My 2 cents - it really does not matter what branch you enroll in. Just be passionate about something and understand the concepts. I graduated with a mechanical engineering degree (45 years back) and never worked in that branch. Spent my entire career in financial services and did very well.

Only advantage in mechanical is that if you manage to land job in design or R&D, your job is generally secured and you will probably keep getting opportunities even after retirement. But your career will only take off after the age of 30. Advantage for Circuital branches are quick growth and early retirement possible. But long career may not be possible in these area as your skills become obsolete every 5 years, this doesn't happen in mechanical or core branches.

It's My advice not to take ECE /ETC branch unless you are interested in Core Sector/subjects.... If you are not getting cse,it branch bcz of low percentile then don't take ECE branch just for the sake of degree... ( My personal experience...Already regretting that I took ETC)

you should first give them the reality of tier 1/tier 2 /and tier 3 colleges in india if someone is getting mech in tier 1 and he or she chooses cse in tier 2 that would be completely a wrong decision most of the companies in tier 2 or tier 3 are having very much limited resources and hardly any companies visit campus it is better irrespective of your branch choose tier 1 if you are getting anything then tier2 or then tier 3 (the problem with tier 3 is most ppl get admitted through management quota so the peer group which justifies tier1 or some part of tier 2 gives a complete waste of opportunity during 4 years of engineering journey so better choose a college with tag and u will definitely achieve heights in your respective field of career) sab ko hi cse padhna hai toh job market aise hi rahegi cse in tier 1 tier 2 or tier 3 is very different a college tag matters. This is completely a wrong mindset

Mechanical engineering is for applied maths & physics lover, i.e who loves solving tough problems from calculus, analytical geometry (2D + 3D), trigonometry, algebra, classical mechanics, thermodynamics, vibrational mechanics, kinematics, etc. If anybody is very much passionate about those fields and has good enough efficiency to solve all toughest problems from those subjects then he/she should definitely go for mechanical engineering. Atleast he/she can easily defeat 90%+ of cs students and 95%+ of ece students after completing ug/pg from any college.

Sir you are a respectable man, but you don't have any rights to say anything about particular branch. Sir if that branch is not good then answers my particular question 1) Why colleges is not closing particular branch? 2)Why companies are giving placement to the students from such a branch & also it going time of recession why sir? 3)Why government & PSU are hiring students passout from such branch? 4)Why some of the colleges are allowing for doing Masters & Research to students pass out from such branches? Why sir why? As per me all branch should have same importance because every branch have its unique benefits & losses. Hence such a words was not expected. And last but not least all students have there own dreams & I am final year student and I have seen that 95% students are interested completely in core. If my words hurted anyone then sorry But every branch is important!!!
