I bought one like this to pull a 1987 v6 buick engine out of a lesabre. When I pushed the engine lift up to the car to pull the engine the lift cylinder hit the front bumper of the car and kept me from lining up the lifting arm over the center point. In other words the lifting arm was too short. I almost boxed it up to exchange it for a more expensive 2 ton model. I noticed that my boat trailers winch post was made of tubular aluminum. I measured it and found that it will fit exactly into the tubular lifting arm design. I removed the boats winch mount post and used it to extend the reach or length of the lifting arm. Had to drill one hole to keep it secure but all worked well. I bring this up so that if anyone comes across the problem of a short reach then there is a work around. Keep in mind that extending the length of the lifting boom has an effect on the amount of weight that can be lifted. Good video; Thanks

Thanks for making this video. my cherry picker that I ordered from harbor freight was missing bolts washers and a small caster. with this video I was able to see what I need to get . Thanks a lot for taking the time man !

No worries! Just a lil bit of help online can save the day!!! Enjoy your lift man, mine is still going strong!

harbor freight actually does make sense. just gotta think harder!

Great video thanks, Having large hands I came up with a pretty simple solution. Harbor Freight sells $6 10" stainless steel hemostat-style curved clamp which holds the nut and washer while you feed the bolt in from the bottom. Just thought I would share.

Do you ever work on an engine while it is suspended from the hoist? Or do you rest the engine on a shipping pallet, instead? If ease of access to the engine is the major advantage of a hoist, how is the engine secured while suspended? How did your engine repair go? Was the hoist absolutely essential? You explained at the beginning of the video about the risky aspects of working on an engine without the aid of a hoist. But now that you have completed the engine overhaul, would you have done anything differently? BTW, what was the tool size you used with the two sockets-- 3/8 or 1/2-inch? Do you recommend an air wrench?

Yes, I have worked on an engine suspended from a hoist before. Most typically and engine stand is BEST for working on a motor. But I've worked on motor in just about all sorts of situations. It's not "Ease of access" necessarily Bob, but the fact that the motor is heavy as all hell. LOL Whenever working with anything heavy, best to always add an additional level of support to prevent yourself from getting hurt. My engine repair went just fine, it was an outboard motor for my boat to be exact. I had gotten the motor off without the hoist and shear strength of a couple guys, but I wouldn't recc it by any means. Only thing I would of done is sold the motor and bought a bigger newer one, but it was fun none the less. As for the tool, I'm assuming your talking about my "bent handle rachet"? Available at Craftsman, and my favorite rachet by far! Swivels and the handle is cocked to help into weird situations. You can also flip it up like a speed rachet as well. No air wrench is needed for this, but you are more than welcome using one! Happy Holidays bud!

shouldn't u have a bolt-washer (crane chassis) -lock washer and nut?? that way makes sense
@TJ-hd5ym Жыл бұрын
I put a piece tape on the end of the wrench and the nut will stick to the tape.

Damn my smaller caster bolts wont let me secure the folding leg, they stick out too much and the holes dont align

Can this hoist hold an engine up in the air for extended periods of time?
@cturboaddict9 жыл бұрын
+Gabriel Ortiz It should perfectly fine. But always best to support the weight incase of a failure.

Do you think this would work for a truck bed removal? I'm not sure the arm extension would clear the side of the bed.
@cturboaddict10 жыл бұрын
Maybe with some sort of jig or spreader attachement for the truck bed. You might be better suited with a couple come-a-longs inside a garage bolted to the ceiling...

***** I was thinking of two heavy duty tow straps on the tie down hooks which would run through the chain in an attempt to lift it more from the center point. It would be damned cool if you could get attachments for specific jobs.

gremlinsbreath They sell em bud. Recently I was up at a rigging company and had a project where we put a 20000# sculpture on the roof of a building in NY. It's called a spreader bar. :)

A lockwasher against a flat washer is totally useless.
@LincolnSP15010 жыл бұрын
I don't agree with you Ron, the ......The lock washer works two ways....compression, and grip much as a star washer it digs in to nut and what it is tightened against. Often times if you wish not to scar up the metal under the nut and lockwasher a flat washer protects metal from being scared up. The nut will still stay tight from compression force against the nut while compressing the lock washer even while using a flat washer.
