My good friend Alex, W7HU has uncovered that Cuba is jamming ham radio frequencies to stop communication in and out of Cuba. If you're unaware, Cuba is experiencing an uprising as people struggle under poor economic and health conditions.
We need ham radio operators to report jamming on the amateur radio bands when they hear it. Click the link below to do your part.
Report suspected jamming here: www.youtube.co...

Thanks for posting this important information. I experienced jamming in Europe in the US Army Signal Corps during the Cold War. Primary source was East Germany and Czechoslovakia as they were on the West German border. The Soviets routinely jammed HF broadcast transmitters as well, most notably the VOA (Voice of America). You could recognize their jammers immediately from the sound they made (e.g. the notorious woodpecker, which was only one of several types). At best there diplomatic complaints and protests can be made but they will fall on deaf ears.

Listneing to some KiwiSDR receivers in the southeastern USA, it sounds like Cuba is also jamming the frequencies used by pirate broadcasters in the 6.8 to 7 megahertz band as well. The 6.8 to 7.0 is popular with shortwave pirates because it is not very high on the FCC priority list, so pirate shortwave broadcasters are often there. And Cuba appears to be jamming the most commonly used frequencies in that band. They use very little power, and get out a long way on just a few watts. Cuba could be jamming that, and the lower part of the 40 meter hand band to make sure that any pirates that broadcast to Cuba cannot be heard, since shortwaves pirates in the band do sometimes go as high as 7.2 Mhz. That fact that they do apppear to be jamming the band between 6.8 and 7 where pirates are could mean they want to make sure nothing comes in from the outside

With my Knight-kit Star Roamer I remember back in the 60's hearing broadcasts to the US of USS Pueblo sailors being forced to say the US was spying on North Korea. I remember getting my parents attention to come into my room to hear the broadcast from Radio Havana on my shortwave receiver. At the time media news networks were not reporting the forced broadcasts from Cuba so it was a shock for both my mom and dad to hear it happening live.

Jamming is an act of war. It's illegal to use it outside of military frequencies for purposes of warfare. You can hear it in the Pacific Northwest where I live. If they jammed our military frequencies we could legally destroy the jammers with kinetic weapons. Technically we could destroy them now, but there's no appetite for that. I'm a retired Air Force Electronic Warfare Officer. ARRL should petition the government to do something to stop it. They aren't just jamming themselves, they're jamming us. We should have QSOs near their jamming and say "Viva Cuba Libre" at the end.

This video and similar ones prove that the idea so many have that ham should not be used for politics is debatable at least. From the beginning of time, political views have been communicated by whatever means were available. Here we see ham radio free-quencies being used to stifle communication for political reasons. If 40M can be used to stifle political views, it should be used to proliferate political views.

When your family is in Cuba, as is my case, and they've cut off phone and internet to their people and the only way to communicate with them is amateur radio, then all lack of political talk on the airwaves goes out of the window. Great video by the way, thank for you posting and your awesome support!

Quote: The U.S. jamming, which U.S. officials rarely talked about, was often the subject of Cuban protests at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Geneva-based United Nations affiliate that regulates satellite orbital slots and wireless broadcast frequencies. But the ITU remains what it has always been: an organization with little power to act against nations that violate international treaties on the free flow of information, even when those nations are small. Given that it was confronting a large power like the United States, Cuba’s protests were like water thrown on sand. But the U.S. jamming did remove a potentially powerful voice from the anti-jam coalition and made it more difficult to “name and shame” - the phrase that describes the outer limit of ITU power - nations that block broadcasts from the BBC, Voice of America, Al Jazeera and others for political reasons. “When the U.S. used to defend itself in international forums, saying that it was responding to a higher power in continuing the interference with Cuban broadcasts, it was a bit embarrassing,” said one government official. “Believe me, Iran and others have used this regularly to stop any attempts to get tougher regulations against jamming.”

@@swlmiami6605 Nice trolling. Here's the deal - beta level TDoA from KiwiSDR is not as accurate as proper lines of bearing. How do I know? Because aside from ham fox hunts, I used actual direction finding for a couple of decades. A triangle half a KM on a side is a hell of a lot better ammunition with the ITU than is a red blob in the ocean south of Cuba. As for what you call 'cynicism' - it's clear to me that you don't understand. Let me help. Nobody ranting in a youtube comment section is going to get the jamming stopped. Nobody making KZbin videos that show lines on a waterfall is going to get the jamming stopped. In order to push back on the Cuban government for their interference on ham bands as well as maritime and other bits of spectrum, we need HARD DATA with locations, times, dates, frequencies, and we need to communicate these data to the ITU, the ARRL, and quite probably the US State Department. I know how to work some of this stuff, that's why I was asking the questions I did and why I was looking for someone that actually had a clue about what's going on. People like you that do nothing but attack others are doing absolutely NOTHING to help the Cuban people get their comms back. Everytime W7HU and others from Miami said they would QSY and change frequencies, CO2BV would inform authorities and they'd follow these guys around and jam on any frequency they would attempt to use to talk to the people of Cuba.They have verbally said in Spanish through CO2BV that they would commercially jam Miami ham radio operators. And they are using the same jammers they have been using for Radio Marti on the shortwave bands for decades. Same exact sound. Do research, go on Facebook, and then comment. But believe what you will Hans. They've already been triangulated.

At a frequency of 7055 KHz, such groups of Ukrainian radio amateurs without callsigns gather in our country and swear at Russia. This has been going on since 2000. Other frequencies are free from bullies. It is impossible to jam all frequencies. Radio Cuba is broadcasting on VHF. Radio Havana Cuba broadcasts in the HF band on a single frequency. I receive signals from Florida, and Puerto Rico into Maryland, but I have yet to hear any Cuban stations. It doesn't bother me as I speak very little Spanish. I expect after the Cuban and American governments normalize their relations, the jamming of 40 meter band frequencies will end.

When Obama improved relations the jamming Cuba has always done slowed down. I’m sure that’ll change now.

@@flyincoyote3810 :) ... We should be grateful for Fidel - there are probably more Cuban Americans living in the USA than Cuban citizens living in Cuba. My sister-in-law has a relative who is from Cuba. He said he only has one aunt and one cousin left living on the island. Over the years, there has been a mass migration of Cubans - it isn't difficult to reason why.

Jamming doesn’t mean they’re blacking out the entire band. They’re jamming a specific portion of 40M, and some other HF frequencies outside amateur radio.
@BlueRidgeCritter
@BlueRidgeCritter 3 жыл бұрын
I don't mean this disrespectfully in any way, but I don't know what you expect to improve or do about the situation, or what even cataloging all this is going to do. The Russians have been doing this for years, and do it all the time, And nobody ever did anything about it, or could. And I would bet the US government is just jonesing for the opportunity to do this here. Countries have been doing this since the beginning of amateur radio. So, without sounding blasé, all I can think is "shrug?" Nothing is going to happen in Cuba short of us going down there and literally just taking it over, which might be the best thing we can do. The commies have been a thorn in our side for way too long, to be only 90 miles from us. Now, if we could develop some filtering system that could somehow slip in between the wave length, then you would be onto something.
