Thank you CTA! I mananged to watch most of Your lines the last days. Other big cities in the world should follow this Your example, at least their transport authotitis. Very impressing, especially downtown Chicago. And very ugly parts are to be seen in the suburbs and the outskirts. That is how big cities are. Chicago, too, of course. Until now, I knew and loved Your "windy" city because of the Chicago Blues and this special band in the seventies, who used Your name in full lenght at their beginnings. Later the abbreviated it to just "Chicago". Now I know a lot more about Your town! I am european, german, living in a village of 500 inhabitants. I really could not live in Chicago. But, as I said: Very very impressive!

It seems as the train approaches the station it is going too fast and maybe it will not stop, but the operators do a good job keeping the speed up until the right time to slow for the end of the platform!
@Unknownety2 жыл бұрын
And the result is that all the trains seems to have flats on their wheels (since all videos from CTA has clear signs of flats on their wheels). And why there is this constant bumping sound. Flats also wears out the track faster too. So no, it isn't skill to break too late and prematurely wear out the wheels and create larger unnecessary maintenance costs for the whole network. A flat is created when the train breaks too hard. Effectively the wheels lock up and glide along the track, and in turn put a noticeable flat spot onto the wheel. Flats are likewise annoying to both passengers, operators, and to people living in the local area.

It's worth noting that you hear that constant clanging and rough ride from all the flat spots on the wheels of almost every consist on the blue line. Those of us who ride this endure it every day but I guess the transients who ride overnight don't mind but I do. It would be nice to see some of that new equipment on the Blue line and some newer bus equipment out of forest glen, sincerely a happy rider but feeling left out =)
@TheChicagoL9 жыл бұрын
+Dean Alt With exception to when they were brand new in the 80s, the annoyance from wheel-flat noise almost seems inherent to the 2600 series. As for new equipment, I've heard other comments about lack of it being assigned to the Northwest Side. I'm inclined to believe that when the 7000 series finally start arriving on the property (and who knows when that will be), the first batch would reasonably go to the Blue. As for Forest Glen, just "maybe" that garage will get an assignment of the 8200 series Nova Smart buses that are supposed to start arriving on the property in early 2016. But notice, I said "MAYBE".

I winder if the reason the closed stations are still intact is because they want them there in case they ever decide to re-open them?
@MPIEMDRailfan48 жыл бұрын
That's not really a question that anyone knows the answer to. Some stations are historic, so they won't be demolished. Some are pending reopening. But some that have been closed for over 40 years are so outdated that it'd cost more to reopen them than just build a new station. A few stations have been closed for only about 10 years and are possibly reopening. But most closed stations have been demolished long ago.

I remember when these trains had a Conductor, their only job was to open/close the doors and make the announcements of the stops. They were in process of phasing them out in 1998 when I left Chicago for the last time. I used to take a Pace bus from Justice to Midway, Orange line to Blue line then another Pace Bus when I worked in Park Ridge. 2 hour commute that way but didn't really have to wait much.
@michaelbrinkers37656 жыл бұрын
Correct. The drivers, whose compartment windows are open to both sides of the train, open and close the doors. This saves labor costs, but also adds about one minute more, for each station stopped, resulting in longer rides. Also, there is a psychological cost: Without a conductor, some passengers feel less safe since no "live" CTA personnel is among them. Crime is rampant on the CTA, which is not seen on these videos.
@phoungdang4473 Жыл бұрын
They still have conductors it’s not automatic trains but you are correct about their jobs open and close doors but not just that driving the train and much more

Porque tantos prédios marrons (browns)? Dá um aspecto de tristeza por ser uma cor sem vida, sem alegria. Nossa, como tem prédios assim nos Estados Unidos. Em Chicago, então, eles existem em demasia.

blue line cars are old and shitty as fuck.... why can't we get the newer cars like on the red line on the blue line, its used just as much
@DeclanBeyer7 жыл бұрын
Not trying to come off as a dick, but do you live in the city? if so, try taking the blue line to and from school every day in these shit cars that can't even hold max capacity because of the seating arrangement. Not to mention that they break down CONSTANTLY. Door problems, electrical issues, and so on. Its not fun. its also not just a car issue, but a service issue as well. They need to find better methods for morning rush periods, it could turn a 30 minute commute in to a 15.

Declan Beyer They're getting new 1s, but you've to wait 2 years. The manufacturer's selected,&some renderings of what car 7010 could look like. The 7K series may also be being produced because they're going to add a new line but there is no planning in that right now.

I HAVE TO RIDE your trains "live" :-) , but it is expensive to travel from Germany .... :-(
@kvernon16 жыл бұрын
The route runs along a highway. Can someone please explain how you would access a train from there? I didn't see any parking lots adjacent to the stops. And if you are in your car already on the way to Chicago, why not just drive the rest of the way?
@ThatcherChannel6 жыл бұрын
Either the highway is elevated above the station or long bridges or ramps bring you to the platform from the cross street.

Driving into the city is usually easy but parking can be VERY expensive in the Loop. A $2.50 train ride ($5.00 round trip, even less for monthly pass holders) vs. $40.00/day to park? It's a pretty easy decision for most of us.
@patrickhoward97936 жыл бұрын
Not to mention about how traffic gets progressively worse the closer you get to the Loop.

The have bridges and ramps that bring down to the platform. As as other commenters said, it’s less to pay for the train as it is to pay for parking

There are large parking lots and/or multilevel parking garages at several of the stations, including the Forest Park terminal. The lots might not be visible on this video, but they are there. You can exit the highway, park at those stations, and board the trains.
