It's solid and clear that Valve removed the moveable props in CSGO to make it more competitive-like. That was the goal when the game was released after all. CS Source still fun to play with the props flying all over the map and such. Both define what FPS games are like, in competitive and casual scenarios respectively.

@@Leopardipzg Totally agree, even with older and simple assets and maps, CSS felt more alive and fun. You even had custom Warcraft servers which made it crazy fun. Actually that simplicity (no excess of assets to try to make it realistic), the more vibrant map colours, is what makes it still more appealing to me. CSGO just feels bland in every sense: the generic corny menus, the "wannabe" realistic maps crowded with assets making some maps almost totally distinc to originals, the dull colour palette in most maps, gun sounds, radio commands... It doesn't even feel like a Source Engine game (like other like L4D, Portal or CSS did), it feels like they tried to aesthetically copy on COD/Battlefield, the FPS games everyone played by 2011-2012, trying to go for realism in a bad way, but crimping physics like the video shows. Ironically the only thing they truly put effort in were in the skins, which makes it even less appealing to me, and probably the only reason why it's still so successful today. All in all it doesn't feel like any top games Valve delivered till then.

Many of these things that CS:S does more realistically do not belong in a modern competitive game. This especially applies for moving dead bodies and props around the map, allowing you to hide the bomb or hide yourself behind them. The problem is that these props don't match up on multiple people's screens (in CS:GO, even the bodies end up in different places for different people). It was previously possible to move certain props, but the feature was mostly removed and kept only for some props that aren't likely to interfere in competitive scenarios. Breaking props and glass is the same thing, and was changed for the exact same reason (for example the glass could theoretically appear cracked and therefore not see through from one side, and completely see through from the other side, or the holes in it would be in different places, etc.). Another reason is that these props, if moved, could block players from coming through without moving the object from their path, or slowing them down/intefering during aim duels (which could make a difference between winning or losing a round). Some minor things, such as lowering the amount of particles, non moving door handles, despawning bullet shells, magazines, etc., were all adjusted to optimize the game to run on slower PCs. They were details hardly anyone would notice and that were not important for gameplay. Custom sprays were removed for two reasons. Firstly, the sprays we got became an item with limited use, allowing the developers to monetize it. And secondly, perhaps more importantly, to stop people from spraying whatever they want. These days, many things are obviously less acceptable than 10 years ago, and with more people playing and more attention on the game, they had to make sure people won't be spraying bad language, including racial or sexually themed slurs, excessive gore, sexually explicit pictures, or even copyrighted material, etc., especially since the game is very popular among kids too. The ability to kill hostages was removed for two reasons. Firstly, a bit of censorship, since killing unarmed civilians doesn't look good when the game is being age rated, and secondly, to avoid people griefing by killing the hostages. Certain features, such as the flashlight and nightvision, were not included because they simply aren't necessary. The official maps were all always much brighter than the ones in CS:S, meaning such items wouldn't be used (hardly any more serious player used them in the older games). On community servers, where the flashlight may be useful, it's often available due to being modded in. One thing I would really appreaciate is the sites being destroyed by bomb explosions and even catching on fire (in that part of the round, it no longer matters, especially if the destruction doesn't exceed into the blast survivable area, therefore only affects the area where it would deal 100+ damage).

They can fix that without scrapping large gameplay mechanics. That's the very lazy solution. They can prevent you from planting in an area if a prop is in the way, so you would need to move it away. This justification of removing the physics is so petty and unreasonable.
@tatotaytoman59342 жыл бұрын
@@user-s9eu8ce9fw ?? why would physics matter in Counterstrike, it is a very competitive game and it must be as free from random environmental factors and potentially more glitches as the original comment said, additionally I think that counter strike source is lazier in that regard as they did not bother to counter for this fact and simply placed source props around the map . Additionally most of the "detailed features" in counter strike source aren't because of counter strike source, they are just features of the source engine which means the developers didn't add these in on purpose.

CSGO with CSS physics would have been fun for arms race and the other casual modes. Although they probably could have just made this a toggle switch so we could just choose if we wanted physics or not that way both crowds are happy. Unfortunately with CS2, it doesn’t look like they want to go that way. So piracy it is. It’s a shame that the game I bought for $15 back in 2016 is now a free to play barbie game, but I didn’t pay for my cops and robbers game to be vandalized by con artists. Lesson learned.

@Shidera57212 жыл бұрын
Many of the things showcased in this video, especially everything that includes altering/moving props around the map is something i highly appreciate of beeing removed in CSGO. Sure it is kinda fun at times to shoot boxes or drawers around and use them for cover, but it's absolutely terrible from a competitive PoV, this was recognized in the CSS proscene back then already and many of the "promod" versions of the maps had fixed static props to counter said issues. That's also something i really appreciated in Valorant, even tho i don't like it as much as CSGO and i'm not playing it (anymore), i need to admit it does some things absolutely right, they intentionally chose the artstyle to be able to create a modern looking shooter without unnecessary eye candy in the maps etc (it tosses some of this out of the window tho by adding weapon skins with vastly differantiating models and animations/sounds, yikes).
@EnduroNerd2 жыл бұрын
100% agree. The other issue is when lots of players are moving stuff around, the game clients have to be kept in sync which introduces potential lag. Also, movable props could greatly increase the likeliness of exploits within the game caused by glitching items.
@itch4332 жыл бұрын
I can agree about moving props such as barrels - they're very inconsistent and janky to collide against. Might be cool to see them reworked into an intentional game mechanic, but if that's not possible, removing is the way to go. But I feel like a lot of the other eye candy stuff that was removed wasn't all that annoying, such as falling paintings and other small objects. They don't even have to be synced, for example L4D2 uses a lot of small destroyable clutter that is handled completely client-side (meaning it should technically be possible to have it optional in your settings). There are also some bigger objects that do get synced, but simply have collision turned off such as small chairs (and walking through them surprisingly feels quite intuitive). I just really dislike how in a lot of modern shooters literally everything is glued on and fake - I understand wanting visibility and consistency for competitive play, but having zero reaction from the environment really worsens the game feel for me. But I also agree that art style matters and it works much better for games like Valorant or TF2 compared to realistic military shooters.

You just gotta appreciate how unique every counter-strike game is, despite it might seem that every game in the franchise has just been a copy-paste from the other with updated graphics. In CS 1.6 you had this classic experience with insane recoils and paper walls that made up for some insane plays (also with probably the best dual elites), in Condition-Zero you had the single-player campaigns with detail radio comunication and amazing graphics for it's time, in Source you had the whole reactive environment with some neat interactions and details, and in CS:GO you have the best-looking game with a very competitive focus and seasonal content to be stuck to it, and the best part is that you can experience any of this games with the certainty that they have an active and big playerbase.
