Izzi is a juvenile Peregrine falcon! It is not certain that he hunted himself. It is most likely a handover from one of the parents!
EDIT: It was not a juvenile parrot! It was a Superb Parrot female
Large, elegant green parrot with long pointed tail, found in inland New South Wales region. Male has bright yellow face with red throat band. Female and young bird almost entirely green. Feeds on ground, including roadsides. Much larger than Red-rumped Parrot and paler with a much narrower tail than Australian King-Parrot. Calls are a repeated wavering chatter.
ebird.org/species/suppar1
I'm not sure, if he was dead. I'm a bit unhappy.
Later, Diamond arrived on the Nestbox, Izzy got completely hysterical again. He grabbed Diamond's prey ! she fled in a great hurry.

Except the parrot wasn't meant to be there. He's probably from Brazil or Indonesia, poor Green guy, couldn't stand a chance against a predator he never met before
@fallen4life080
@fallen4life080 2 жыл бұрын
As a biologist who's worked with predatory birds they DON'T necessarily kill quickly. At least 60% of the time they either wait until the crushing force of their talons kills it, they suffocate, or when they feel they're out of danger or line of sight where other animals might steal its food, or when that isn't happening they start eating it while it's still alive. Falcons don't have time to wait unfortunately as the longer they take to eat it the more likely scavengers or other predators might swoop in for a kill which means a dead falcon.

Looks like a Peregrine Falcon. They strike at staggering speeds to the point their prey dies on impact from strike. Trust me that parrots had a quick death. I lived in an area growing up where Peregrines would roost. I would find all types of bird legs in our back yard. And so I caught an excellent view of one of the Peregrines striking a pigeon. All I seen was a feathers like it was a pillow fight in mid-air. The Peregrine took off without landing to the ground with its prey. This happened in less than 30 seconds.

It is no responsibility to keep a bird in a cage. These are not pets! They belong in the air, they want to fly free. People's egosism is limitless
@michellesweeting7528
@michellesweeting7528 Жыл бұрын
@@liznm-natur-channel There are many pet parrots out there and some very responsible bird owners. If they were set free they would most likely die and grieve for their owners. It’s about researching the bird and committing to it’s needs, and providing love and attention as with any pet. I get it, most people don’t do that and it’s sad because the bird suffers. Birds are unique and shouldn’t be given indiscriminately to people but an appropriate cage is fine if it’s large enough and used correctly. Birds should never spend all day in a cage and they should be tamed or you shouldn’t have one. It’s really a controversial subject, there are a lot of pet birds in shelters that would really benefit from a good loving home
