I first heard this song live at a Yonder Mountain String Band show many years ago and instantly fell in love. After trying to track it down again post-show, I learned YMSB was covering John Hartford (who had penned his own lyrics to the melody in 1977), and it's actually a tune that's probably been around in varying and evolving form since the 1700s. 🤯 Hope this play-through helps you fall in love with the song as much as I did and that people are still calling it at jams around the world 300 more years from now! (Also, you can head on over to Patreon if you want additional direction, where I'll have a more in-depth video lesson with exercises to help you approach Cuckoo's Nest and flatpicking in general.)

Hey Toni Thanks for the story/description of your discovery here and for keeping this one alive n well, 2:18 it's really catchy. It could be in the soundtrack of an old western, where the scene is good times on the ranch. You made this one look easy and sound sweet❤ I'm happy I discovered your Channel and hope all is well with you!!

I've never heard this tune before , not really my style but it's wonderful to learn new styles . Toni's musicality puts her above every other guitarist that I've heard . Wider range than even the great James Burton

You make it look so effortless, I will make good use of the x 0.25 function of the KZbin player to try and learn it. Thanks for the tab. The more I learn this cover, the more I find your playstyle genius. It's really a fun song to learn with a lot of subtle variations.

It's never too late to pick up the guitar again. I started writing my first songs at the age of 16. I just wanted to find a good riff and a chorus that would propel my song. And when I did, the idea for the lyrics would immediately come to me. So I'd hurry to come up with lyrics so as not to lose the original emotion. It felt like it was falling from the sky. Thanks, Toni.

Back in the day, they described people who displayed this kind of talent as Virtuosos. Italian composers mostly. Or wunderkind in Germany.
@rpfs2691 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't want to suggest Toni is old. Admittedly, I don't know her birth year, but I'd be surprised to learn she's over 28. Nevertheless, the German phrase Wunderkind suggests she's under 18. Or more likely, under 12. And that is not possible.

No, this is rather simple to play. Not virtuous at all. Really good music from a talented musician if you like- but not virtuous.

Hi Toni. Massive thanks for taking the trouble to put the tab up for this lovely tune. I am now going through the tab and following you at half speed (!) to learn this and think my rudimentary bluegrass skills will be greatly improved in the process. Perhaps one day I'll be able to follow you at normal speed! I love your playing and particularly your versatility in so many styles. We're lucky to have you on YT.

I'am stuck ! Trying to get a fingerstyle arrangement for Here There and Everywhere the beatles. Would like to see how you would play it. It's sneaky tricky ... on the record they do a kind of boom chuck with a lead fill. But for a lone singer that's to thin. It really is a beautiful melody ... if you can grasp it !

I just signed up through your patreon site and was wondering if you could break down a seemingly simple but groovin' tune for me. Taj Mahal's Queen Bee. I've been able to get a handle on the chords but would love to see a breakdown of the embellishments he drops in. My favorite version is when he is rolling through the streets of New Orleans and the horse hoof drops seem to mirror the rhythm of the tune; it's on youtube Bloody Sunday Sessions.
