0:00 Things to consider for lowering input lag
2:08 Video Options
Check for FPS, GPU utilization and CPU temperature
Hardware
Highest Frame Rate - Lowest Lag (though high heat and noise)
100% GPU Usage - More Lag (GPU busy)
less than 100% GPU Usage - Less Lag (ideal)
(better to keep GPU Usage below 95% or so for headroom)
Software FPS limiter (increases lag by reducing FPS)
In-game FPS limiter - More Lag (broken), reduced 1% FPS (fluctuation)
RTSS FPS limiter - More Lag
nVidia FPS limiter - More Lag
Radeon Chill - More Lag
Radeon FRC - (a lot) More Lag
V-Sync - (a lot) More Lag
Driver
Anti-lag(+) - More Lag
Reflect - (negligible) More or Less Lag (depends on the game)
Throttling GPU by clock or power level - GPU usage increases
Then, throttle CPU
1. launch option "-threads [number]"
2. power limit
3. thermal limit (from BIOS, PBO or thermal throttling)
1 is not fully utilizing all the cores for high FPS
2 hard to measure power level (core? combined? PPT? etc)
3 is relatively easy to configure in bios (limit core clock though)
I tried here 63 deg to see GPU usage, I would lower further eg. 60 degrees or so
Depending on one's hardware, environment and setting, different number will apply, so try to maintain GPU usage 80-90%, 1 & 3 can be combined to use as well as in-game max_fps for low 1% FPS increase. (it still uses more GPU time to time for smokes and molly or many players, get some headroom)
Tried 1440x1080 4:3 (stretched) 330 Hz, crosshair on monitor,
Launch option -nojoy
Recorded 120fps AV1 using the same GPU
7800X3D (FCLK 2200MHz, SMT off, CO -30 to -45 per core)
8000MHz RAM (36-45-45-48-45-480, PDM off, GDM on)
VDD = 1.45V, VDDQ = VDDIO = 1.34V
RX 7900 XT (stock)
P.S. Setting for high FPS - Upgrade HW :)
P.P.S RAM OC keeps 1% low FPS high (tighten 1st, 2nd & 3rd timings !!!)
P.P.P.S Limiting GPU core clock, so that overall GPU power consumption is 60-75%, is sweet spot for heat, noise and performance. Companies overclock too much to win competition :(
my 7900xt for cs2 (used free Unigine Heaven DX11) is
[Core clock: doesn't matter much, no limit, I set 2650-3000MHz]
[Vram: 2650MHz, no fast timing] (RDNA2 cards had best score when +120MHz or so VRAM about 6%+ eg. RX6800XT)
[Fan: max 40%] (considering noise)
[Power: +10%]
