Im 58 years old and this brings back my childhood memories. I spent many hours mowing my parents lawn on an Cub Original. What a great design from International Harvester back in the day. Needless to say I enjoyed mowing grass so much that I currently own a lawn service. We run Exmark Lazer Z’s for our business. Wow how things have progressed in my life. The 4 acres I spent 8+ hours in the seat, I can mow with a 60” Lazer Z in a couple of hours.

I still love this old stuff, But you are right this new stuff does the job way faster. To think 30 years ago 18hp was a lot, Now that seems like nothing. I still enjoy cutting grass also, But it is nice doing it faster.

Hello From Mark In Kentucky. We used to have a Cub Cadet dealer in Lexington Ky who had a Cub Cadet Original in his showroom in which it looked like it had just been delivered from the factory and was usually the topic of discussion for anyone visiting the dealership. The owner could very easily recite any of the parts numbers for anything that you were there to purchase and it was always a treat to visit his place of business. It was truly a sad day when this gentleman decided to retire and close his business for all of us who had Cub Cadets. I still have a 107 and a 682 Cub Cadet tractor to this day. Love these originals. I’ve got one myself with a Danco Under drive. Mine is still in its work clothes but complete and original. I use it regularly to cut grass and snow blow in the winter. Great little reliable tractor

Crazy to think that over 50 years later these small tractors are still cutting grass and blowing snow. I really prefer tractors to be original in there work clothes, But it is nice to have them shiny as well. They are only original once. I love patina on the early Cubs.

I've had mine since 2010 Its a 61 also. I bought a set of original fenders for it and gave over 200 dollars for them not including the S&H! It needs deck bearings , but it runs and mows to this day.

What a real gem of a tractor and a super rare piece to own - basically the holy grail of Cub Cadets and far more rare than the 3- or 4-digit models. There is a 9-speed Original in rougher shape, not running, up for auction in Illinois right now and the bid is up to $5250 as of me writing this, with 16 days still left on the auction. Congratulations on the rare find, and crazy to think they were going to scrap it.

I am happy to have it. I always knew creepers were not very common, But never thought they were this hard to come by. I did see that one up for auction. I am not sure if it is really going for that or if it is being run up. I can't imagine anyone paying that much money for any garden tractor. There were a few others on the same site bringing big money. I guess if someone wants something bad enough they will pay big money. I am curious on what it sells for, And if it was a legit bid and sale.

@@steiger256 Most certainly sold for $8,250. I know the buyer and he’s a very serious buyer when it comes to rare item. Definitely an extremely valueable gear box you have there.

Just got my first International cub cadet earlier this month, 1963 original. Its a good companion to my MTD/CCC GT2544 cub. Not as capable but I wont ask it to do the same tasks as I would the newer bigger machine. Its too nice to risk breaking something😂. In my opinion I dont think theres a better combo of a Cub cadet shaft driven garden tractor, cast iron rear, and a kohler engine. Even today with the XT3 its still a bullet proof combination.

@JoshAllen17Goated The old Cubs were so way overbite due to using parts from existing tractors. Even the new ones are built better than some of there competitors. Youbreally can't beat the old ones tho. They were tanks for sure.

@@steiger256 I agree, I think Cub made the best garden tractors in the industry until they discontinued the XT3 in 2023. The old machines are build like tanks and the new ones are built like tanks too. Especially compared to the new junk today.

10.8 Mph on that thing would be crazy (and I race mowers :P) I have a 61 and a 61 O, plan to leave on bone stock and try and find one of the pull starts for it plus make some steel wheels for it, the other will be every option I can find for it. I didn't know they made a hydraulic lift option of the original, always thought the 70-100 were the first to have that, got to keep my eyes open for that now. Great little machine, glad someone saved it back in 1997.

I imagine the hydraulic lift is hard to find, But they are out there. It is amazing how many options were avalable for the originals.

It's hard to imagine how many of these were scraped through the years. I am glad this one was saved. It still blows my mind how many old garden tractors and farm tractors in really nice shape roll into the scrap yards. I guess to some people they are just old junk.

10.8 mph! that's screaming for the time. I have a new Kubota Z781 EFI ZT mower with a 30hp Kawi V-twin and it does 11mph which is way to fast for me for cutting grass. I imagine that Cub is a handful at 10+ I would like to see it though.

Some parts are lost thru the years. The oil bath air cleaner is one that usually get changed out a lot of times. Most of the other things were all options back in them days. Glad the video helped.

I am not sure if you seen the videos I had made on the lawn tractor Salvage yard or not, But when I was there a month ago he had 3 maybe 4 originals he had got in. He may be parting them out. His prices are pretty fair and he does ship also.

I never understood the purpose of the overdrive on these relics. It's not like anyone needed these to run to town for a gallon of milk so what's the craziness about? I understand the creeper for the thrower or tiller, but tell me the need for speed?

I agree. The creeper can be used for tilling or snowblowing. The only thing I can think is the idea behind it was to give a few more speed options. Like 2nd gear overdrive is a few mph less than 3rd standard. I think also most people did not see the need for it and that is more than likely why not many were ever sold. I am not sure on cost between the M&W vs the UD-6. If I had to guess the UD-6 was cheaper and the need to pay more for 3 over gears to most people were not needed. Thats just my thoughts tho.

I have 3, 1 has 1754 as the assembly number. 1 has padded seat, 1 has factory fenders and the other is oil bath earliest. Have 1 set of tire chains, and the tires are unbelievable for their age. I am selling for 800 for all 3 or trade of a different machine. All just 3 speeds, am I crazy for selling these ?

It all has to do with options. Rear PTO, M&W, stock creeper drive, 3 digits production numbers, ect. These are a few things that make them more rare. The tractors themselves are pretty common, But a original steel seat that has not been welded is worth money. The rear fenders can bring as much as a tractor sometimes. Headlights and taillight bring money as well. If it is a 3 digit it may be worth hanging onto. I would not say you are crazy for selling them, But the options bring more value to them.

They are not common, But not super rare either. I may know a few people that have some for sale. I can give you there contact information if you are looking for one. They are located in Ohio.

@@robwildfieldhoney Ya that is a setback. The one guy I know said he wont ship to Canada anymore. He said that customs thought a lot of parts could be used as weapons or something. More than likely the blades. He said it is to much trouble. I may know of one other guy who may ship. I can ask the other if he removes the blades from tbe deck if he could ship it.
