@willowtreeyoga15923 жыл бұрын
I cannot imagine the horrors the children who attended such schools endured. The horrors their parents went through never knowing what was happening to their children. We need to ensure that we remember ALL of this and the countless other stories like this, so that it is never repeated and we need to do better. We need to make sure this history is taught as a part of the school curriculum.... as a part of our dark history so we never ever forget and never ever repeat it.

While the residential schools are a horrific part of Canadian history, context needs to be given regarding this report. They have been investigating this since the early 2000's...that's roughly 20 years...this is not new. Investigations into how each child died and whether or not the deaths were reported, need to be discovered. Diseases and epidemics were still largely unavoidable back then, as well as the terrible living conditions many of these children had to endure. I am not making excuses for this tragedy of indigenous lives, I am saying that we should find out what really happened to these children so that we can start to, like Chief McLeod says, begin to heal and move forward.
@timcoolican4593 жыл бұрын
@@jasondoucette6236 Something just feels off about this. Nearly 20 years of supposed investigation and the only information is that over 200 bodies were found? It seems like there would be more information to share, following such a long investigation. The timing of this report, in my estimation, is suspicious. With so much division in our society today, this just adds more fuel to the fire. What prompted this investigation, back in 2000, and was known prior to it? This only conjures more questions...not answers.

I want to send him a big hug. I can't imagine children being sent to such a horrible place. My dad was in a Catholic school in Quebec, he said the nuns would paddle him if he upset them and a big BIG difference was when the abuse happened, parents took their kids out of there. Didn't happen in residential schools, they were trapped there and they didn't go home at the end of the day to be fed by their loving families. They lived at these schools. They didn't get to be kids. Many were assaulted/sexually abused as well. They were malnourished/starved probably had to eat spoiled food if they got any food :*( and they were just a number there, a number to be converted and used as laborers. it was a jailed childhood. Should never have happened to anyone. I am so glad our children are safe from that horrible scary place and I hope it never happens again to anyone.

The Catholic Church should be held accountable and not just for an "apology". These children were torn from their homes by the police or other authorities and ultimately murdered by their caretakers. The dead kids are the ones who couldn't have the "Indian" beat out of them. This is beyond heartbreaking.
