Hi Paul, just a small point if I may…medical teams especially surgery do not recommend shaving as microscopic damage is done to the skin which can result in infections. In my early days nursing we used to shave “ nipple to knee” for any abdominal surgery ! But it may worth you checking with your surgical team before shaving as any infection around the cannula site can be serious which is why they hadn’t shaved your forearms last time.
@lindsayholden59593 ай бұрын
Oh that is so true......no scissors or razor or any open cuts , even tiny ones, during the week PRIOR to surgery. I know this because hubby has been told this too. One nick and surgery will be postponed because of bacteria settling in the skin break.

Wow, Paul, I've been following you since your diagnosis and I missed a few recently- what struck me in this video is that you look and sound so incredibly strong. Huge difference from before your last surgery- you even said it yourself. A lot was thrown at you at once and of course your mental health suffered- it was a scary place to be and you didn't know what you'd get hit with next. Now you have consistent support, (Carolyn you are an angel, I've said it before) and you have a future to look forward to. You have also learned that the things you love (working on cars, etc) are still there even after a medical ordeal such as your former surgery. We're cheering you on from CT, USA. Too bad I'm not in Sidney, I have some little car things that could use your magical touch.🧡🧡

Put a very warm (hot, if you can stand it) washcloth over the adhesive part for a few minutes. The adhesion will become pliable and peel right off. A blow dryer will also work if they allow you to use it. Set it on warm to begin. Increase to hot if you get impatient. I discovered this when I had abdominal surgery and they sent me home all bandaged up. I actually went with the blow dryer at that time. I directed the heat on the bandage I’m trying to remove and gently pull. I also use the blow dryer to relieve itching…especially the back where I can’t reach it. I let the itch almost intensify until it’s gone. This lasts for hours. And it worked on some of the itching I developed from the adhesions. I have to admit, I haven’t tried the washcloth method. Perhaps take some ziplocks with you to put them inside if you don’t want them getting wet and maybe contain some of the heat. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the update and I will be praying for you. I have my 1st CRS/HIPEC scheduled for 8/30/24. Nervous as heck, but your videos have helped me greatly. I also have signet ring cell PMP from my appendix. My chemo finished (FOLFOX) 3 weeks ago and I am starting a weight gain and exercise routine to prep for the surgery based on your videos. You are a gift, thank you.
@PaulinPerth3 ай бұрын
Thank you. Your situation is the exact reason I documented my journey. PMP is so rare that I thought I might be able to shine some new light. Well, you've seen my videos of my first CRS+HIPEC. So you know it can be brutal. I have goblet cell, and you have signet ring cell, so our pathology is different in that regard. On the bright side for you is that (as I understand it), signet ring cell PMP responds to chemo (systemic and intraperitoneal) better than goblet cell does. You are absolutely right to gain weight and muscle tone prior to your surgery. If I account for my ascites weight, I dropped from 82 kgs to 69.5 kgs during my recovery. 12.5 kgs = 27.5 lbs. So get yourself to 12.5 kgs above your ideal weight. One other piece of advice is to not ignore the incentive spirometer they give you post-op. www.healthline.com/health/incentive-spirometer You are going to be on the operating table for something like 13 hours. During that time you are breathing very shallow at the same time as you are having your diaphragm scraped. So it shouldn't surprise you when your lungs are partially deflated afterwards. Using the spirometer will speed up the process by which your lungs re-inflate. This speeds up your overall recovery time. I was lazy with the spirometer last time. It was a mistake. Don't make the same mistake as me. Do the spirometer exercises. Paul.

Quick pro tip on the canula super-tape: if you're able to obtain a small bottle of baby oil (or really, any kind of oil), saturate the tape and it will turn loose, pulling on neither your hair nor skin. Hard to believe that people actually pay others to have large steps of sticky tape plastered down the middle of their asses and yanked off just to remove the hairs. Craziness.
