WOW! I'm just getting home from a long night on patrol. It was a nice quiet Christmas night on the streets until I stop a 350Z with the top down at 5am driving like an A-hole. Of course the driver was drunk as hell so instead of getting off at 5:30am Christmas morning I'm home at 8am. I check KZbin before getting some sleep before going back to work at 5:30pm and find a freshly uploaded RCR video! Merry Christmas to me!

Awesome, but I wish we got to hear it. Takes me back to Best Christmas Gift Ever. 1972, upstate New York covered deep in snow of Christmas morning. Under the tree was a tiny toy tractor. There was also a key with a plastic fob that read "Get a Job!" Just out the front door was a shiny red Wheel Horse lawn tractor, snow plow attached, chains attached to its large mud tires. I was overwhelmed. Many good times on that tractor, hauling friends around on flatbed trailer out into the woods, racing down hills, wheelies, and, yes, making a buck or two mowing and plowing. Good times.

Growing up we had a Sears garden tractor from probably the same era. You could attach all sorts of implements on it, and it had multiple power take-offs for different types of equipment. There was even a self-powered roto-tiller that could be raised and lowered from the back. It was quite neat. Oh and it had a 3 speed manual transmission with a high and low range!

when I was young, single digits, someone gave me one of these tractors. my dad got it running for me and I had countless years of enjoyment flying around the fields of my grand parents farm. it wasn't hydrostat, just belt driven to what looked like a home brew clutch. 1st and 2nd gears were slow, then shift into 3rd gear and it would take off 20mph.

Garden tractor pulling was a thing around here 20 years ago. We had a very active local club. We had a family business selling International Harvester products up until we saw the writing on the wall with IH in trouble and we sold out about 1982. Fast forward to about year 2000 and my brother joins this club. These real IH Cub Cadets ( Because no IH fan calls the MTDs real Cubs.) were so overbuilt that using them as a base to build a puller for stock and mod stock classes was the hot setup at that time. Bro cruised the want adds, bought several good donor machines and built a team of yellow horses so strong that after bringing home a dumpster full of trophies over about four years with this club, I think they finally just suggested he stay home. Now most good 1962 to 1980 Cubs left are too valuable to mod out for pulling, you see them being restored to dust catchers for collectors. At least that’s the trend I’m seeing. Nice video sirs!

I love those old International Cub Cadets. I restored a 1974 International Cub Cadet 129 a couple years ago. I got a lot of pictures from when I first got it, the first power wash cleaning it up videos of it being brought back to life and the tear down and disassembly, restoration and finished tractor. It still has the original 12 HP Kohler engine and muffler and I also added a big exhaust stack and installed a custom stainless steel mesh grille

We've got a '70 Cub Cadet with the 16hp Kohler. After a lot of goofing around with polishing and deburring plus some carb work, it goes about 18mph. The torque is insane - we use it for snow plowing, and even dragged a full-size Dodge pickup with a stuck rear end up the driveway with it mid-winter.

My close friend in High school had 2 of these that he used for his lawn service. His Dad used them in the 60s and 70s for his own lawn service in high school. They both had the kohler motors. They ran perfectly and cut perfectly. Everything on them was original other than like, the points... (Even the SPARK PLUGS were original, they were just cleaned and gapped once a season) They really don't make things like they used to and this is a prime example.

There are a few tractors with direct drive transmissions, I have a Bolens 1250 and it is on the large end of being a garden tractor. And it has a massive shaft drive hydro static transmission. I actually dropped a big 2 cylinder Wisconsin engine into it, and it makes this cub cadet look small.

Man, this reminds me of my ancient Snapper/Massey Ferguson 1650. 16hp single cylinder Kohler flathead, two-speed hydrostatic drive, hydraulic 3-point hitch, hydraulic mower deck, and electric PTO. After some work to make it run, that old Kohler would fire right up every time, and rattle your teeth out in the process.
@hobbyelectronics66307 жыл бұрын
Actually a 1650 Cadet will fit in the back of a Chev Uplander minivan with about no room to spare. Ramps and two big guys will allow you to push one in without too much trouble (forget about lifting it). A John Deere 318 uses the same Sunstrand hydraulic pump/motor. This class of garden tractor is very much alive today Kioti, Kuboto, Deere and others make an upscale machine for the low low price of 5k to 10k plus toys. The old Cub Cadet is a great low cost platform for a loader or similar project. On the other hand the light weight MTD lawn tractor is a great lawn mower but it isn't built to handle anything more. Cool project !
@Levy3o87 жыл бұрын
My grandpa has an old cub cadet similar to the ones Justin here has. I always thought he had gone through the whole damn tractor and replaced every part to keep it alive, but now I'm thinking it's possible he didn't actually need to. it's insane to hear they lasted so long right from the factory.
