Why glucose normal in viral meningitis??

Virus cannot use glucose

The mechanism is not completely clear, but there are many possible explanations, including alterations in the blood-brain barrier, increased consumption of glucose by leucocytes and bacteria, and increased rate of cell metabolism in bacterial versus viral meningitis.
