What a nice downtown. I love it! Not to mention a nice place for railfanning while having lunch or enjoying a cup of coffee. I really wish I could live in place with a downtown like this.

I guess trains running down the Main Street must be a throwback to the early days of the town and the town just expanded around the train lines.
@my3dviews4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. They would never put a track on a street through an existing town or city now.

Nice! BNSF 5725 is a pre=production GEVO, one of the only few with a steel bell on BNSF's roster!

Nice, steadyideo! Thank you. Why not video from the sunny side? The clock and signal shown is nice! Love you view from closer to the ground! From ground level near the wheels would also be nice.

Things I never learned in traffic school. "At a 4-way intersection, who has the right of way? The driver going straight, the driver turning left, the train, or the driver turning right?"
@my3dviews4 жыл бұрын
The train always has the right of way. :-) On regular 4 way stops it is who gets there first. If there is a tie, then you give right of way to the vehicle on your right. If the two vehicles that are tie are straight across and one is turning left, then the one going straight has the right of way. If one is turning right and the other left, then the one turning right has right of way.

People that lived in the area for years are used to it and know how to adjust people that are new to the area you could spot them real quick because they are the only ones freaking out because they have no patiences waiting.

Dang. They’re moving at a pretty good clip. I thought they’d go at a restricted speed.
@BradleyDCC6 жыл бұрын
The headend is at restricted speed until the train fully occupies the street, then they can increase to track speed.

Seriously, if a train allows a street run, they NEED the horn! Too dangerous with a quiet zone.
@Mrcharles.5 жыл бұрын
@Doug Thompson. You might have a different response to what you just said if you had a home or business on that street and I can tell ya right now, you probably don’t wanna hear the sound of a K5HL horn blasting right next to you in the middle of the night. Just saying.
@joesjunkyard9355 жыл бұрын
Being a local where this video is from. We don't need horns, we know when they come. Pretty obvious.

No horneeded. Buthe horn can be sounded at any time, anywhere, if needed. Advance yellow (RXR) sign, mee-mool lights *(o)T(o)* and gates with red lamps and three bright lamps on the locomotive arenough.

I still can’t believe towns like this one allow trains to run down the street. To me roads and railroads are separate and that cities need to remove them so no one gets hurt.
@JohnE99995 жыл бұрын
The railroad was almost certainly there first, and the track runs on the street for a mere three blocks.
@goosecreekcycle15035 жыл бұрын
Every now and then there is a accident, but almost always at slow enough speed that no one is really hurt. I have worked here for years, and the only wreck I ever had was with another car.
@Mrcharles.5 жыл бұрын
@Goose Creek Cycle. Do the merchants and business folks who own those stores seem irritated whenever a train comes rolling down the street? I could see a couple of them be frustrated with that.
@goosecreekcycle15035 жыл бұрын
For the most part the merchants like the trains. They can sometimes be inconvenient but they attract a lot of tourists and we all knew what we were signing up for when we moved in.
@coswiger5 жыл бұрын
If you check the YT live stream of La Grange by Virtual Railfan you can see that the trains normally don't cause any problems or dangerous situations. It's some car drivers' ignorance and stupidity. WIth the given rules the system works fine.

That railroad line is the main line between Louisville, KY and Cincinnati, OH. I know from having lived at one point in the area in the next town further south. That train shown headed towards that black signal tower was going to Cincinnati.
