Meguiar's M205 Polish: amzn.to/3oQnpcm
Flex 3401 Polisher: amzn.to/3Npzm2X
Sanding Mouse: amzn.to/3n9sw79

A special thanks to CSS Creative Sound Solutions for sending out this kit, its a really nice complete kit that anyone can accomplish. If you want to experiment with DIY speaker builds or just want to try out your first CSS kit this is a great starting point. I made the build a bit more difficult with the paint and veneer but that is optional and can be finished very simply and quickly if desired.

I really appreciate the showing of all the steps AND the tools / materials used. I think you are the first complete overview that did not leave out key materials and helpful tools.

Hey Chris, I try to blend a bit of the actual process in to these. I was always frustrated when a video is a DIY project but they just show the beginning and the end. Thanks for watching today!

Love the design choice and thr pair look awesome! Really appreciate all the tips on each steps too! Watching other diy guides I was convinced I needed to invest in all these fancy tools to get a nice looking finish. Just saved me hundreds of dollars! 🙏

Good to hear this, I wanted to use tools that make it as assessable as possible without too many extra purchases. The router and trim bit would speed things up but can easily be bypassed with a little extra effort.

I really appreciate how your build videos cover a lot of “behind the scenes” details that others tend to skip. What I’ve learned so far is that I need about $2500 worth of tools to build my $250 speakers. 😂
@MattCoykendall1

Haha yeah I wanted to show more details, so many channels are like “here is a sheet of veneer, and here is the finished speaker” DIY certainly can get expensive but things can usually be done without the premium options, usually requires a bit more work and time mind you.

Absolutely beautiful! People don't realize because of editing how long and involved this process really is. I restore old shotguns and sometimes I will sand for five hours just to get the surface of the stocks just right.

Agreed, it’s amazing how much video I started out with before trimming everything down, like you said finishing work is certainly a long process.

I appreciate your mentioning the Heat Lock veneer glue. I am going to be doing veneer on my MLTL-6 speakers - my first time doing a veneer - and I really don't want to deal with VOC. This is a reason why I have only been using Baltic birch.
@MattCoykendall1
@MattCoykendall1 Жыл бұрын
The heat lock adhesive worked well for me, seems to have a good hold. I agree about the VOC free too, I use several products that do have VOC’s but avoid it if I can. Good luck on your project too!

I was VERY impressed with your video series and plan to take on the Criton 1TDX for my DIY. A quick question: Can you recommend a less expensive alternative to the Flex 3401 Polisher to complete the clear coat?

Thanks, the speaker build isn’t bad at all, the finishing can be complicated but can also be finished in much simpler ways than I did here.

Better than any video on the CSS site! I'm at the foam stage, does it only go in the bottom woofer space?
@MattCoykendall1
@MattCoykendall1 3 ай бұрын
As you noticed there won’t be enough for everything, prioritize the woofer compartment first, cover the crossover and then fill in what you can up top without interfering with the port. Enjoy the build!

Yes I am, I had enough for the back wall and the vast majority of the side walls in the top potion.

Thanks for sharing your tips, I made a mistake on my speakers by using white shellac as a sealer (before I watched your video) and the MDF is still expanding and contracting with humidity. I haven’t painted yet, so I am still in the "find a fix stage :)" Do you have any issues with the sealer that you used? Thanks in advance!
@MattCoykendall1
@MattCoykendall1 Ай бұрын
Consider sealing the inside as well if you haven't already, I thankfully have not had any issues with the sealer I used, I used the same process on the 1tdx build I am working on now as well.
