Okay so i know this sucks but it happens and it is rather confounding to watch the cuckoo chick go to such lengths to push out it's competition. Just the fact that they're born with these instincts to eject other birds and eggs from the nest is truly interesting. They use an awful lot of energy doing this and that other baby is almost twice the size of the cuckoo. No, i think it is literally twice its size

@@Nomadrockz Eagle is a different bird, not all the birds have the same brain and instinct. These baby birds need time to understand what is happening.

It's amazing to me how much stronger the smaller cuckoo is than the other bird which is obviously much more developed. The other bird doesn't even seem to have the strength or wherewithal to push itself back into the nest while the cuckoo has the energy and strength to push its nestmate all of the way out.

It's a cuckoo, those 2 are not related. Cuckoo mothers wait for nesting moms to leave their nest then the cuckoo lays her egg and leaves. The cuckoo baby will attempt to eliminate any eggs or babies in the nest.

it's instinctual. they will stop trying to expel nestlings after about 3 days (or so I read). their entire anatomy is designed to expel eggs and other birds. look closely at the physical traits of the cuckoo vs. the other bird. although the other bird is clearly larger and older, the cuckoo has more core strength (the bulk of the other bird is mostly in its belly for processing food). the cuckoo's back is designed to "cup" or "hold" eggs and chicks while its appendages are made for corralling and clasping onto the nest as it backs its competition out. honestly, most of the cuckoo videos I've seen, the cuckoo hatches first and the other birds never make it out of their eggs before being dumped out the nest.

It's preprogrammed behavior , all cuckoo birds do this. Nature is a crazy place! For instance many female spiders after mating will kill the male lay her eggs on his corpse and when they are born their first meal is already laid out for them😳
