Man I haven't watched CSI in years but I remembered this scene today and I had to watch it again. I can't believe it has been 12 years. Yes, the guy talking to Warrick was Jeffrey McKeen. McKeen tried to set Warrick up for the murder of a mafia boss, Gedda, but Warrick found out there was a mole in the LVPD (he didnt know it was McKeen), and b/c Warrick wasn't going to let the mole get away, McKeen shot and killed him. But, Grissom finds out about McKeen and he gets what's coming to him in season 9.

@@whitewolf506 Having checked the number of viewers by season, season 8, which was the season this episode was in, had the lowest number of viewers out of all of the seasons that featured the original cast (plus Sara, considering she didn't come along until the 2nd episode in season 1). Sara left in the first half of this season, which probably contributed to the decline in viewers. Additionally, Gary Dourdan (who played Warrick) had some drug charges back in 2008 (same year as his departure). The media claims that his contract not being renewed wasn't because of the charges, since he had already finished filming his final scenes of the show beforehand. However, the way I think about it is if he was getting into that sort of activity around the time, the producers may have gotten suspicious. A lot of contracts have a moral clause in them. With there having been a CSI revival rumored, it sucks they can't bring him back since they killed him, but I actually liked the story plot leading up to his death and then the suspense that everyone was left hanging with until the next season's premiere. I remember watching this scene when this episode originally aired and thinking it was unique. But to answer the original question, it's for killing 2 birds with one stone; needing to do something drastic to bring viewers back and cutting ties with Gary Dourdan if they were becoming suspicious of him.

@@rebeccagoodnight96 that's great. Greg was a good guy. But he was not my favorite character. He was a needy little mama's boy, an element that his character I wish had not been part of the show. You can't blame people for walking away from a show when the best characters in the cast leave it. I did the same thing when Jason Gideon, character from the early seasons of Criminal Minds, left the show. Once he was gone, no one could ever replace him. Same reason I never went over to Boston Legal when its predecessor show ended. Even if they did come back for a final appearance or something, it still doesn't erase the fact that they are not part of the regular cast.

When Warwick died, I stop watching the show, after I saw the next episode, when Grissom cries at his funeral... A grown man in tears - I could identify with Warwick on so many levels and his whole presence on the show-was the glue that held the team together- Grissom was a true leader-father figure-awesome role model-throw in Catherine, Nick, who was just a passionate, all around good guy- his loyalty and devotion, like the rest of the crew-was to the team ( which became his 2nd family) then theirs Sara, Gregg, The Doc, and some really sexy than a MF CSI workers - I have to admit- miss the whole crew and the original crew

Warrick along with Nick and Russell were probably one of the few major characters in the CSI Franchise, Warrick would easily be recognizable as the main guys. If someone brought up the show, we'd all think about Warrick so easily as he had his mini fro and all. Papouli, Dumbledore (in the book) & Warrwick Brown - I will never forget the first time I cried for these deaths. Even just thinking about the Papouli episode makes my heart hurt and eyes well up, I was 10 when that episode aired.. It's been 24 years but it still hurts the same way it hurts when I think about my gramma who was more like my best friend/sister who's past. For HP I was reading the book on Christmas vacation at my other grammas place at 21 & felt so stupid crying I came out of the room and asked if it was ok that I was crying so hard over a death in a book and I don't think I've ever seen my mom and gramma more in love with me. "Oh of course my dear!! That's good you're that into it, you cry all you want it's ok" and then for this.. I had always felt for the character, all the original characters actually, had watched the series from its conception (16 yrs old) and idk it just broke my heart. You get excited to see their faces every day at that age, you get connected really easily and quickly, or, at least I did and I *very literally* grew up with them. anyway.. Idk what instigated all this tonight but I just wanted to share.
