As a middle aged native Georgian, I am comforted that Carter lived just long enough for any debate that he was the worst President in modern American history to be completely rejected by the American people in Nov 2024. I always thought Jimmy got a bad rap as President, clearly he wasn’t great, but he was honest and not corrupt. In my lifetime he and Trump are the only 2 presidents who didn’t use the Oval Office exclusively to enrich themselves by destroying the American middle class. My sincerest condolences to the Carter Family. He and First Lady Rosalyn are reunited agin.........married 77 years. We, the older generation watched Amy grow in the White House and to see the genuine love between Father and Daughter was needed in the 70s. President Carter foused on people who really needed help, the help that World Leaders didn't provide to their citizens. Medicines, clean drinking water, etc. Where would Habitat for Humanity be without Jimmy Carter? Thank you President Carter for your humanity and for bringing Egypt and Israel to working together. Let’s remember the positives and possibilities Carter made possible with his short time in office. I never thought I’d mourn as I have about a previous president passing away, but his humanity is what moves me most. His overall way of being while still being a leader of one of the most powerful nations in the world helps me re-realise that you don’t need to be loud and bombastic and ham-fisted to make difference. Jimmy Carter was one of our finest leaders and he was a great president. Many people today will echo others who have stated that Jimmy Carter was not a good president but that's because they didn't know him. I cannot claim to have known him but I do know that he was so honorable he would not and could not follow those who engaged in behaviors abhorrent to him. NO other person or president could have brought Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat together as he did. His humanity was first and foremost. He cared for all people. Many will blame him for the failure of the hostage situation in Iran. A complex issue further compounded by the collapse of the Shah's government and the return to power of Ayatollah Khomeini. He was a fine man.

It's no wonder he lived to be 100 years old, and Rosalynn lived to be 96. He was a man who genuinely loved his country, and throughout his life, he kept working...and working...and working. All around the world, he created a lasting legacy that will be unrivaled. He was certainly the most decent man that took office.
