@@EverydayCanadianMan well. I’m not an expert. Nor a doctor on the matter. I only have the experience of being a child once and reflecting on things I have done realizing now that I clearly did not have the mental capacity to process the consequences. Now I have children and I would be fine if someone said you need to wait till you have the mental capacity to evaluate your decision more accurately. Show me one case, just one, of a 5 or 10 year old making this decision and having any procedures done or medication prescribed without the consent of their parents. It doesn't happen. The child doesn't make the decision, the parents make the decision and must have the backing of a doctor otherwise there's no decision to even be made. You can't order surgeries or hormone blockers over the counter, so children already cannot make this decision, and the parents cannot just blindly make the decision.

The care that this is going to remove from kids under 15 actually does lead to reduced suicidal ideation and reduced risk of self-harm so, yeah, there _is_ a problem with waiting. But that would require you to read the rest of the policies here and understand the context instead of falling for Smith’s making-it-out to be all about surgery. Smith leads the listener to believe that Lois was a child suffering the result of something that was imposed upon her as a child, when in fact she made that choice as an adult. In any event, then nor now would Lois have had the opportunity to transition surgically as a child yet Smith holds her up as a cautionary tale of someone who was somehow wronged by a system that forced upon her a decision that she now regrets, even though she made that decision as an adult with full consent.
