Bought this in black, a 5-string (leftie) bass for my absolute beginner self. Took it to my local music shop for a setup and they had to do almost nothing to it, so HB did indeed send me a very well-setup bass. The frets are smooth, the weight of the body sufficient to prevent the neck-dive so prevalent in cheapo basses. I cannot recommend it enough for anyone on a budget.

That alliteration in the beginning though. Yay The Chain! So a walnut board with 24 frets, active controls, mini humbuckers and individual bridge saddles? That price for a bass with those features is surprising, let alone with the other gear you get with it.

Quick technique tip: anchor your right thumb on the string above the one you're playing (and on the pickup, like you're doing, when playing the E string). It will make for better hand position and also helps muting the top strings. Great video, by the way. Glad to see you embracing the marvelous world of bass :D sounds like a great kit, especially love the D.I'd tone you got from the amp. Very versatile.

I have the left handed B550 5 string and you know what, it's a bass. Although a little unpleasing to the eye, it's packed with features and plays fairly well. The looks have grown on me over time but I wish they has made it in white as well since black is the last thing I want at this point. It has a nice round tone and I love playing bouncy J-Pop lines on it. For only like $200 it's a good deal for a backup, or for me as someone who mainly records and just has it as an option.

I was already gonna comment as a bassist with about 15 years under my belt that your slap technique, while unorthodox, gives you a chorus effect that’s not altogether unpleasant, but then dammit if you didn’t win me over playing my favorite band of all time, and decently. +1 for Schism. I have the 5 string fretless version of this bass and I agree that they're very good instruments, the only problems I had with mine were a slightly uneven fingerboard causing buzz in some areas and the preamp sounding a bit muddy compared to the clearer but quieter passive setting, although replacing the strings with Elixir steels helped with that. Timing is a little bit off on schism, but tool is quite hard to get right especially on Bass. I bought the 5-String variant of this Bass used for 100€ including a high quality gig bag, and the guy I bought it from actually put some work into the frets, as they supposedly were quite rougth when he first got it. An all out nice instrument, but somehow Harley Benton Bass guitars are overall better made than some of their guitars. This really boils down to the mechanics, as the ones on some guitars tend to get out of tune quite rapidly just from opening the window, but bass strings seem to need higher quality mechanics anyway, but thats a matter of string gauge. Keep it coming and MOAR TOOL PLS!!!

I've been playing guitar for some years now and been thinking of getting a bass just to sometimes do some funky shit, and this bundle for this price seems like the perfect thing for me! You're not investing a ton of money so even if the bass playing will remain a secondary thing it's not going to feel like you've wasted your money, but on the other hand getting the shittiest bass and worst amp would kill off any enthusiasm for the instrument from the get-go, something this combo most certainly didn't seem to do for you, and most probably won't do for me.

Strandberg's neck wasn't that great to me. Not quite comfortable for bending around the middle part of the fretboard. That's a great bang for the buck! Or maybe in for a pound for just pennies? This is a pretty advanced bass for the money. I think this is a great package for the money. For gigging out on bass you are going to want to get a amp that pushes more than 200 watts to be over the kick bass drum (I once had a Ampeg Rocketbass amp that was 100 watts and got great tone but was always drowned out by the drums.) I could also recommend a Precision or Jazz style bass after this. Mainly because they really set the standards by which most basses can be measured. Also there are a ton of aftermarket parts that will improve quality without heavy modification to that instrument. This HB bass is going to be best left alone and maybe upgrade the strings to D'Addario NYXLs. This bass and amp combo is great and will get you gigging but within a few years you will want to upgrade. Collin...great job on the video! I too am a guitar player first however I do get asked to play bass all the time. Its good to do that because it improves your rhythm and makes it way easier to play guitar. In fact my solid body guitars have 11 gauge strings and my hollow bodies have 12s and I mainly attribute this as a byproduct of playing bass. Also acoustics are easier too. Keep it up! You actually sound good for a starting bass player! Cheers!!!😎👍👍

I'd be here all day if I were to announce everything I do that isn't 'paid for'. So if you don't see the little 'contains paid product placement' tag on the video, then there isn't any paid product placement. Ultimately it doesn't matter because companies pay for the airtime, not for what is contained in the video. I have a lot of videos to make, so my time becomes valuable. If companies want their product on the channel they have to afford my time. However it is to no advantage for them, or me, to promote a bad product. It damages the integrity of both parties and that is mutually understood. Going forward you will see a lot more 'paid for' content (this is now my full time job), but that will always be on the understanding that I have full creative control and will veto any product I deem not fit for purpose.
