Who are we?
Born To Produce was founded by professional music producers Jay Hales & Jon Merritt with the aim of providing super usable and informative tutorial videos, that they never had access to when they were climbing the music production ropes. Having come over to Cubase from Sonar (not by choice), I've found it very aggravating trying to figure out how Cubase does things. You get used to a certain workflow and then you have to start from scratch with something new and it's a headache. These tutorials are a HUGE help!!

Thank you for your tutorial series. I was a heavy user of Cubase VST up to around v4 on winXP but after a long break I’m back with a Mac and everything looks different. Some things have changed for the better, computers handle basic MIDI and a few audio tracks with ease it seems to me when they were crashing and freezing af 10 years ago. When I started with an Akai outboard sampler everything was proprietary format and SCSI. It was a revelation when soft samplers appeared and samplers discovered USB. Ah good frustrating hair wrenching out times. So the band is getting back together and this time it’s 75% outboard, it was 95% but then I re experienced how time consuming loading samples into an MPC2kXL is and flashbacked to the trauma of clicking Zip drives AND I started seeing your tutorials. Yeah, a combination of mainly outboard with the DAW as a tool to help. The workflow sitting on front of a screen for I can do this!

Why do you have to turn off the monitor button to play back? I'm just curious.(Yes, I can understand unwanted noise coming from a microphone/instrument).

We don't have any inside knoweledge on why Steinberg makes the choices it does, but the reason I beleive is, it prevents the audio that has been recorded from playing back while you are still recording. As a big portion or recording is done on a looped section (the verse for example) and multiple takes are recorded of that section, it makes sense to have the audio that you just recorded muted, otherwise you'd have to stop the recording each time after you had done each verse take. Perhaps there are other reasons as well, but that's my best guess.

Hi.why do you have the mixer at zero when recording the guitar, when you said in the first part of the course that it is good to set it to -10db?

I am having an issue with my mono inputs. Each audio level is the same constantly and therefore records the same thing. If I record guitar (mono input 1) first that is fine, but when I record vocals (mono input 2), it has guitar in the background. I don't even have the microphones plugged in, one line is always empty, and yet it still records the other. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

Why you didn't use the guitar cable instead of an external microphone? Is there any benefit on that?

We wanted to show how to use a mic as a lot of people have acoustic guitars. You can use the lead on an electro/acoustic guitar but it will sound a little different. It depends what you want.

Just got cubase ai 13, watched this video recorded an acoustic guitar, no mike, plugged in, recorded track, I can see it but I can't hear it in playback, help !! Thanks, Paul

Hi, could use some help, is the Cubase 12 you are using the full version, as it is quite a bit different than the one i downloaded. The Media section on the far right well the Loop/Samples is empty, i have the Groove Agent 5 as i downloaded it myself, but after about one minute it tells me to go to the Activation Manager and just stops working. Is there a free Cubase or do i have to pay hundreds of pounds to purchase the software, i am new to this but to be honest i am having second thoughts about this digital software recording. I run a Boss ME-80 Guitar Multiple Effects Interface Board through my Desk Top PC Through a pair of Ammoon speaker's coupled to a very small Music Digitizer Recorder, that i use to play my Elec Fender and my Yamaha Compass Acoustic elec guitar through. Well i fancied a change and after searching KZbin, for help in this matter and with all due respect some of the people out there explaining how you do this and do that, leave a lot to be desired, i just hooked onto you, mind you you skip a few items, i am a complete beginner in this Software recording and some times you are rather fast with the hand movements and at 76yrs younger have a hell of a time keeping up, never mind ( is there a free Cubase LE 12 ) OR IS THE ONE I AM USING HAVE A GLITCH IN IT.???????? Yours JR.

Hi John, I did respond to your email, so perhaps it landed in your junk folder? As I said, Groove Agent SE is included even in the version you have though you might have to download it separately. To do this you need to download the Steinberg Download Assistant, look under the heading 'Cubase' on the left hand side. Find your version of it, click it and on the right hand side you will see all the additional content (sample packs and instruments), download all these :)

The information is good, but there is too much time spent on "Here's a good feature,, but let's forget about it". Some steps are not carefully explained and I have to keep backing up and watching the same thing again and again to get what's being described. Sadly, your instructions are better than some of the other videos I've watched.

Hello everybody. I wonder if someone else has used to have problem to get your VST files in cubase 12 and have found a solution to fix it. I think Steienberg do not like so much about third party things, It was just my thought. Hope that nobody did not get pissed off. Than you very plenty that i have found a nice society who loves ro help each other.

Anybody else feel like Ableton is way easier to use? I can’t even get a track to arm lol. Studying this course. I have a session I have to engineer in 2 days and the studio is running Cubase so I have to learn it. Finally got it torrented
