I pick my cucumbers before the seeds form, and the skins get too thick, the crystal apple is a nice one which I didn't grow this season which I now regret. ♻️🥒🥒🥒Happy gardening, Terry King.

I just went to check and yes, I have a crystal lemon plant growing! Its the one from Clare @thefarmyardgarden. There are loads of fruits coming. I'm excited for them now!! Enjoyed your taste test. You looked very serious Robin!! 😂

LOL I'm pretty serious about tasting! Actually we had fun doing this.....I wanted to re-record after I cut our heads off...but I thought it would wreck that first reaction feel. 🥰

Gerald loves lemon cukes and the seeds are ok he says because they are soft 😂. We have rain today I couldn’t be happier to see it finally. Great taste testing 👍👍, have a super week, Ali ☔️🇨🇦

I wonder if it's the same as crystal apple.....I actually scooped the seeds out and pickled some last night for something different. I'm going to make Aji Mango jam/jelly. I've been watching a few videos.

Great review Robin 😊 wish I’d put atv least one cucumber in the greenhouse now, they haven’t done so well outdoors. Hard to get enough at once to actually pickle 🥒. Socrates I will try next year 😊👍🏼

Socrates has been prolific! It's muscling through powdery mildew and has minimal prickles to stab you when picking. I think it's best to eat at about 1" around, but is fine bigger. The skin is thinner so easy to eat and not waste those good nutrients. Don't think Socrates would pickle well. I did de-seed the Crystal Apple and tried pickling. Knock on wood, it's been a banner cuke year. I planted a succession of socrates because I had lost my cukes to the cuke beetle last year, and was hedging my bets.

You harvested a lot more than knowledge on these. ☺ Interesting to watch, although "my" seed company don't carry any of these. I mainly buy from an organic seed company that specializes in Scandinavian types, as many can't be grown outside here. They have one called Sikkim which they say is very tasty and also turns brown, but could be harvested younger. Could be interesting to try. Enjoy your cucumbers!

I've pickled some but I definately have enough so I'll be giving a bunch away. It's crazy that some seeds are not available worldwide. However, getting cucumbers that are known to grow in your climate is a good thing. I tend to go that direction as I don't want to waste too much space on a "maybe". 🥰

Hi Robin I grew Socrates last year and I thought they were tasteless compared to a small marketore 76. Id like to grow a crystal lemon one year. Nice tasting.😁👍👌❤️🙏

Honestly, it's hard to pick a clear winner...... Al said I picked Socrates, because the seed was the most expensive (like a dollar a piece) and I wanted to justify the purchase🤣😂😉 I know what you mean about tasting though...everyone raves about the Japanese Black Trifele Tomato and to date....it's the most flavorless tom I have ever grown. I pickled the crystal apple last night....I scooped out the seeds with a melon baller first. Something different to try.

I picked my lone Socrates. It was delicious- thin skinned and not-many tiny seeds. I was happy with it! So I hope it’s prolific now that’s producing. But it looked different more like a lunch box size than slicer like yours. Overall I haven’t had much luck the last 3 years with cucumbers, and spent them trying to grow open pollinated varieties but they consistently had way too many seeds and not much flesh.

Sure hope they kick into gear for you. I've been picking them smaller since I'm getting loads now and you can just munch without cutting them. It's a keeper for me. I've planted a succession too.🥰
