I've got a buddy that uses the G3 on a low gain setting out front and runs the G4 in the FX loop, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me but it sounds absolutely insane.

Thanks, these things get better with practice. Always trying to improve the sound captured. I've just never been happy with using IRs for this stuff, it's a great convenience to record silently and in a mix you wouldn't know the difference, but I just prefer to put a mic against a speaker myself.

That black V looks phenomenal. I have a black Hamer Vector with chrome hardware and white binding and all I want to do now is to put black hardware on that thing.

They both sound so good. The Laid to Rest shootout spoke volumes about both pedals, but it really is hard to choose between the two. The g4 sounds like it might be better in a mix than the g3, but I'm sure that if you threw an eq behind the g3 you might be able to boost that high end enough to give it the kick it needs. The g3 tone you had was a very solid rhythm tone though!

I just saw this, I use this straight through my FX loop completely avoiding the preamp while using a mooer Radar, I get great results from it.

Maybe it's because he played it slightly wrong? He added to random chugs at the beginning of the riff, which made it confusing to listen to.

@@MetalMarauder yeah, there's a lot wrong with the way he plays this riff. But I think the reason it reminds him of Doom is the two chugs in the beginning. With no extra context, those sound like they are on one, where the the high E is actually on one in painkiller. The doom theme song however, starts with two low chugs.

Great review and I see that you have already made a few changes on the V, looking great. Were you going to keep the all black scratch plate or go with one that is black with white on the edges? Perhaps some wicked black anodized metal one? Also what ever happened to the '75 Ibanez Rocket Roll Sr? Would love to see that beauty again in a video if at all possible. Catch you on the next one. Yea, the G4 is much better. The older "classic" sound is what I like more. The new sound is good too, but I prefer the old metal sound with my own twist on it

Question here: How shitty would this sound if I attempted to play with my SG to the pedal to the power amp on my Fender Ultra Chorus. I mean, would it work? Could I chug with it? Can I those sick metal tones? I already know how to EQ and all. Scooped mids, lots of bass, gain at max. If I do this will I sound like my favorite metal bands?

The G3 sounds a slightly more modern (but slightly more tamed). It is also WAY more mid present. If you are looking for the classic "old" tones, I'd go for the G3. The G4 sounds akin to something I'd hear on a record today. It almost sounds like it could be an amp sim. So if you want the high end, modern, aggressive distortion, get the G4.
