That saddens me so much because I remember the Havana from 2000 to 2015 when the streets were full of people, singing, dancing, visiting the neighbors , gossiping, playing dominoes and chess....just a really amazing night life. I fell in love with the place. There was so much joy in spite of the hardships. That joy of life seems to have disappeared from the streets altogether. I know the streets you were in well but I hardly recognize them anymore. Cuba changed me forever. I will miss the old Havana.

Hello, I realized your video is a reality to me. I went to Havana, Cuba in 2018. I visited there for only 5 days. I saw some shortage of food and merchandise in the Mall next to the Meile Hotel around the Malecon. The Government of Cuba mismanaged the economy without the assistance of the Government of Russia and caused rapid inflation an early couple of months ago after the Ukraine and Russia War began for 2 years. That is really sad to see the People of Cuba struggle to survive there.

When I think of Cuba, I think of the story of Hachuey (the Taino Chief) who came to Cuba in the 15th Century to seek assistance in fighting off the Spanish in present-day Dominican Republic. The war was lost, with Hatchuey being burned at the stake (with the approval of the Catholic Church (Priest Las Casas).

it would help if people on the planet stop supporting every kind of left wing/socialist parties/movements (which are btw. also with Islam the most antizionist/antisemit and REAL racist (thats everyone without exception who uses the sorting 'race' if there is no race context). Cuba has many countries which it could trade with but they fail, because most - even ideological allies or kind of former allies - dont like to trade with them, because its basically just subsidizing them. people who believe that its due to US sanctions just fall for typical bullshit propaganda. what Cuba needs is stopping the left wing dictator ship and free market. its really no rocket science. and as long this is not the case i understand everyone from Cuba who tries to get out of the country. btw, its typical for socialist dictator ships (north korea was btw. another socialist project - and that left wings try to deny that is also irrelevant. they always try to sell later it wasnt true left wing and bla bla. it was. the only reason why western democracies are no dictator ships is because more NON-left wings exist. many are not aware about that (idiots)). and btw, also guilty are old people in cuba who supported antiwestern/antiliberal antisemitic/antizionist left wing Nazis like Castro. if all people on the planet only address the ones who are responsible for problems (instead of permanently fall for propaganda which tries to redirect the focus, the planet was a by far better place)

Hiya there Mr Keenan! I really appreciate your love for Cuba. Let me tell you brother, we don't need charity, we need FREEDOM. We need that totalitarian Communist regime GONE for good. Thank you for respecting the dignity of my sisters on the streets, especially the pregnant girl. The desperation sometimes leads you to fight for survival. Life can be so cruel. Freedom for Cuba. We stayed in a Casa which was right on the Malicon and we loved it. We went to a cigar factory in Havana and toured certain areas there. We went to Varadero beach for the day and chilled. That was about a 2 hour drive in an old school car. We also stopped at the highest bridge in Cuba and took pics. We went to Vinales and explored a cave and then to a cigar farm. We did horse back riding there and bought 50 Cohiba cigars. I should’ve bought more because I came up. We went to a community center in Havana and experienced what they do for the kids. All in all we were just around the Cuban people and just learning them. Next time we go we will limit the tourist stuff and just spend more time with the people and roaming the streets. I also want to go to Trinidad in Cuba. But I never felt so safe than when I was in Cuba.
@lawler-ex-sfodd10 ай бұрын
@@donnellwillcot "But I never felt so safe than when I was in Cuba." You only went to tourist places. You are safe in those places. Now, when you walk around the streets of Cuba, especially in Centro Habana and Habana Vieja, I suggest you keep your eyes open and have some situational awareness. Cuba is not the paradise that you see in these videos. What this guy did, walking around in the dark on the inner streets surrounding Prado is beyond kray-C. You can get lucky so many times. Remember this; in Cuba the hills literally have eyes. There is always a "delinquent" watching you, waiting for the right opportunity to jump you and take everything you've got, including your life if necessary. Lawler

Bro.K. Top marks for this one. Honest, straight forward. You have big cojones to walk down San Rafael after hours. The Prado or Paseo Marti is usually quiet. I have seen the police many times keeping it clean, picking up pieces her and there. You really weren't on your game at 20:47. Ella estaba perfecto.. "Hola. Como estais? ETECSA funciona bien? Recargar es caro, si?" y mas. As to the tostones stand at 23:10 , hustling supplies, cooking, etc, for what?, a few pesos that are or becoming wallpaper. You know about Radio Bamba (the grapevine). Easy for the pregnant one to find you. It is a wonder your old flame didn't. Top marks on this one. Hopefully you will have part 2, the Malecon at night. Cheers from Canada

Man this rips your heart out seeing the Cuban people like that. My wife’s family escaped from Cuba to Acapulco, Mexico over 60 years ago. The accent of the older family members is very similar to the way the people in your video speak. Interesting side note, they is a very large, rather unknown contingent of Afro Mexicans in the Acapulco area of Mexico. The majority of them are not of Cuban descent like my wife and are said to be descended from a marooned slave ship. I also had a co-worker who’s parents were Cuban and he said he went there as a teen when the embargo was lifted. He said the girls were literally throwing themselves at him and the stores had nothing to sell. I hope things get better. Stay safe

I have visited Cuba twice, once in 2000 and again in 2015. The first trip was from Cancun, and the second followed President Obama's restoration of US relations with Cuba. I absolutely loved the people! They were incredibly kind, despite their difficult circumstances. It's true that they look to you for money, and some may offer themselves for it, but my experiences were wonderful, and I'm eager to return. I know that area well. Its close to Central Park where all the old cars you can rent or get rides. I used the bus that takes you all over the city (off/on bus).

@@KeenanLambert198 I have learned more about life and also about myself in the last three years than in the previous two decades. Above all, I learned to appreciate the little things in life much more, and at the same time realized that western luxury and weariness made me more unhappy than happy. Especially when you know how other people feel and offer their bodies for a handful of dollars just to survive. And yet there is so much love and kindness in these people. I have already gotten rid of many material things, sold them or given them away. For over a year now, in addition to full-time work and training, I have been attending a community college to learn Spanish. It is not easy and demands a lot from me, but I am determined and follow my heart to come into contact with the people in Latin America myself.
