Cub Cadet PTO Not Working Intermittent Issue On and Off

Excellent video. I watched six other videos this morning to diagnose why my PTO doesn't engage. You were the only one to identify the RELAY and point out what can go wrong with it. I inspected mine closely and found a corner of it was worn through allowing water to corrode the inside. THANK YOU for pointing me to inspect it thoroughly!

Mine a LTX1050VT had intermittent PTO engagement. The switch was definitely bad on the terminal with the blue power feed wire to the clutch. Put in the new switch and nothing? Well the blue feed wire had in the past gotten so hot that it melted it’s socket. When pushing in the switch to the receptacle the blue terminal was being pushed out and then had no contact. Manually pushed the terminal back in and onto the terminal spade on the switch and BINGO it now functions.

Excellent video I've been having a problem with a LT1046 cub cadet mower PTO disengaging every time i run full speed. the PTO will stay engaged only at mid speed. I've replaced the electric pto clutch , then the switch without solving the problem. thanks to your video I will now try replacing the relay. I only wish you would have included the replacement part number for the relay in your video.

Just cut one of the ground wires from the back of the pull button switch mine doesn't have a relay hooked up on the old cub Cadet 1042. But cubs trying to copy John deere by putting more of those on the mower when they don't need them

Did you determine a solution to this issue? I've got a 1527 that's doing the same thing. PTO cuts off at full speed on the transmission. It runs fine at half speed, reverse, or staying still. Charging system appears to be working fine, so I don't think it's a lack of current.

How do you know if the switch is bad vs the relay?

You can test the switch with Volt Meter.

Have the same model. PTO just shuts off. Engages just fine cold, hot, whatever. If I sit there the blades run fine. Go in reverse, fine. Go forward very slowly, fine. Go a little faster and the PTO shuts off but only after it's shut off once before (warmed up). I'll try the relay first I guess.

You may also have a weak battery or charging issue because it sounds like it's shutting off when you put more load on the engine. These will shut the pto off when you have a have low voltage on the circuit.

Any update on this issue? I've got at 1527 that is doing the same thing. PTO shuts off when moving at full speed. Works fine with the transmission going half speed or reverse. Charging system appears to be working fine, over 14v at full throttle.

Do I have to replace both the 10 amp switch and the 10 amp relay at the same time?

No you do not. Most of the time it's the relay that's bad but the pto switches are also known for going bad so I just replaced them both for a piece of mind. There is a way to check the switch with a multimeter. I may do a video on that as well.

I wouldn't neither of them i would install a switch that can take more current a metal toggle switch no pull and push junk cause its plastic and will just burn out again unless you hook up a inline fuse to that cheap pto switch

Thanks my relay was killing engine when engaging pto when cold 🥶 😂😂 but runs good when engine gets hot 🔥 is wire but replace relay fix problems customers satisfied 😅

I had a similar problem but it wasn't any of that, if you are jumping it's battery because it doesn't have enough voltage to start you can start your mower but remember it's an electric pto, if there's not enough juice in your battery it will not engage. I jumped my mower, while it was connected to the other battery pto would engage as soon as I disconnected the good battery, pto would stop. I thought that might help somebody out.

Yes that is correct if the battery is low PTO will shut off or not come on at all. Check and test battery first and here is the important part... DO NOT JUMP IT AND RELY ON THE MOWER TO RECHARGE IT WHILE RUNNING. TAKE BATTERY OFF AND CHARGE IT OR REPLACE IT. The charging system on the mower is not enough to run your mower, power your PTO and recharge a dead or weak battery.
