Its a bit more complicated than that. Its like, this type of thing inevitably happens anywhere in the world with the police vs citizen duality. Doing the job of a cop sends certain people off the rails, and if every cop knew they had no qualified immunity or protections for doing their horrible, thankless, dangerous, life threatening job that 100% gives you permanent trauma and affects how you look at the population and the world around you, quite literally nobody would step up to the job. To compare it to other jobs, its like why would you ever sign up to be a firefighter if you could have your pension taken away if you let someone die in a fire or dont do the right thing and someone gets hurt? Nobody wants that. Some protection has to be in place. Cops dont get rich, theyre not paid that much and you really cant attract much better than we have now, were all just imperfect humans. If we would somehow tap some imaginary talent pool of better quality cops we would, but we dont have that, so we have to protect the sometimes horrible people that step up to do the job nobody else will. Policing is a dirty game from the beginning. No doubt, and it sucks paying for peoples mistakes, but just imagine a world where we dont and then nobody wants to be a cop and then the talent pool dwindles even further than it already has down to some hopeless people with nothing to lose out with guns and badges LMAO no thanks. It really depends on whether it was an illegal detainment. If someone lies to the police and you are detained for assault, stalking, or something along those lines you will get nothing. They won't let you sue the police, the victim that lied or the county you sat in... My brother was charged with stalking, then about a month later aggravated stalking. He sat for 9 months in county jail. His attorney got his wife's phone records. They showed her and the man she left him for set up the whole thing to get custody of the children. They sent text back and forth about how to get him out of the picture.. He lost everything, including his kids because they would not change the custody order. They felt it would hurt the children more. He could not sue anyone. The officer did not have any evidence. All she had to do was say she was scared of him and he kept driving by and they arrested him for stalking. Job, car, house, savings, and kids. Fast forward several years and I recounted my story to a couple of young kids and how the actions of the cop resulted in having to come to my home and apologise. Not long after the kid was stopped in a road block and asked how much he had to drink. Think he said 4 or 5 so instant sobriety test, which he past then a breathalyser which came out 0.00. Finally the cop asked what he had been drinking. "Water"! Might have been several years later but the cops still have no sense of humour. Yeah all they did was detain him for a bit. Albeit a bit forcefully but they did not physically injure him as far as I can tell from the video. His health condition is not the police’s fault and honestly I’d say the use of force was even somewhat warranted due to there being two different ‘witnesses’ accusing the guy. This is one hundred percent on the lady and her family and the hotel since they employ her. The guy is smart tho, city can pay way bigger lawsuit than a hotel that’s probably some limited liability corp business that can simply go bankrupt at a tiny fraction of what the city/state can afford to pay.

in the 1980's i got a letter in my mail from a broward county police department. It said i had to report to a local police station - did not say what for. I walked into a local police station not far away and showed the guy at the counter my 'letter' . He said ''you're going to jail'' , and they took me to the jail where several other guys were also in there. we all sat there for a while, at some point they brought us some food, i did not eat. I developed a headache and layed down on the bench, did not want to but fell asleep, then was woken up and allowed to leave after 3 or 4 hours in there. Never once was i told why i was jailed and i did ask. I was in my 20's and was just glad to get back home. lemme tell ya, the things that went on before cameras were everywhere , before internet , before cell phones etc = cops likely got away with lots more.

Considering that is such a large county, they may have never told you because they KNEW they had put the wrong person in. We live in a tiny town, and most everyone knows everyone here, but somehow back in the day there was another guy here in town that had the exact same name as my Dad did. Most of the cops on the force knew the difference in who was the troublemaker out of the 2. But there was apparently an incident that happened with the troublemaker and a cop showed up to my Dad's address and arrested him for what the other guy did. They let my Dad go as soon as that cop brought him in... all the others knew he'd grabbed the wrong one. My Dad laughed it off and told all of them that he'd tried to tell him.

