And Yes I was delighted. Started painting in 2003, and stopped abruptly in 20011 when my Brother died of cancer. Haven't touched a brush since then. Because I have been ill myself I've had time to look about the KZbin and alighted on you painting this "Cubist" painting, and you know what, I can't wait to get better and start painting this picture and many more. I started painting in water colours, and then went to oils and accrylic and did a series of large Ceazan paintings which I enjoyed. But this second chance I think I would like to go on to "Cubist" painting based on nothing else than seeing you paint this great picture DV. THANKYOU ONCE AGAIN !

CLIVE5ART oh Clive...you preached and right after you did exactly what you didn't want to do...lol...good example on how it just comes naturally...and you caught it...right away...nice choice of composition to have fun with...I think this would be nice to play the compliments against each other using contrast with light and darks of...like ...light blue and dark orange and so on...light orange against darker blue...this could be done in red and green...yellow and violet...nice! Enjoyed your commentary along the process as well...Joy

Great tip with the pale blue background and the darkening. I have been trying to work out how to paint in acrylic from blank canvas and spent 2 months with tutors who have not shown or demonstrated or even touched on any of these techniques. So I have been painting using too many lines and brushes without really understanding about how and why I am mixing colours in acrylic. I am going to try this on my canvas with 4 portrait I have been painting in watercolour. I might even use my water based oils.

You can simply mix gloss medium with the paint to get the effect

Knowing your pint drying time that’s just experience also colours that work together you can learn to do it work with your paint and get to know what it can do hope that helps

I love this painting and the style. It is called “cubist”? I am trying to really be good at painting animals...cats, dogs, horses, mainly. Do you have any black horse paintings? I have a black horse and it is so hard to do highlight and shading on black. I see that, in this painting, you use different colors for shading and shading...I’d like to learn more about that also I am trying to do a “looser” style to a degree but I struggle with wanting to make everything more detailed and perfect. It looks like do the blocking in of colors is pretty important to do what I am striving to do. I am new at painting (as you can surely tell) and I am experimenting like crazy..as in “pouring”. I do want to really learn how to do the animals and the shading/blocking in of colors is something that I really want to work on too. I started doing a lot of drawing years ago and now I want color in my life. I lover your lessons and styles. Please continue to do tutorials on You Tube! They are invaluable!
