan Peterson with Patrick Coffin and it was funny even before it started I was like "we are going to have to really wait until he hits the new testament". Now, you have to pay attention to the words Peterson uses. He says that the metaphysical and literal can overlap and that is a miracle and be believes that happens. So he believes in miracles. Now, listen to the last part of his answer about the resurrection, he goes on about how he would have to think about that for 3 more years and etc and a great part of this thinking will be when he lectures on them. Now, what are his lecture doing? Well, he is speaking out loud and interactively with an audience trying to figure this out... Figure out what??? The psychological importance of the biblical stories. at 37:50 HIS ANSWER ENDS with "But I don't know enough about it (the resurrection) to say anything more than I've said PSYCHOLOGICALLY. That last word tells you exactly what he is answering. He is not saying if he personally believes the resurrection is true. He is talking about what he would say from a psychological perspective. Again, I am telling you, he is not going to use faith to put forth any biblical answers...that is not what his work is. That is YOUR work. :P

Hi Paul--Love your JBP stuff, I'm a regular of yours. However, I think that the very short format 30 minute videos don't work as well for me as the longer format. I have a KZbin Red subscription, and when I download your videos, they get in reverse order. Then when looking them up, I can't see the "version number" you're using to refer to the proper order, since it tends to be at the end of a long description that only appears AFTER I click on and start the video. But that's KZbin's fault, not yours. So it takes some clicking around to find which one I need to hear next. If I just go off a playlist, it uses bandwidth for everything, and I'm pretty sure that's regardless of whether I've downloaded the episode in advance on Wifi. On the other hand, downloaded videos don't do a good job of keeping my place as I move from home to office, so that involves some random clicking around, also. Keep up the good work, thanks to your church for letting you do this.

Thanks for the input. That's helpful. I too get frustrated with getting YT to play in the order I want them sometimes. I'll likely make both long and short as we go forward. i think YT Red is the way to go, no ads and you can turn off the visual on the smartphone and let it play in the background but I know not everyone has it, and it is possible that its not available in every country. About half my audience is in the US so it's complicated. Thanks again for the feedback.

I don’t believe Dr Heiser asserts that Ancient Israelites were henotheists, although a surface understanding of his work might cause one to conclude that. Henotheism, by definition, *permits* the worship of other gods-usually within a given pantheon, but reserves worship for a particular god who is considered the highest. This is much more similar to Greeks who had Patron gods of their cities that they worshipped over the others in the pantheon, even Zeus. What Heiser puts forth is sometimes called a divine council worldview, which is not a pantheon. Yahweh is not ontologically similar to the other divine beings in this council. They are mostly unnamed and most definitely created by Yahweh. One might think of them as angels, and later Christians would use these terms, but most of the OT refers to them as gods (elohim) or sons of god. Some people say “heavenly host” because it sits better with them. Some in the council rebel and are condemned (Psalm 82). But Yahweh most certainly does NOT permit the worship of other gods (first commandment) and, in fact, a good potion of the OT is devoted to prophets trying to get Israel to worship the One True God. This does not even begin to explain Heiser’s work, but I wanted to clarify that he is absolutely not henotheist or would assert that Israel was (though maybe, in practice, since they often turned to other gods, they were, but that was obviously not “allowed” as it would be in a truly henotheistic society.)

One of these days I need to get around to doing a video on the Bible, revelation and culture. These are extremely difficult questions to work on.
