Here's a first acquaintance with the Elektron Analog Heat. The analog stereo sound processing device from Elektron. There's 8 different drive/ overdrive circuits to choose from, as well as an EQ and a multi purpose filter, and an envelope follower.
In this video I'm going through some basic functionality, and then running a lot of machines through it.
Pocket Operators, Novation Circuit, OP-1, Volca FM, Monomachine, Analog Rytm, Analog Four, Continuum FIngerboard. Just to give you an impression of the different sound characteristics.
Cheers
CUCKOO

Great demo Cuckoo, I feel like this is a misunderstood device a little. People saying it's expensive need to look at other boxes that do the same thing..... Analog saturation and filtering are expensive. The Heat justifies it's cost just even looking at the filter alone, there are so few devices that offer just a standalone stereo multi-mode filter... maybe just the akaiMFC42? and that is the same price as a heat used from years ago.

Awesome review! Preferred moments were octatrack and fingerboard.The bit with FB+AH was lit, you should become a master at this instrument. It's completely different from your cuckoo stuff, really ear enticing. I love how you forgot about A/B testing while performing on the octatrack. A cool combination would be FB --> OT --> AH :D And part2 with midi and Cv please.

1. Thanks for doing this! 2. I find it interesting that Elektron gear, while you can kinda always tell its Elektron, allows people to create a signature sound. For instance, in your demos I can always tell it's a cuckoo jam. And when dateline plays, I can tell it's him. And at same time I can tell it's Elektron, but you guys sound totally different from each other. Make any sense?

What do you mean when you say that it sounds warm or cold?
@truecuckoo
@truecuckoo 7 жыл бұрын
+Oq qq warm to me is like a nice and comfortably embracing bass and low end, that does not interfere or introduce mud in the mid frequencies. A lot of old synths are warm by nature, and has this as a natural part of their identity. Cold, I don't think I ever say about sound. I think I'd say less warm in this case. The lack of this "warmness".

Can you think of a way to with an octatrack use the this as like a side chaining device? Its a little frustrating that its only 2 in. I would love to use the trigs from one track to duck another
@truecuckoo
@truecuckoo 7 жыл бұрын
I misread you first, a little trigger happy. Yeah.. The Heat as side chain.. yeah.. hm. I haven't used the midi section at all yet. Let's read the MIDI implementation.. Hm. There doesn't seem to be a clear way to force-trigger the Envelope or LFO. I guess you could force it with some midi programming. Or if you're ok with mono sound, you could plug in a side chain source into the left input, and the main sound into the right input. I haven't really tried yet.

Hi CuckooIt seems this unit is causing a lot of controversy. Maybe because people thought that Elektron would bring out the next octatrack or something and not a processor. A lot of people don't seem to understand the unit so thanks for the upload. Had mine for a few days although not had time to really get to grips with it. However, its more than a distortion unit, it can be used as one, but it syncable LFO and envelope, filter and you could use it as saturation unit that costs twice as much so I think the price is about right.

Yes, I'm explaining what it is in the beginning. Some of my gear was stolen, among other things all of my SD cards for my pro camera. So this is filmed with the iPhone, and the Optical Stabilizer is unfortunately getting affected by the heavy bass frequencies. It's really disturbing, but I decided to go through with it anyways. It's the only camera I can shoot with for now. Turn off the screen and just listen. Or make the window smaller.

@waldemardaninsky25
@waldemardaninsky25 3 жыл бұрын
Actually I would say it's super practical for amateur producers. For example it can be your source of warmth, grit, saturation on a final stereo mix bus and even some compression type effect with the envelope follower and then also work as your sound interface. So instead of buying the Elysia Karacter, a stereo compressor and a seperate sound card you get it all in this cool box. And then of course you can mangle and create all kinds of crazy stuff just processing one sound source at a time when mixing in your DAW, or like me in the Octatrack. Cheap also if you really think about all the other gear you can replace. Sorry for a long answer on an old post...

Bogner LaGrange mono guitar distortion pedal is $249 (and worth every penny I might add). $299 for a device that has 8 different stereo, analog distortion paths, analog EQ, and analog filter with envelope follower and LFO is a joke.
@mumulove
@mumulove 7 жыл бұрын
May be true if we were talking about an effects company, an eventide or some such, but for a device from a company with no other effects units that does things most synths with onboard affects already do? Youre not far from getting a Moog Sub37 and running sound through that filter and effects.
@pirateradio808
@pirateradio808 7 жыл бұрын
Eventide, as far as I know, has exactly zero experience making analog effects. Elektron's pedigree for this product far exceeds Eventide, Strymon or any other high end digital effects company. The Moog 37 is double the price of the Analog Heat (how is that "not far" in terms of price?) and cannot do most of the things the Heat can do, so it's an irrelevant comparison.
@mumulove
@mumulove 7 жыл бұрын
I paid $1150 new from SW for the sub37. Fairly close in price. It was an exaggerated example and yes comparing apples to oranges, but I can piece wise every effect this thing can do sending audio through various devices. The filter on the moog, some reverb on the eventide, et cetera. This thing does nothing new and not much use in the sounds in this example. Shit any mixer can get most of these effects. But hey, if you like it that's awesome.
@pirateradio808
@pirateradio808 7 жыл бұрын
That's a fantastic price on a sub37. SW sells it today for $1499. It's not a fair comparison, though, to use that as a reference. With your negotiating skillz you probably could get the Analog Heat for $599. Do you have another device that can use the envelope follower to adjust the level of distortion? I'm sure it's possible with modular gear but that isn't a feature I have seen on a comparable device.
