could you possibly do one of how to have a track to pick up the audio of another track(if that is possible in cubase 11)🙂🙃😉
@musictechtuition Жыл бұрын
Without either audio interface routing, or third party solutions, it's not something that's available in Cubase... what use case were you thinking of (so I can take a more focused look)?
@bongworth Жыл бұрын
@@musictechtuition I think the FX modulator can pick up audio. You can use it as an envelope follower. If I am not mistaken....

@@musictechtuition Hey man thanks for the reply. Ye, a while ago I was messing about on a sound generator synth and couldn't seem to record it in the normal way. Also, I recently got paulstretch which is similar with regards to recording. would just be much easier to create another track and record the audio from the instrument track. I do have a focus rite clarets 8 pre so could possibly do the audio interface routing with that as it has enough ins and outs. its a pain cos that is down the studio. I don't think I could do it with the line 6 ux2 I have at home. Thinking about getting another audio interface with a few more ins and outs for home anyway as I watched another video of yours about using external effects and would like to mangle some stuff through my kaoss pad. Great channel anyway man! Watching your stuff is very helpful.

@@bongworth Yes - many FX can get audio from other tracks - that's sidechain input. But there's not a direct way to get audio from one track to another track as an input source. You could find a plugin which allows you to output the audio from the sidechain that could then be audible, and put that as insert 1 on a track, but it'd be pretty clunky (and off the top of my head I can't think of a plugin that allows you to just pass the audio from the SC input to the output (other than a sidechain listen button on some compressors, but that is another level of clunkiness on top!). It's one area where Cubase is pretty inflexible (but does so to stop you from getting in nasty feedback loops which would be pretty easy to do otherwise with predictable results). I'm doing some looking, and there are some routing plugins which promise a solution but they are either complex and expensive... or old and 32-bit and no longer working. I'll see if I can find something that will do the job though, as it must be possible.

@@theredrooms2079 While it's not the same thing as recording, but you can always use 'render in place' to get the audio of what you're doing. But it's not recording in the normal way, alas. I dont' have the side chaining button on Soothe 2. its driving me nuts! Running full version of Cubase 11 - surely its available?!

@@Jennyshalfmusic It's definitely time for a tea break! Often they install plugins in multiple formats, and I guess you found the one that didn't have sidechain!

Trying to work out how to use a muted kick as a sidechain channel for multiple tracks. Cubase 12 pro user. Can anyone help please?
@musictechtuition Жыл бұрын
I just end up using all the sends from a single channel to multiple compressors's sidechains. If I need more, I will either duplicate the original kick track, or sometimes send it to a group where I can apply another 8 sends. Definitely an area where Cubase needs to up its game - 16 sends at least!
@Ryan.Anderson80 Жыл бұрын
@@musictechtuition I am happy to duplicate the kick, shorten it then apply to individual compressors or a group compressor. How do I get the duplicated kick to act as a mute sidechain trigger? I appreciate you responding.

Man, I'm having real trouble getting the fundamental idea of pre/post fader, apart from knowing that one of them lets me hear FX without the input signal. Is there any particular reason why I shouldn't just always have it set up that way? Would be also cool if the toggle button actually told me which mode I'm in
@musictechtuition Жыл бұрын
One way to imagine this is that pre-fader is completely independent of the fader level. It doesn't matter what the fader is set to, if you turn the control up, you will get a signal. Post-fader is dependent on the fader level. If the fader *or* the send are turned down, you'll get nothing. Only when both are up will you get a signal. It's not uncommon to find this confusing, so I'll maybe do a short video on it with a graphic that will help with understanding it. 👍

pre-fader when sidechaining because you have to set the threshold. if it's -30db but you set the fader of the source lower, the sidechaining wont work (for the sound is much lower than the threshold now, which is still -30db)
