Wow, the melancholy that i feel when i see images of the school... I went to that school for six years, it represents so much in terms of bittersweet nostalgic memories of being younger, while also serving as a reminder of years that were spent alone, in depression and anxiety, and years that were misused, mismanaged. The campus sometimes stands as a shadow of what could have been, of what wasn't. My dream is to finally land a job as a teacher and then be able to visit the campus and sit on that one grassy area near the dorms, and feel that yes... it was indeed all worth it. This is indeed my depressive personality speaking but god damn... the memories... It feels just like yesterday...

I stayed in Hillside, in one of the traditional halls, and loved it! If you're really social, I would recommend trying for one of the traditional halls in Hillside over a suite-style building because you'll probably meet more people! Hope that helps :)

Hello! Thx for the video! I’m thinking about attending there for 2020 but do you know much about liberal arts programs at Long Beach? I want to be a linguistics major. I got accepted and am considering b/w Long Beach and San Diego State. (SDSU is super expensive!!) anyway wanted to hear your opinion!!
@_heyitsmay4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I was actually a Linguistics minor, so I know a bit about the program. Definitely check both schools to see what the requirements for the major are in terms of what classes you have to take and if they align with your interests (for example, if you are more interested in the technical aspects or sociolinguistics). Here is the link to CSULB's requirements: catalog.csulb.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=5&poid=2021 Our program gives you quite a bit of leeway because, as you can see if you click the link, after you complete the required list of classes, you can take any 7 upper division courses of your choosing to complete the major. There is some sort of Linguistics student association or club that holds events, so you could definitely get involved in that! Many of the professors are involved in some sort of research, and as you advance in the program, I would imagine there would be some opportunities to get involved with that too. Here is the link to the staff page: www.cla.csulb.edu/departments/linguistics/faculty-and-staff/ Dr. Ahland is the undergrad advisor, so he would be your point of contact if you wanted more information. He was my favorite professor that I had in the Linguistics program, and the research he does is really interesting! I hope this helps :) Let me know if you want any more information.

Liyah Lashaee You mean multimedia right? I didn’t show that one-I just mentioned it at the beginning. It’s behind the library, basically at the very top of campus :) As far as I know, if you pay the $40 fee you get access to the buses and campus shuttles, but not the Los coyotes shuttle service that goes off campus. But don’t quote me on that-I’m confused about this too because I’ve never had to deal with the fees before 😒 if someone else knows, please feel free to chime in haha!

Hi Fatima! I'm not a student anymore so I haven't really been keeping up on that. The campus website would be the best place to check for COVID updates. I think each campus is handling their decisions about in person classes for fall separately but that's definitely something to take into account when making a decision!

what science w/o lab and sci w/ lab do you recommend taking for GEs?
@_heyitsmay4 жыл бұрын
So I took Geology Natural Disasters as physical science without lab and Marine Bio for life science with lab (one has to be physical, the other has to be life). The advisor told me that Geology Natural Disasters was a great class that a lot of people liked, which may have been true, but my professor was awful. I couldn't understand her accent, she would lose her train of thought in mid-sentence and confuse herself as well as all of us during her lectures, and the tests never corresponded with the study guides. My advisor told me that Marine Bio was the easiest life science, and while I didn't find it easy (I'm scientifically challenged lol), it was actually kind of fun at times. We got to go on really cool field trips for lab. So those are my experiences, but in general I would recommend Marine Bio for life science with lab--I think all the other ones are a lot harder and most people are actually taking them as part of their major and not a GE. If you want to do life science without lab, there's Anthropology. And then for physical science, I would recommend Astronomy, Geology (there are more classes than just natural disasters), Geography, or Oceanography. These have options for lab or no lab. Again, these are the more common "GE" classes. Don't kill yourself doing CHEM 111A or Physics or something if you don't need to. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have more questions :)

Hi! I would say Comm classes would most likely be on upper campus, but I don't think there's one specific building they would necessarily be in. They're probably going to be in the LA (Liberal Arts) 1-5 buildings and the Psych building. That's my best guess!

@_heyitsmay3 жыл бұрын
Pretty close actually! There is a small target within walking distance from the top of campus by the library and there is a larger Target and a Trader Joe's about a 10-15 bus ride away from campus in the other direction. I'm not sure if there's a Walmart nearby though.

Do we need to buy a parking permit if we’re commuting ?
@_heyitsmay4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need a parking permit if you're going to park on campus. The only other option would be to try to park on a nearby street, but I would imagine that that would become a hassle pretty quickly, especially if you're trying to get to class on time.

@@_heyitsmay What do you mean by "upper campus"... the northern portion, or upper division class areas? This is a strange term for me to decipher. Hope my question makes sense!
@_heyitsmay4 жыл бұрын
@@ArtofReliance It's south campus. Campus is split into lower (north) and upper (south) but most people just call it lower and upper. Kind of contradictory, I know! Basically upper campus is the whole stretch from the library to the union, and lower campus is everything else.

Any suggestions for affordable off campus living?
@_heyitsmay4 жыл бұрын
You can check CSULB roommate finder on facebook! That's where people will post if they have a spot to fill. I would definitely recommend doing 4 people to a 2 bedroom over 2 people to a 1 bedroom--it's more cost effective that way. I know around the traffic circle is where a lot of people from CSULB end up getting apartments. Hope this helps!

Do people walk to all classes or bike?
@_heyitsmay3 жыл бұрын
I would say walking is definitely the most common. Most of campus is "no roll zone" but some people used scooters and skateboards along the sides. I would say campus is very walkable and unless you have to walk from one end of campus to the other multiple times a day or something, it's probably not worth it to get a bike, scooter, or skateboard.
