Sonoff Zigbee Mini: turning regular switches smart with Zigbee

Magic from 05:48 ... physical swith is OFF, but app can turn the light ON (and OFF). Cool. Thanks to the pull-up resistor in the Sonoff Zigbee Mini ... so the physcial switch status/action is just a *signal* to the Sonoff Zigbee Mini (and not acting like a real power switch). Thanks for the video!

Yes it is. And therefore the physical position of the switch (whether it is up or down), will not be in line with the state of the light.

I saw written that ZBmini works with Google Assistent. I never got Zigbee working in Google Assistent. I never found a video on KZbin where I saw Zigbee working with Google Assitent. Maybe you could make a video where Zigbee devices working with Google Assistent.

You need a zigbee controller/hub. e.g. smartthings. GA doesn't have a built in zigbee hub.

Yes of course. Probably the only issues if if you have enough space for the mini behind the socket. They tend to be deeper than a regular light switch.

Nekem van egy 'zárt' (értsd csak a kinti kapcsolónál tudok hozzáférni a vezetékhez meg a kapcsoló szekrényben) kültéri lámpa amit távolról akarok vezérelni. Van nekem máshol sonoff RF 433. Congratulations for your channel. An easy query for you.... From the entrance of the house to the garage we had a button to open the automatic garage door, I had to replace this button with a switch (there are no buttons for this model, don't ask me why) and I have a couple of Sonoff Zbmini for that is what I want to use and would like to know if it is possible for this ZBMini to act as a button to activate the door in case of any change in the state of the switch. I am using zigbee3mqtt in home assistant. I imagine that with node-red it can be done but I still haven't finished understanding node-red and I'm still very new in home automation. Please can you give me some idea? 🙏 Thank you.

Thanks. I have not tested the zigbee mini with Zigbee2mqtt or ZHA, but I am pretty sure it can be done. It just need to be configured not to toggle the output, but only to generate a short pulse.

Good video. If wiring a new room/house is it best to use this switch and does it have to be located behind the switch. If it is located at the switch then you will have a lot of cables coming to the switch especially if you connect two manual switches. (power in and power out, cable to the light, cable to the next switch) What is best practice? Easier to access if it is behind the switch?

I don't think there is a best practice. In an existing house, behind the switch is the obvious place. You will always have two wires to the switch and back, and you can reduce those if those are close.

Yes, of course. But there is also a Zigbee Basic, that does not have a switch input. That could be cheaper, so check that as well.

Im using these two in garage and put switches ring like without fixation (click) to avoid the switch to be off and lights are on situation( dissynchronization) and im facing that if i turn lights pressing the switch instantly all is good, if i click it for a half second more, they turn on and after release lights turn off ( switch processes it like another impulse) Any way to deal with this issue? Any settings or hardware hacks about that?

I don't know. I am assuming it is connected directly to the microcontroller pins, or maybe via a opto isolator. If anything it could be on logic level 3.3V, but maybe it is just left floating, and when the swich is on, it is connected to ground.

Yes, the only issue if you use the phone and physical switch as well, the position of the physical switch (if it is up or down) will no longer reflect the state of the light.

No, unfortunately. This mini has only one output, and blinds usually require two output, one for up and the other is down.

Good question. I would say that if that ecosystem have similar zigbee sensors (like motion sensors, door sensors), there is a very good chance that they will work.

You can replace the regular switch with this smart switch and control a LED strip. But this switches mains voltage, so the LED driver/power supply is to be connected after the switch.

Exactly the same way. Press on the button for more than 5 (10?) seconds and it goes into pairing mode. After that you should be able to add it to SmartThings.

I don't own a Hue zigbee hub. I tried pairing the Sonoff zigbee devices to a Tuya Zigbee Bridge and all worked except one. I think the Zigbee bridge is a generic device and that has the highest chance of working with any Zigbee bridge.

@@csongorvarga Ewelink is NO Google Assitent. Show any Zigbee device working with vioce in Google Assitent with normal gateway (Tuya, Sonoff. NOT Smartthings aso). When you see the device in Google Assistent, you see the icon with setting wheel that's all.
