Good narrative of the fabric choices as well as the fact we are not perfect. Fun block for practicing 2 at a time HST. I'm a big fan of cutting 3" squares and trimming each one. Also, for new quilters, this cut gives us a bit of confidence to make a bunch. Thanks again Carol.

Great tip! I always forget about that. I need to add that to future videos. I know it will help lots of people. Thanks for reminding me!

Very nice block, I appreciate you zeroing in on the wonkiness within a block and fabric contrast. My QAL blocks are a challenge in both areas. I will persevere as part of my learning curve. My block #2 I redid and changed fabrics for more contrast, which is a lot better, but I still have some puckering. Frustration aside I will move on and hopefully learn from the experience. Again thanks Carol, for sharing all the tidbits of quilting. 👍❤️😊

Carmen, that is exactly what I do. If it isn't right, I try once more. I have found that trying twice more is a waste of time. It is amazing how we can have so much trouble with one thing then the next time it comes around it's a piece of cake! Keep doing what you are doing and it will become much easier!

I've always loved this block! Thank you! Thanks also for calling the little snippets "nubs" rather than dog ears. The term dog ears never bothered me UNTIL I heard that some people wince when they here the term. Now I kinda do too. "Nubs" should be the new norm used by sewers and quilters! 😊🐶♥

A really good teacher that was around when I first started quilting called them nubs and I guess it just stuck with me! Thanks for watching.

This is a lovely block. Have you considered showing the 8at a time half square triangles?
@CarolThelen Жыл бұрын
That would have been the perfect thing to demo for this block and the accuracy would have improved. I will try to work that in to the next quilt that needs 8 HST. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching.

It’s stated that you sew scant quarter inch seam, or use a quarter inch seam with acququilt cuts. What is the difference?
@CarolThelen Жыл бұрын
The AccuQuilt dies are cut for a true 1/4" and they are the exact size every time. For rotary cutting, there are slight differences in the cutting because we are human. the scant 1/4" helps even out the differences in cutting. I like to say it gives us wiggle room. I also cut my pieces slightly larger, just a few threads. I figure I can always trim down but I can't make the piece larger once it's been cut. Great question, Thanks for watching.
