Paul, leaks are the pits, but we eventually learn to shrug them off. Happy to hear that the flight attendants were helpful (as they should be!). From my own experience weight changes (up or down) can result in the need for appliance changes and our stomas do change here and there with these changes. So glad the stoma team was able to sort you out and that your current appliance assortment seems to be working! Keep measuring your stoma as you recover so you can adjust the size/shape of the hole in your barrier; this is the key to keeping your skin in good shape and preventing leaks. Thrilled to see that you're back home where you can be comfortable. Caroline, a million thanks for taking such good care of our Paul. ❤❤❤

Paul, a little tip that I have found to be helpful. When you are changing your bag, put the new one in your armpit for a few minutes and use your body heat to "heat" it up. This seems to condition the adhesive, which in turn helps it to stick to your body better. Accurate cutting of the appliance to fit your stoma is vital. Best wishes.

In the UK, people with stoma’s all have access to a stoma nurse. They can call any time and book an appointment almost any time. And have quick access to them. I can’t believe you didn’t in Australia. Glad you’re ok now ! 👍❤️👍

That is shocking. It is really difficult and usually a long wait here in the states

Not in my area of the US. We connect people w stoma nurses prior to them ever leaving the hospital. Of course, I guess follow up is based on insurance coverage here. Australia and the EU have Universal Healthcare. Therefore, there is really no comparison.

It turns out that there is a stoma therapy nurse service at Royal Perth Hospital that can be accessed at short notice. I wish I had known this before heading to the Emergency Department of RPH and sitting there for over an hour. I could have walked next door to the outpatient clinic and been seen almost straight away. Live and learn I guess.

My stoma has completely changed after my second surgery and I also deal with swollen abdominal area around it, not easy to get the appliance to behave nicely. I went through some triad and error with some rough skin irritation and small wounds but now I think I slowly get a hang of it. Best wishes and gentle hugs❤❤❤

Welcome home you two. Sorry for the stoma "drama". I know how distressing that must have been for you, given your love/hate relationship with the damn thing. My late husband was told by an "old hand" stoma nurse not to stress about getting ALL the old adhesive off the area...that a little build up would help it adhere even better. He found that to be valuable bit of advice. I'll be interested in how the neuropathy journey progresses, if resuming the PEA works again for you. I'm glad for you to know for certain how much we ❤❤ you and your Caroline...LET THE HEALING BEGIN! (Ann)

Hello from Arkansas, USA!! I am still celebrating your stunning health turnabout, from when you had decided “enough” and accepted a future which was deemed to be somewhat quickly terminal. It’s a brilliant change, and your attitude was/ is courageous. you decided to live life, and going with friends to sporting event…and surprised yourself with new found joy. It seemed you were at peace. then, one after another, unexpected messages from doctors, test results, etc, your situation changed….hope, excitement, renewed life!! An example to all of us, in my humble opinion, of letting go and letting God take over. Perhaps God blessed not only you, but through you, to bless many of us with this witness.