Once I was pulled over for no reason while pulling into my own driveway. They ultimately started searching me and my car, but found nothing. They started asking how a young kid could own an expensive car and said I looked suspicious. The second time, I was riding my bicycle home from donating blood. They unnecessarily began searching me and my backpack, but found nothing. They asked why I was shaky and breathing hard. Let’s not forget that they saw me riding a bicycle up a hill and I already had told them that I just recently donated blood. It’s disgusting, because if you continue to prove that you’re not doing anything wrong, their investigation just gets worse.

When I was 18, a cop punched me in the face twice, well the other cop already had me detained with my hands behind my back for suspicion of drinking. They put me in the car, well the cop who punched me kept yelling at me for not cooperating & drinking in public. I asked, "Where are you taking me. He tuned around from the driver's seat & Pointed his finger right in my face & told me to shut up punk. I asked again, "Where are you taking me. He said I'm taking you in. I asked for what. He said, drinking. I told him you didn't see me drinking. We went back and forth at it until the other cop said quietly to the bad cop. Maybe we should just take him home. So they took me home & talked to my mom, making me look like I did something wrong. Not mentioning I got punched in the face twice. The next day, I told my mother what happened, that the cop punched me, and then she realized I was done wrong.This was back in 1985-86. I didn't really think about pressing charges back then. As I started getting older, I would think about it, and I wish i would have pressed charges. If I did, I would have been rich. 😂

These video make me wonder if I would have won a lawsuit against the cops when I was 12yrs old. I was riding my huffy bike with my 17 yr old brother and friends in county of Philly that was a predominantly white back then. I remember a bike cop riding next to me for a few seconds then speed off. I was in front of everyone else so it was a little strange how he rode next me. A few minutes later 2 plain clothes cops hopped out an unmarked car and tackled me off my bike. I grab pole I was near because I thought I was being kidnapped. I wouldn’t let go until I seen cop cars pulling up. They put me cuff and took me and my bike to a person house that reported their bike was stolen earlier. The report was a blue bike with one black wheel and one white wheel was stolen that’s it. After the kid told the cops that’s the wrong bike they drove me back to my brother and friends. It was a restaurant across the street and witnesses said the cops handled that wrong. My parents went to the police station and cursed the cops out they apologized but nothing else was done. Back then ppl prolly wasn’t filing lawsuits against cops like now. I’m 42 now.

High beams are for dark, unlit roadways where the need to see further is critical because of a) blind/unexpected curves, b) animals/pedestrians crossing, c) Any number of various other potential roadway obstructions. They're typically not allowed/frowned upon on city/suburban streets where traffic is typically heavier because they can blind other drivers and aren't needed because of the god awful amount of street lights.

I've had a similar incident. The time I went to get a pack of cigarettes at 2am since I'm a night owl but was stone cold sober. Cop pulled me over because my "license plate lights were too dim". He accused me of being high, searched my car, and searched the side of the road because according to him he "saw" me throw weed out my window. After nearly an hour of being handcuffed and him not finding anything and accusing me nonstop, he begrudgingly let me go. This was in the 2000's and before widespread use of body cams.

My daughter was followed till she pulled in and parked at a convenient store. I got pulled in college at 2am driving back from Walmart with my buddy who had been drinking. I was totally sober. Cop sped down a residential road to catch up to me, followed me into the college and pulled me for "making a wide turn". Then said I was driving in the middle of the road even though it was a narrow road with cars on both sides and people walking about. After he found out I hadn't been drinking he still gave me a ticket for reckless driving. Judge was totally corrupt also, didn't care that the cop broke the law to catch up to me. In the end he reduced the charge to improper driving because I couldn't prove I hadn't driven in the middle of the road. But here is the kicker. When I went to driving school so I didn't lose points, in the f-ing video they literally tell you to drive offset of the cars to prevent pedestrians from walking out in front of you.

That's a state by state thing, you're gonna want to look up your local state laws to know for sure. Some states have blatantly outlawed resisting unlawful arrests
