Using the phase voltage results in the 1200VA originally worked in the example. The 3600VA is the total 3 phase apparent power that the source would need to produce. While the 1200VA is the power per phase.

At 2:55 you said that "1200 / Sin (30°) you would end up...with 600 VARs" I think you meant 1200 * sin (30°) = 600.
