Thank you so much, i was given a 1046 cub with same issue will only crank half way and then stops. But I noticed starter was stuck in up position...i tested battery it's fine and power to starter, i was thinking it wasn't strong enough to turn over motor correctly.

Have you counted the teeth on the new starter and are they exactly the same? I replaced my battery and that was not the problem. My 2015 42 inch XT1 was cranking slow. Sometimes, I would jump it with my car. That would work sometimes. Then, I did some research. The starter would engage the flywheel, but it would not turn the motor over. V-Twin Kohler. The battery has remained at 12.6Volts. That is how I knew the problem was my starter, especially hearing of the horror stories of other Kohler engine owners. Will update when I get it from eBay.

did Cub Cadet charge you for the new starter...??? if so How much are they ?? I having the same issue with mind LT1046 23 hp Kolher engine. just like your except a next size below yours.I had all kinds off issues with mind since I purchase it. ( Spindles all had to be replace ...they always came off when in use.. they make a newer model type of spindles that replace my original ones,,, this tractor always has something going on each year, I have it all.. never stops... I never get another one of these again.

I did have to pay and it was over $100 if I recall correctly. I have some deck trouble but mine has run pretty well. Good luck!
