Before you work on the passenger side, weld you a new cross brace in higher up before you cut out your cross brace you have in now. That way you have something to hold it in place before you cut out the A pillar to weld in the new one.

Great job, make sure the lower door hinge is straight up and down. Use the Jack to hold the door up. Loosen the door screws some and do top or bottom first not both at same time. I know from my own experience with my old car.

Fantastic work. Very methodical and well done; one bite at a time. At this pace the outcome will be optimal. Don’t get discouraged by the door not aligning perfectly at first; remember everything is not fully welded and you are missing additional panels. That will give the body a lot more rigidity. You got the pillar where you want it.

nice progress. I'm no expert but if you have got that much drop/sag/movement in your door the problem is more than likely your hinges. you can't adjust that out with the screws on the a-pillar. you'll need new hinges or new pins for the hinges. a little bit of play in the hinges equals a lot of play when you get all the way out to the other end of the door. I'd look there first.

Hey CT. I've been following this build closely because I have 7'1 Super Beetle project car that has some rust which will require new metal. Watching you patiently work through your metal work is inspiring to me, to the point I feel I can attempt to do the metal work on my bug. (Fortunately, my rust is not as bad as yours.) Your videos show the real-world DIY process and spirit one will can expect in doing roadstoration work. Thanks so much. And best of luck in your continuing rebuild oh your '65.

I think part of your problem with the hinge is that the tack welds are only on the outer skin of the pillar. The inner part will flex as this is where the door actually fasteners to. Great work though it's great to see the progress. If you get stuck at any point I have the VW workshop manual with all the measurements.

@darkfactory8082

You will have to do some layer staggering there, because the vertical "tube" structure is made of 2 layers and you need to weld both. It's better to stagger joints, so it's not everything cut and welded in the same place, which reduces deformations and gives you a little extra holding power if some welds end up crooked, usually because unreachable. Don't forget a pencil and paper to get exact shape allocation. Other than that, spare parts look quite nice, your work is also improving.. The important thing is that we learn every single day. For door alignment, check if there was some gap between the heater channel upper edge and the pillar mount you tacked on the original, since it's quite rotten, the pillar base might be moved slightly backwards. Check twice, adjust once. 😉Also check for play in the hinges.. Those oldies many times have some play which messes up everything you do. Don't throw away originals untill you finish repairs. Cheers, Mr. CT, keep the flow going.👍

Your hinges should have zero slop once you get everything welded back together... When you lift on the back of the door, it shouldn't shift at the hinge... If it does, you may need new hinge bushings... Any slop between the pin and the hinge means it's time to repair them. There's almost no way to get a door fit well with bad bushings... Just looking in my crystal ball for you!!!
