The Pere Marquette was absorbed into the C&O in 1947 which itself later become part of the Chessie System and Finally CSX. And since CSX still uses some of the trackage, the PM is technically a predecessor road.

It's great to see these CSX Heritage units out on the rails, while showing where CSX started and grow from there. The Pere Marquette Heritage unit especially. When I saw that CSX was making these Heritage units, I thought that I would recommend the Pere Marquette to be the next heritage unit. Seeing how the PM merged with the Chesapeake and Ohio in 1941. Who would've thought that it would come true. I happen to live where the Chessie system once ran through, and the Chesapeake and Ohio and the Pere Marquette before it.

Because Pere Marquette merged with Chesapeake and Ohio in 1947 - in fact, some of 1225's siblings ran their last miles on C&O's WV lines in the 1950's.

@@blairterry9435 it actually goes deeper than the PM-C&O merger of 1948. In the 1920s both were controlled, together with the Nickel Plate and Erie, by the Van Sweringen brothers of Cleveland. The mechanical group of these 4 railroads, the Advisory Mechanical Group, together with Lima Locomotive Works designed some of America's most famous locomotives, like the C&O's T-1 2-10-4 (and its clone, the Pennsy J1), the C&O 2-6-6-6 Allegheny, as well as the Erie S-series, Nickel Plate S-series, Pere Marquette N-series and C&O Kanawha Berkshires.

Many of these paint schemes they’re doing focused on the FRONT of the locomotive as the “eye catcher.”. The very same front that they instead slapped the ugly CSX junk on the front of. These units could’ve been really special, but I won’t be blowing the dust off my camera to photograph these.

I'm kinda ok with this livery, but in my honest opinion, it's... meh. Its just a variation of the C&O passenger colors, with the exception of the "Pere Marquette" letters in C&O Art Deco script and the PM herald. In my heart of hearts, it should have been gloss black with Venetian Yellow lettering, which was the color worn by PM's small fleet of diesels (which were all EMD SW1 and NW2 switchers) prior to the merger with C&O.

@@MillersRailfan in my view, if a company have to do a heritage unit, you have to do it in a manner that respects the history of the predecessor company. Sure the PM livery is historical, but it is a variation of the C&O passenger colors used immediately before its full integration in 1948. The true historic livery of PM is the color worn by the railroad's small fleet of EMD diesels in the late 1930s through the 1940s, which was gloss black with Venetian Yellow lettering. That’s why I really love the heritage units of Norfolk Southern and a few other entities, like British Airways, which did a faithful recreation of the liveries of its predecessors.
